He's out! Baseball league bans 9-year-old from pitching because...

How fast do you think that ball goes flying back into the field when hit? Fast enough to leave a thread imprint on my son's chin when he took one to the face. At least when your in the box, you are expecting the ball to head your way. When you are waiting on the hit, you never know if you will have enough time to react. There is no difference in safety.  (Aug 26, 2008 | post #232)

Wrong - it is dumb to make crass jokes about someone taking their life.  (Aug 26, 2008 | post #19)

I agree about the trophies. We have them everywhere because my boys receive one each year for just participating. They collect, say thanks, then put it on the shelf and forget about it. This year my youngest son's team took 1st place and got the big trophy...you know that one never gets dusty. He's always polishing it up.  (Aug 26, 2008 | post #202)

Yep, there are restrictions. Here it is three innings, but a pitcher can be pulled early if the pitch count is getting to high. There was a pitcher on my son's team this year who threw so hard that if catch missed the ball, it would hit the backstop and roll back to the mound. Even the umps joked about it. But, he was never told not to pitch or give it his all. That said, I sure am glad my son was on his team versus hitting agaisnt him. :)  (Aug 26, 2008 | post #151)

Hmm... My kids have played for five years using a pitching machine at 40 mph...no one banned the machine. If a pitch came out the wrong way, they learned to duck. It's just part of the game. This is junk. Let the kid pitch. Let the batters swing. If they miss, they miss. If they get a hit, good for them. A little competitive challenge never killed anyone. And keep the cry-baby coaches out of it. Some kids are just better ball players than others...fact of life. I'd be more focused on the boy's arm and his mechanics. That is some awful hard throwing for a nine yr old arm.  (Aug 26, 2008 | post #123)

Construction zone speeders hit with average fines of $660

Believe me, there is plenty of construction in Michigan right now. I haven't been to work on time since early May. 45 MPH is the standard here now where I live. There are orange barrels as far as the eye can see and no end in sight as for the completion of the work. I just drive slower and expect to be delayed. I hate getting hung up in the traffic but I'd rather be late then cause an accident or kill someone. And it isn't always big SUV's and semi's that drive erractically. Those little cars like to dart out and around. I can't tell you how many are on my backside when I do 45...and I can't see them because I drive an SUV and they tuck right up under me, honking their horn because I am not going fast enough for them. I was flipped off three times last week for doing the posted speed limit in a contruction zone...real nice. It's not the vehicle - it's the driver.  (Aug 25, 2008 | post #106)

Tigers trade Pudge to Yankees

Me too. The business end of baseball just stinks.  (Jul 31, 2008 | post #35)

Tigers trade Pudge to Yankees

That's the first thought I had...I will miss his bum. Good think I took plenty of pictures at the last game I attended! I think I'm still in shock over this trade. I hate when players get moved...I still miss Sean Casey on 1st and Inge at third.  (Jul 31, 2008 | post #34)

Yankees swap Farnsworth for Pudge -- but why?

There are many broken-hearted fans in Detroit today - myself included. I know there are stories swirling about Pudge's age and diminishing ability, but the first time he guns down a young wannabe base-stealer in a close game, you'll see what that old man's arm can do. It's a beautiful sight. Take good care of him, you lucky Yankee fans. :)  (Jul 31, 2008 | post #64)

Slain soldier's husband charged with arson

I'm very sorry for you. It can't be easy to deal with this no matter what side you are on. What a tragic loss for their families. Obviously somebody wanted to hurt her. Even if she did commit adultery,as you say, she didn't deserve to be burned and tossed out like trash. Lately there has been lots of stories about soldiers and murder. Very sad.  (Jul 14, 2008 | post #11)

When you can't see kids in the rearview mirror

It's worth taking a few seconds to walk around your vehicle before moving it...you never know what might be behind you. Could be a bike, a pet, a child...take the time to be sure that all is clear. Very sad and preventable.  (Jul 13, 2008 | post #6)

Brain cancer, and poverty too

Wow...what a survivor! Thank goodness for those who have stepped in to help this man out. He is a person and his life is worth fighting for. Good luck, Mr. King. My thoughts are with you. Stay strong and continue to press on through this battle.  (Jul 13, 2008 | post #2)

Orlando dad gets gas by trading son's name

So something so sacred as naming your child is worth a whole 100 dollars to this guy - this is really pathetic. I'm afraid to ask what else he will sell.  (Jul 13, 2008 | post #27)
