I've worked all my life and was a Single Parent of 4 children WITHOUT ever resorting to Food Stamps or Welfare!!! We always managed to live in good neighborhoods and we ate a lot of homecooked meals with hamburger. None of us ever went to bed hungry. IMO - Welfare is not worth all the aggravation, loss of humility, and being treated like a "bum" - all for a few dollars. Go out and work and make home cooked meals - you will survive without having to answer to anyone but yourself and your family.

i work but have a newborn. we cannot breastfeed and formula is very expensive. i cannot afford the extra expense since my wife is home with our bay and not working, so we use WIC to pay for the formula.
and we are not ashamed
given the 100 Billion $ plus this country has spent chasing some arab in iraq, i do not feel guilty if taxes pay for our formula.
just because you are superwoman and perfect, does not mean everyone is.

Well said...I commend the individual in the first posting, but people have nothing to be ahsamed of, because the government is basically giving you a small bit of the money you put into the system. Everyone needs a little help every once in a while and it is not shameful to ask for help. Sometimes you have to put your pride aside and just ask. We are fortunate to have somewhere to turn to on occasions of need. It is only fair, like is stated, the money spent killing people could be better well spent on those who need help at home. Granted there will always be ones that abuse the system, but that is an unfortunate fact of life in anything.

WIC is an excellent Federal Program that helps all babies get a good start on life. No baby should ever have to go without food. My daughter also used WIC for her children when they were babies. By the way - I'm far from being a "superwoman"! I was exhausted most of the time and each one of my children had chores to do to help keep our household together. All I was trying to say is Welfare should be used as a Bridge only if absolutely necessary; NOT a way of life!

Generally the child should not be punished because the parent either devotes themselves to it or is a deadbeat. The system is widely abused, that is without question. I believe there should be something for everyone, possibly healthcare. BTW, google Germany and something like pregnant woman and you will find how well that country treats ANY woman who has a child or is about to...

I agree with all above posts. but we have ONE baby. not 7 like most ghetto familes. they abuse the system. we need help with ONE and dont plan on having any more cuz they are simply too expensive. i agree there is abuse in the system, but most good people do need help

if people need welfare let them have it. There is no reason for people to go hungry...ever.

The problem with the current econimics is the working poor. Tons of people work and still can't pay bills, so most of what they have is loaned and the interest catches up with them. The problem with trickle down economics is that it never trickles down. CEO's cut jobs not create them, lower pay instead of raise it and take a bigger cut, but they're hurting their own consumer. So, the government giving the WORKING POOR help, really just puts money in the economy that will help everyone--even rich people. For example, if health care is more affordable, small buisness can compete with the benefit packages of Wal-Mart.

what makes me sick is the skanky little girls paying for their food with WIC and food stamps while they have fake nails, tons of gold jewelry, and an expensive cell phone in their hand...get a job and stop relying on government hand outs.

I agree. Sidebar: Observed at the Boilermaker After Party=-Black woman pushing a stroller with two other children holding on to her, moving from table to table filling bags with Vitamin Water and other free goodies and stuffing them under the stroller's seat...she was not a runner or a volunteer. Just an observation.

Whenever I used to grab the cookies at the supermarket which were intended for the little kids people would tell me that I was stealing. For fux sake! It was just a goddam cookie! Can't people lighten up. How much does one freakin' cookie cost?

I used to volunteer at Hope House through my church. I remember one of my church volunteer servers doling out a puny portion of food to a man who looked like he hadn't eaten in days. And, mind you, she was a large fat woman who looked like she finished off a package of Oreoes every night before she went to bed. The man asked if he could have some more food and the woman told him, "You can have seconds after everybody else has been served." The man's face sunk into a dismal frown and he stormed out the door leaving his tray at the counter.
This is what the fat cats of Utica are guilty of on a larger scale. Their slush funds are the reason why they have such big bellies and why the people lurching around Oneida Square look like zombie skeletons.

No one should be hungry, in this day and age. But no one should sell their food stamps for meth money, either.

Don't touch those Utica prostitutes. They carry all kinds of jungle diseases that haven't even been discovered yet. I got close to one once and a flee jumped off her and bit me. I was in the hospital for a week.

I worked all my life. Then I got sick was violently abused and lost my home all in one year. If it wasn't for the aid of the county I would have killed myself. I believe foodstamps are for those like me in need and can't provide for themselves or their children. I have a 14 yr old daughter. and almost no income fighting with ssi for over a yr. So everyone needs help once in a while.
