Folks, I've been thinking.....perha ps my miserable mood of late is attributed to the fact that I've been doing almost exclusively foreclosure work. I'm seeing the economic wreckage up close and personal here. I was asked to do some FDIC work to inspect houses for failed banks that were being foreclosed. That's where I draw the line. I'm NOT having a hand in any form putting people into the street. I know somebody has to do that sort of thing but it isn't me. I suppose seeing people getting foreclosed weekly and hearing A-hole politicians talk about health care that nobody seems to want and global warming while seeing people's hard work going into the toilet is enough to put anybody in a crappy mood. Gump, Talk about getting older.......when I was interviewing the people I was looking at yesterday, I was forgetting to ask some of the questions I've been asking for the past 20 years. Yesterday, I was working with a structural engineer out of Chicago. It's a good thing I was there.....this guy was so old, he forgot to ask a bunch a structural questions! So I asked for him. It was like two drunks trying to hold each other up by leaning against each other! All I can say is things are pretty bad out there in Michigan. They were foreclosing on two ice rinks! Michigan is a place where hockey is a real big deal. Over here, it's tough to get ice time. Over there....ice rinks are closing. When people can't afford to let their kids play hockey.....somethi ng is seriously wrong. When I went to Big John's for my sandwich yesterday. I saw this guy in his mid to late 30's come in dressed in a suit and tie asking for a job application. As I was eating, I overheard this guy on the cell phone telling somebody all the other places he intended fill out a job application. Gump.....this guy was in his prime earning years! Seeing this fella filling out a job application for minimum wage at a fast food joint is not a good thing. The fact is in Flint there isn't much else. The Commie (Tuesday Dec 8 | post #48)

Thanks for the mulligan guys. I woke up yesterday in a I don't know what kind of mood. After writing here yesterday, I thought it best to let my calls go to voice mail for most of the day. Heck, even the dogs stayed in the back seat yesterday. Yesterday, I had to look at a couple of properties in Flint, MI that were being foreclosed upon. No matter how bad you think you have it, you somehow feel blessed because you don't have to stay in Flint. No matter where you live (except Camden, NJ), home anywhere has got to be better than Flint. At least a Big John's was open so I could get a decent steak and cheese sandwich. Today, I have to look at a place that's NOT being foreclosed in Ithaca, NY. Degreed Psychologist, One more thing.... Yes, Life Coach lost a toe working on a loading dock at the age of 15. However at that the age of 15, a court views a person as "sine mentis".....u nable to decide for themselves. What's the age for statutory rape? BINGO! Life Coach's parents sued the employer....as damned well they should have! Let me guess, if the same thing happened to your kid, assuming you're old enough to have a 15 year old kid.......you'd be apologizing to the company owner for your kid getting his loading dock bloody and for the inconvenience? Hell no! You'd be running to the phone book looking for the first slip and fall lawyer you could find to sue the evil bastard who hired your bundle of joy. Northie, I now have what I think is a successful business. I also had a business that failed. One of most difficult things in the world when you fail is to look in the mirror and honestly assess what went wrong. The first and natural instinct is to blame outsiders for your failure. It was the economy, the markets, big corporations squashing me and on and on. There are millions of excuses and none of them are very good. So when these scientists "feel" they are under attack by "opponents ", it is not only natural but predictable. I doubt any of these scientists will say they are losing or lost public opinion because they disposed of data, dismissed contradictory evidence and/or weren't forthcoming with data requested under Freedom of Information. Northie, The term "highly reviewed" becomes meaningless when the reviewers are unethical and contradictory evidence is dismissed by them without merit. I'm not buying the "concerted attacks" by the energy industry either. I don't see where the energy industry takes a hit in the profit margins if anti-global warming legislation is enacted. Industry will pass along the increased taxes to the consumer. What I do see however is a pipeline of revenue to ALL governments worldwide from the increased taxes placed on energy. From what I see, the energy industry has little to lose financially. However, the governments stand to lose plenty if anti-global warming legislation ISN'T enacted. As such, the government is NOT a dispassionate player letting the chips fall where they may and taking it from there. All governments have a VERY BIG financial interest in the outcome. I'm long past the belief that government is the watchdog out there protecting the little guy and the planet from harm. When it comes to money government is every bit as scummy and conniving as any industry. That also goes for the scientists who have been getting millions in research dollars. What I find most perplexing is that the incriminating emails were "stolen" by "hackers ". However, if there were incriminating emails from the energy industry, they would be "brought to light" by a concerned "whistle-blow er". It's funny how ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN gave tons of coverage to the Tiger Woods affair but not one mention of the incriminating emails........and some people call Fox "Faux News"? Cue, I was doing some consulting work for an investment bank. Despite the bashing the USA takes over its environmental regulations, environmental regulations in other parts of the world are effectively nonexistent. The investment bank was worried that somehow, someway they'd be sucked into a liability loop (Deep Pockets Theory), so I went down there to make sure that they were following ISO 14000 guidelines.
