Threat prompts evacuation of Nassau courthouse
Kris_Ma, never assume that a place is in the community that is in that place's mailing address: Of all 293 communities located on Long Island, only the Village of Sea Cliff in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County and its same-named postal zone have identical borders. All the other postal zones in either county have a different border from the community (city, village or hamlet) whose name the postal zone "shares" . The following should help you understand better the confusion between postal zone community and true community -- and, it may also bring a smile or two to your lips: ..........You Ain't Where You Think You Are ..............Plac e, Community (Postal Zone) Adventureland, Hamlet of East Farmingdale (Farmingdale, NY) Brookhaven National Laboratory, Hamlet of Yaphank (Upton, NY) Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium, Village of Laurel Hollow (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) Cold Spring Harbor Lab, Village of Laurel Hollow (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) Christopher Morley Park, Village of North Hills (Roslyn, NY) C.W. Thousands welcome troops home in Garden City
I was incorrect when I posted that, "Located at 605 Stewart Avenue, the Marine Reserve Training Center is in East Garden City ("Garden City, NY 11530" mailing address)." 605 Stewart Avenue IS in the Village of Garden City. My only excuse, and it's a lame one at that, is that I used MapsOnUs.com, and it, apparently, guessed (interpolated) at the location of 605 Stewart Avenue (as does MapQuest.com). I should have double-checked with the Census Bureau's address search function (you may need to copy and paste in sections in order to get this extended URL into a browser): http://factfinder. census.gov/servlet /AGSGeoAddressServ let?_lang=en&_ programYear=50 &_treeId=420 Among other things, the Census Bureau's address search function indicates in which community (city, village or CDP) and school district an address is located. (CDP or Census Designated Place is the Census Bureau nomenclature for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.) I apologize for my error. (May 4, 2009 | post #5)
