Thanks for your work Asterismos. I would find a couple of other factors useful as well. First, how much court activity does Towns county have vs. other counties. Second, with the high number of arrests we have had this year; how does that number measure up to other counties. Last, I wonder what the number of "residents " our jail has that aren't being held for other countries and how does this measure up as well? It needs to be noted that North Georgia College and State University has it's own Police Department so they don't rely on Lumpkin county for that function. (3 hrs ago | post #90)

The sheriff has no knowledge of nor does he endorse, support or encourage my postings. Both offices need improvement, one of them is improving and everyone knows which one. Slandering the king? Sorry you're wrong on this one. He is an elected government official that is doing a severely substandard job. That isn't slander. If he can't accept criticism then maybe he needs to retire. He like most of us needs a mentor, but the difference is that he pretends to have all the expertise needed to operate the county and discharge his duties for the benefit of all the citizens of Towns county. The only area of expertise he displays is being a dishonest tyrant. He grandstands and misuses his power by pursuing losing lawsuits, pretending state mandates were his idea, rides the coattails of other county's actions, hides county income, lies about the budget, cuts deals with suppliers before public bidding and fraudulently manipulates the budget. I referred to the lame per capita argument as lame and simple minded. You appear to be drinking the kool-aid in fact, the king's kool-aid at that. You state that pasting details and facts as not useful. I wonder what you would prefer. I guess the simplistic half truths presented as evidence by the king is good enough for you. Tell me how looking for legal requirements and contrasting those requirements with the facts on the ground are not applicable to Towns county. Are we an independent nation governed only by the whims of the monarch? I could be nicer and I'll work on that. Thanks for pointing that out. You will probably find a completely different motive for the start of this thread than what is apparent. Mr. Stookey has been involved with some very dirty politics and this all revolved around the sheriff's election in Towns County last year. Twice he put half truths and inuendo in the papers when there would be no chance to respond. This Hill notice was more of the same. Don't fall for it. I disagree. Most counties do not have a seperate police department. I will bet that no small rural counties do. Having a seperate police department will cost the taxpayers more simply because there will be a duplication of administrators. You're getting closer to the actual reason for Kendall's press releases. It/they, are a preemptive strike, if you will. He has been caught playing shady games with the budget, doing things that could be considered fraud and he needed to try to justify his actions with stupid and misleading statistics from other counties.
