Anyone hear of Charlie Cline and the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers or Curly Ray Cline? Ray played the fiddle for the Stanley Brothers until he became ill and eventually died. Earlier there was Cousin Ezra and the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers. They were all brothers.

The Lonesome Pine Fiddlers were from Baisden, WV. The Cline brothers at times played with Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, and others. Melvin and Ray Goins played with them early on.

I have played some music over the years, and one of the best talants I have ever played with was Mr. Eddie Cales from Sandstone, WV...Summers Co.
He is probably one of the best Dobro men anywhere east of Ca. He has set in with such names as The Country Gentlemen.....He's known as The WV Dobro Man, get a chance, listen to him. |
|
I'll second Charlie's suggestion. Eddie has played with various local and regional talents, has opened for the likes of Alison Krauss and was good friends with "Uncle Josh" Graves, as well as Charlie Waller of the Country Gentlemen. Eddie also plays in the traditional style of bluegrass and exemplifies rural, roots music.
