That's funny....when i overeat i don't feel very good. Certain foods i eat have effects on me, like acidic foods give me heartburn. Yesterday i had killer heartburn from orange juice....PURE orange juice! So in your logic, if food was meant to be in us we would have been born with it in our bodies? Because there are some foods i eat that i cannot tolerate. What about people with lactose intolerance? They weren't meant to have dairy i guess because it gives them ill effects and they weren't born with it in their bodies. Too much of anything is bad for you, take for instance vitamins. We have to eat and be in the sun to get vitamins...are they meant to be in our bodies, because they aren't already in there? Too much of most vitamins is toxic, as is alcohol, Tylenol, WATER, food, etc. So i guess we're not supposed to have any of those either. (Friday | post #191)

Believe it or not you just contributed to the irrelevant BS. Believe me, it's going to take a heck of a lot more to make Bennington a better place then what you've suggested. FYI, go on over to any of the other topix articles; there are some from all over the country, and even people on those veer off track! You're absolutely right, they don't realize that people break their backs and neglect their own families day in and day out earning the pay that goes toward their assistance checks. Driving a truck has to be one of the worst jobs i can think of...of course there are much worse, but i think this one is up there. My boyfriend's mother used to work in a jail and the female inmates would sit there and tell her, "they owe me my welfare" and she would ask who owes you? Their response? The government. She said she's had to explain numerous times that it was the tax payers paving their way, not the government. Many of these people were raised on welfare so they grow up to do the same. The woman you described sounds like a lot of women in Bennington. I've worked in retail since i was 16, and have seen a lot of people much older than me with families take part time positions and have no desire to work their way up. I worked my way into management, because i figure if i'm going to be here i might as well earn more money and have a better position. I had more ambition at 17 then they all did at 30, 40, and 50, and i always wondered why. Truth of the matter is they probably got checks in the mail and didn't have to work so many hours. Let's just get rid of the military then and fight our own battles. We can also get rid of the president, we can run this country ourselves. No one ever said they had a problem with people that NEED WELFARE. The problem lies with the people that never work and keep popping out kids to get a bigger check, and contribute nothing to society. IT DOES HAPPEN and will CONTINUE to. Also, think of all the morbidly obese people that are on disability because they are full of ailments from their obesity.They are doing nothing but furthering their own problems and not trying to fix themselves and their lives. I don't care if it's eight dollars a month, four dollars, whatever. When you break it down, it takes me almost a half hour to make that four dollars! And trust me, i work my damn butt off in the store i work in because my customers all ride in from the ghetto, in their Lexus's and food stamp cards ready to buy all the cookies and crackers and chips, and seasonal candy that they want! I had a young woman just the other night spend 60 bucks with her kids there. Only around 10 of it came out of her pocket, the rest was food stamps, and guess what she had? Pop tarts, cookies, crackers, chips, soda, sugary juice, canned spam, etc. The least that woman could do is buy her kids some healthy food instead of JUNK. The welfare system here in NY seems to be a bit more lenient than in VT. They must get more money. All of these people drive beautiful cars and have much nicer clothes than I do on my back. But they live in the ghetto and make minimum wage IF they work. Bennington is on the fast track to becoming the same way! So as I said, i don't care how many dollars it is, i still work for it and i have a right to be unsatisfied with where it is going. I could be using that 48$ a year to help pay off my car or something. Our president deserves to be paid a salary as does the rest of the government who helps keep the country orderly, and we need protection. Yes children need to be fed and if i could i would buy all the food i could to feed any child that didn't have a substantial diet, but unfortunately i can't. It's not the child's fault their parents are however they are so they should not suffer. However, some of these younger people on welfare never should have given it up and had kids if they couldn't afford them! Planned parenthood offers cheap birth control and FREE condoms! There are a lot of Americans that contribute to medical, psychological, and scientific breakthroughs, as well as work hard every day to try to help the rest of mankind, and to not give them credit is just plain **** . What else was expected? Since that place opened i've been shocked that it has lasted as long as it has. I was a teenager when it opened and was really disappointed when i went in there one time to see it was all outdoor gear. I was hoping for a clothing store. He had a good run, but the town sucks. People will just keep moving away and nothing is going to come out of Bennington, except for more welfare recipients and drug addicts. See ya! (Sunday Nov 22 | post #19)
