Danica Patrick could be NASCAR's new band-aid, but for how long?

Katherinne, while she's nose to nose with one of the boys, she better be watching out for the boys wife or girlfriend. That little spitfire Bobby Hamilton Jr. is married too would think nothing of whipping her right on pitroad.  (19 hrs ago | post #24)

Who Has A Better Chance Of Winning Alll 3 Races This Weekend

Based on the performance of these two drivers in all three series this year, Shrub wins hands down. Five truck wins in a row, leading the Nationwide points and four cup wins this year against 2 Nationwide wins for Harvick. Not much of a contest.  (19 hrs ago | post #1)

Danica: Hate or Love her

Whether she is the best female driver ever is questionable at best. You're correct that she will have first class equipment to drive but so has most of the male drivers from other venues that have attempted to race in NASCAR. Sam Hornish (two IRL championships) is in good equipment but he's 30th in points after 3 years in the series. If she is even slightly serious at trying to competitively compete, she better bring something to the game no one has seen in her yet.  (19 hrs ago | post #40)

Danica Patrick to Drive in NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2010?

Without comparing them to anything, the COT DOES look like a Rambler. Because a driver is very proficient in one type of car does not mean they will automaticly be proficient in all other types of race cars. Does anyone doubt that Steve Kinser is the King of Sprint Car racing but do any of you remember his disasterous attempt at driving in NASCAR? "In 1995 Steve landed a NASCAR Winston Cup Series ride as Drag racing legend Kenny Bernstein hired Kinser to drive his #26 Quaker State Ford, but released him after only five starts after a best finish of 27th and average finish of 35th. The idea of bringing Kinser to NASCAR was due to Jeff Gordon's success in sprint cars and midgets and bringing in one of the series best drivers would translate the same success." Courtesy of Wikipedia. Danica has every right to race in whatever form she desires but has the responsibility to understand her status in open wheel will mean absolutely nothing to other drivers in the Nationwide series. The whole world knows without even having to ask, that she's going to get a ton of cash to do this, far more than she could ever win in Nationwide racing. This fact alone, is going to cause some silent resentment and it will show up on the track very quickly.  (20 hrs ago | post #68)

Hamlin questions Gordon's motives on bump drafting

Got to get another cup of coffee, maybe it will improve my spelling. Happy Veterans Day everyone. Thank you for your service and sacrifice to every veteran out there. Please remember our service men and women in your prayers.  (20 hrs ago | post #12)

Hamlin questions Gordon's motives on bump drafting

What's Hamlin got to cry about if it is an open door policy that NASCAR has. He can go in and say whatever he wants whenever he wants. Just like Jeff did. Does his whiny ass think the other drivers should ask his permission before they say something to NASCAR. That's way it sounds to me. Maybe NARCAR didn't think they needed anymore in put to make a decision. Sounds like his feelings are hurt that NAECAR doesn't think he is important enough to ask advise from. Win you some championships Hamlin, then NASCAR might consider you worthy of asking you advise.  (21 hrs ago | post #11)

No whining. No drafting. No fun.

I truely hope she doesn't take what I said the wrong way because I have a world of respect for her. She is a drag racing team owner herself and really does know the sport. I understand that people want good competition without any limitations on the cars but at some tracks that's just not possible. NASCAR has tested anything and everything since 1987 to take the plate of the restrictor plates but so far they haven't found anything anymore effective. I guess they could go small displacement engines with less carbureation but then the cost for the 4 plate races would be more than the rest of the season put together. Maybe they will be able to do something different when they go to electronic fuel injection. Sometimes NASCAR just gets caught between a rock and hard place, they have to keep the racing safe and sane but still try to make it competitive and interesting for the fan. Sometimes that's damn near impossible to do.  (Yesterday | post #58)

NASCAR

No whining. No drafting. No fun.

That really surprises me Snow. As a racer yourself, you should be one of the first to realize all that did was hurt some other racers just as much as it may have hurt NASCAR. From being on the inside, you know damn well most of these type of decisions are made in an attempt to keep the people involved safe from themselves. If they take the plates off those cars at Dega and say go for it, most everyone of those boys are going to do it. Most everyone of them would understand and be scared to do it but would never back down. If they did that, those cars would be going 230 plus and the "Big One" is really going to be something. One race doesn't make a season in NASCAR or drag racing. People can talk about boring racing all they want, but competition in closer and more different people are winning than ever before. I'm old enough to remember when the average number of drivers to finish on the lead lap was only 5 or 6. I remember races where the winner had lapped the field. How damn competitive is that? People take about bringing back the good old days of racing when they don't really know anything about the real "good old days". The one thing I have come to realize is most people don't have a clue about what is involved but they're going to whine their ass off anyway. I thought you were bigger than that. Throwing in the towel on something you love, is just throwing in the towel on the people involved.  (Tuesday | post #45)

48 Cheaters 48

I think the key phrase in your post is "If you want to win championships ". Winning a championship is the dream of every team that brings a car to a race BUT the majority of these people understand from the start that isn't going to happen. They don't come to the track feeling that everything that happens to them is unfair because some other teams have more resources. They come to the track with about the same attitude that ant had about moving the rubber tree plant. Over the years I've seen teams pull transmissions, rear ends, front suspensions, you name it, out of there hauler and give it to another team to fix their car and send what free help they to had to assist. This one of the wonderful things about NASCAR that most people don't get to see. Behind that pitroad, these people are friends and lookout for each other even when they're not on the same team and NASCAR doesn't need to stick it's nose in it.  (Tuesday | post #15)

I'm not trying to be a smartass, just trying to truthfully answer your question. I've spend many races in the pits over the years and have seen plenty of occasions when a single car team had a mishap and took their car to the pits. Mechanics from other teams would jump in and help them get their car repaired. I've seen teams that were competing for a position help each other, that's just the way they are. I've seen a lot of teams give other teams parts to get them back in a race. Richard Childress is the best in the business for helping other teams in the gargage.  (Tuesday | post #13)

Dale Jr.: Nothing new, but Patrick good for NASCAR

Hell, If were her, I'd pack up all my good A cup bras head to NASCAR too. Tons of money for a few races and tons of money in the souvenir busines, what's not to like, except racing with those good ole boys that run around week after week for peanuts. Let me put myself in one of those guys shoes, let's say Kelly Bires. I've been busting my ass trying to get a steady ride and here comes some high profile, female open wheeler whose going to get the royal treatment for running a few races for a few million. Let's see, am I going to move over and give her the track or am I going to move over and give her the wall. Hmmm, Let's see, I'm going to be a gentleman and help her learn to stockcar race so I'll rub her fender a little right here and let the wall rub the fender on the other side a little. Are we having fun yet? Watch that aero-push Darling, it will mess you up every time.  (Monday | post #14)

Dale Earnhardt Jr is not a good driver?

Yes, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is a good driver. No, he hasn't shown himself to be a great driver. Is he good enough to be in the Cup division? Damn right he is. Regardless of what his last name is, he was the driver in the seat for 18 Cup wins. There are only 9 active drivers with more wins. 33 drivers have driven in Cup race THIS YEAR that have NEVER won a Cup race. How many out there consider Neil Bonnett, Geoff Bodine and Harry Gant great drivers? Guess what, Jr. has as many Cup wins as they do. How about past greats like Curtis Turner, Lee Roy Yarbough and Donnie Allison? He has more wins. Jr. ran damn good yesterday till his crew chief left him out a little too long and he had a problem restarting the car after refueling. When the 88 team finally jells, there is going to be more wins. Will he ever win a championship? Who knows but the greats that I have compared him with never did.  (Monday Nov 9 | post #4)

Because NASCAR doesn't regulate who works on the car in garage like they do in the pits. They were all HMS employees, what's the big deal?  (Monday Nov 9 | post #4)
