Civil War cannonball kills Virginia relic collector
“Sam knew his stuff, no doubt about it”
Like many boys in the South, Sam White got hooked on the Civil War early, digging up rusting bullets and military buttons in the battle-scarred earth of his hometown. via WSLS-TV Roanoke

143 years after Lee's surrender, should we consider Mr. White the LAST casualty of the Civil War? RIP

Hunting is still the safest Sport and the Redcoats had nothing to do with the Civil War. You are not very Intelligent. |

We agree the loss of life is sad, but if he's an ex-cop he should know not to mess with black or white powder.

Hey "Honch" you make everyone so proud in Hicksville with your complete knowledge of American History! Was it Napoleon or Joe DiMaggio that was defeated by Teddy Roosevelt at Pearl Harbor? |

Strangest story I've heard since the one about the model plane enthusiast who died after his plane struck him in the temple and killed him.

The Confederacy was non-UNION

Hunting AIN'T a sport ... it would be a sport if the animals could shoot back .... but they don't so it is not a sport |

[Bad Elmer Fudd impression] Be vewwy vewwy quiet. I'm hunting lawyers. Hahahahahaha! |
It was Napoleon beat Gengis Khan at bunker hill to win our independance. It was Mickey Mantle that beat Teddy R. at Pearl Harbor. Get it right. |
|
That's impossible - Teddy Roosevelt and Ghengis Khan were half brothers. Everyone knows that. It was George Washington and Abe Lincoln who turned back the Hottentots at San Juan Hill. They don't teach these kids nuthin anymore. Mickey Mantle was the guy who invented cotton gin during prohibition. |

"\Brenda White is convinced her husband was working on a flawed cannonball, and no amount of caution could have prevented his death.
"He had already disarmed the shell," she said. "From what I was told, there was absolutely nothing he had done wrong, that there was a manufacturing defect that no one would have known was there." UMMM>>LET ME GUESS?? YOU GONNA SUE!! I KNOW A GOOD LAWYER!! |

A lot of these posts are insensitive. A man with an avid interest in probably the most significant event in our past is gone in a terrible accident and you all mock and make jokes. The family grieves and you show no sympathy. You're all sorry excuses for compassionate human beings.

Wow! They really knew how to make ordnance in those days. Despite the tragic aspect of this story, some of those posts are pretty funny. At least the guy died doing what he loved.
|
Nonsense. Hunting is pefectly safe for Dick Chaney..........it's only his hunting partners who're at risk. |
|
No, no. It Thomas Jefferson that spurned the Hottentots and it was George Washington and Abe Lincoln that secure the peace with the Moors. Mickey Mantle and Joe Dimaggion invented the cotton gin. Come on guys keep up. |

|
Wow you can learn alot about history on here!
Mickey Mantle worked on fireplaces where one day he invented the fireplace Mantle..... lets keep the facts straight! |
