I agree with her on the subject of Yoga-Vasishtha. The storys are like Zen Koans. They ripe the mind a part to expose the consciousness the is the ground of all being.  (Oct 25, 2009 | post #2)

Wendy Doniger speaks on her new book on Hindu scriptures

All of you need to read Wendy Doniger Q and A on Hinduism. Which of the many Hindu scriptures that you have translated over the years filled you awe, and which one filled you with disgust? Why? "I suppose the Rig Veda struck me with the most awe, such a beautiful, profound text and so old, but the one that fascinated me most was the Yoga-Vasishtha, with its brilliant stories. No Hindu texts have ever disgusted me; I got quite angry at Manu from time to time while I was translating him, especially when he was particularly racist or sexist, but I never lost my respect for his enormous intelligence and his ability to put together into an integrated whole so many different aspects of dharma." It is clear that she has a different view of Hinduism then John Voxx.  (Oct 25, 2009 | post #1)

Interview a Hindu

hat are the important holidays and traditions of Hinduism religion? Lots and Lots of holidays. Holi and Diwali are the big Hindu holidays. I would like to post about my favorite holiday Navaratri-The 9 days of the the Divine Mother. It starts this Saturday. Many Hindus who worship God as Mother Fast and pray for 9 days. This celebration is about the Mother Goddess Durga killing the demon Mahishasura or Great Ego. This is the celebration of God our Mother taking away all of our bad behavior the cause of all of our suffering. 2. Hinduism do not seem to perceive of a god in the same way Christians think of God.Why? Hinduism is not one religion but a group of religions (or paths to find the truth of life). That all came from India. So there are many concepts of God in Hinduism. Some sects seem to be monotheistic (Vaishnaism) Some sects talk about God as there Mother not there Father.(Shaktism) They call God the Mother of the Universe. Some sects see God as the ground of all being.(Monism or all is one,all is God ) This is called Advaita Vedanta. Some sects don't even talk about God. You can be an Atheist and be a Hindu. In Hinduism there are many many different ways of looking at the truth. 3. Is Hinduism religion diverse religion? Very , you might even find it hard to believe. 4. Who or what is Siva? To a shavite he is the One God of infinite goodness. 5. Where is the main state for fellowship? and how often is it? I don't understand. I pray at home. I go to 2 different temples around 2 times a month. 6. What is the name of your leader and how often do you get to see him? I don't give out names on the internet. She is a saint from Assam. I have not seen her in over a year and a 1/2. 7. What is the name of the Hinduism belief? I am mostly a mix of Shaktism and Advaita Vedanta. 8. Do Hinduism fellowship with any other beliefs? My sect fellowships with all faiths. Muslims, Buddhists and Christians have talked at my temple. 9. How has Hinduism religion shaped your life? 10. What are the challenges, if any, to practicing the this particular religion? I put these questions together I hope its ok. My personal goal in Hinduism is to root out all selfishness so I can have pure love for all beings.( let me just say for the record that I am not very close to reaching in my goal). I can tell you I fail a lot. Little by little i am becoming a better man, dad , and husband. I hope I never reach my goal. So I can always try to be a better person. I think you can see all the challenges in this path. This forces you to relate to every word you say, and all the work you engage in, as an object of worship of God. Hindu spiritual practices are all about shaping yourself into the type of person you want to be. What is the name of your leader and how long has he been your leader? She is has been my teacher for many years. How old do you have to start in the Hinduism religion? When your born. What is the dress code for women and men? I don’t believe in dress codes. I would not wear shorts to temple.  (Oct 24, 2009 | post #113)

Sorry one more timeHe only says it’s a fact. And that they have found horse fossils. Here is some more info. “Since the occurrence of the horse is a matter of debate, opinion of an international expert was also sought that of professor Sandor Bokonyi...” This is what he said “Through a study of equid remains ot the protohistoric settlement of Surkotada, kutch... I can state the following: The occurrence of a true horse was evidenced by the enamel pattern...” The Indo-Aryan controversy: evidence and inference in Indian history By Edwin Bryant, Laurie L. Patton Can’t you see the problem, AIT propionates must prove that it’s true. They can not, just like the Out of India propionates can’t prove there side either. Nobody really knows. So lets just say the Vedas was written by Indians and leave it at that.  (Oct 23, 2009 | post #166)

The chariot originated in Mesopotamia ( in urban areas ) around 3000 BC. These are more properly called wagons or carts, they had axles and pulled by oxen or asses before the introduction of horses around 2000 BCThe chariot and the horse , was introduced to Egypt by the Hyksos invaders in the 16th century BC and undoubtedly contributed to thier butt kicking army.  (Oct 22, 2009 | post #164)

I bet you nobody can find an non urban culture that used a chariot. I can't think of one. Egyptians Hittites, and Celts all lived in towns. Nomadic people can't travel by chariots. I come from a family of cowboys anybody with any common sense would not travel off road on wheels. The Aryans were a urban people.  (Oct 20, 2009 | post #160)

The idea that horses are none native to India is no longer a given. There is new archeological evidance of horses has been found in both Harappan and pre Harappan sites.(Short History of Hinduism by Klostermaier pg 38 ) One more big problem that my 11 year old son came up with. Nomadic people do not use chariots only urban people use them. I looked it up and klostermair says the same thing. How could a bunch of Nomadic people travel by chariot they must have built a great system of roads.  (Oct 20, 2009 | post #159)
