Internet socializing raises red flag about teen

This becomes more of case with many teens, not just gay teens. Many disaffected youths are turning to the internets for "safe", or so they think, interactions without many of the perceived dangers of honest interactions in person with peers at school. This can become harmful if not kept in check. The in-person socialization is crucial to a teens development. Sure it is fraught with pitfalls and potentially "devastating " faux pas(sp?) at every turn. Learning how to successfully navigate this social network is an important of every youth's growth. Obviously, to be disassociated or outcast from the young social world can be difficult. Most malcontents can find a small fringe group of misfits to hang with. They have their social group; let the socialization begin. It isn't always that easy for gay kids. There aren't always a lot of, if any, other gay kids to befriend. These kids often feel that they do not fit in anywhere and become isolated. In come the internets! [round of applause] Here, kids can be honest and anonymous. They can find other gay youth and discuss that which they can not talk about with the peers at school. Sounds okay so far, right? The problem is that they often begin pulling away from the few friends they do have and spend more time with their online friends for their "understandin g". Next thing you know, the kid is never even leaving the house anymore except to go to school, and even then he's barely there. The internets are fine, a great resource, but not a substitute for a youth's friends in real life. This is why GSAs and the like are so important. They give kids an in-person outlet, a doorway to a group they can "belong" to and get all the proper socialization they need.  (Monday Dec 28 | post #2)

Sure, they exist. There aren't a lot of them, but they are out there. In the absence of religion, people resort to logic and real thinking most of the time. In the context of equal marriage, such thinking leads to, well, equality - most of the time. Sure there are a few non-christian d-bag bigots who still discriminate. However, they still feed off of the propaganda that is being spread by the Christian/Islamic/ Jewish (Christlamijew?) fundies. 80% (at least) of the world's problems can be led, in one way or the other, back to religion as the source. I don't think the republican party, as an official party, should be allowed to promote any religion at all. As a political organization, religion should play no part. Secondly, these anti-gay religious groups should be barred from having anything to do with politics, law, or other political organizations. They say they are all about "personal liberty", but want to curtail and/or remove our liberties entirely. Make any sense? That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard in a while. Sorry, not even "God" can revirginize you. You had sex. You are not a virgin. Plain and simple. From a religious standpoint, Forgiveness and the washing away of sins does not make them as if they do not exist. It only goes so far as you being absolved of them, forgiven for them. They still happened. They still exist. You are meant to remember and learn from them. So, even from a religious point of view, you have it all skewed and twisted to suit your own selfish self-shame Lying to yourself and giving credence to such delusions are signs of mental illness. This kind of thing isn't all that unheard of. It acts as a means of torture and humiliation. It is meant to be demeaning. On top of that, it can do some SERIOUS damage. A rapist is not going to be nice and gentle like a lover. He's going to just slam it in with vicious brutality, doing a lot of damage and creating a LOT of pain. These guys better NEVER get out of prison. Maybe, while they are in, they will be raped a few times themselves and learn what it's like. Additionally, for you Queenie, happy people don't need to hinge every aspect of life on some book of faerie tales. Happy people are much more able to make informed decisions for themselves with logic, reason, and an intent for positive outcomes. I'm not saying that all Christians are unhappy, just the ones who become fanatical addicts of that silly book and it's opiate words. If there were a God, he would want you to live life for yourself, not trying to follow the man-made religions like a sheep. He supposedly gave you free will for a reason. It did mention in the article that Parker is staying out of the gay fray. She is standing above it and trying to run a clean campaign based on her career history and actual qualifications. Also, to be fair, the other candidate isn't the one throwing the rainbow stones either. This is all coming from a couple of anti-gay activists, not officially associated with the campaign, and some pastors butting in to the campaign, uninvited, and turning it nasty and mean. However, you are right in that, when it comes down to decision time, people with base their choice off of Parker's sexuality rather than her credentials and qualifications. Our nation is fickle and dumb. Yet, we continue to pander to all the idiots. Why? Because there is a whole f*cking lot of them. That is already being done. There are many youth shelters. People decided to create a gay shelter in order to help homeless gay kids feel safer without the abuse they may have experienced at other shelters. At many shelters, gay kids are exposed to verbal and physical abuse from both other youth as well as shelter staff. they need a safe alternative where they won't be called "f*ggot" or be beaten up.
