Victim Dies After Highway 84 Menlo Park Shooting
Hello, I never met the guy but I knew people that knew him. From what i know, I don't think he was a gang member (by this i mean, he was not part of a Real Organized gang). Yes, he probably got into trouble, but to say he was a gang member, no. Living in a city like east palo alto and having a nickname automatically leads to an assumption that one might be affiliated with a gang, but it's not true. Part of growing up in a city like East Palo Alto means that one is bound to get a nick name by friends and family members. It's part of the cities culture. I grew up in east palo alto and i have seen the challenges young kids face there. Drugs, violence (domestic, verbal, psychological and physical), affiliation with the wrong crowd and tempatations are just a few challenges kids face. And the way i see it, the PROBABILITY of them encountering AT LEAST ONE is, I would say from observation, at least 80%. Now, after the encounter, there are those who get trapped. The city needs to do a better job in educating kids. I wouldn't recommend spending money in the same old campaigns they do every year. For example, you will sometimes see banners that say, "Don't do drugs," "Stay In School," etc. I mean, yes they help, but they are not helping enough. Why not tell kids the truth. For example, show them the numbers. Show them the population of the city they live and how many of the people living there have at least a high school degree. How much money people make? How many people die do to crime? Then show them the number of people who lived in the city and actually got at least a high school degree and how their living conditions are compared to those without a HS degree. Then go up one more level. Show them the stats of people who grew up in the city and compare their living conditions. I really want to let people know, especially young kids who are going to school now, to take a step back and watch what violence does and what education causes. really think about it. Sorry, what I meant to say was, how can a person stop, after an accident like this one, and talk to people and then manage to leave the scene. This is what I meant by (Mar 25, 2008 | post #7)
First of all, i was there after it happened. What a witness told me was that the motorcycle guy was actually speeding down el camino real. Now, this doesn't mean it was the motorcyclist's fault. I just wanted to add another variable to the accident. In regards to the guy's leg, yes, the knee cap was popped and the bone of the upper leg was sticking out (i mean, out out). Now Richard, you said "he fckn drove away!!!" and then you said, "He said he was from Mexico, visiting, heavy spanish accent so I assumed he was Mexican." How can he drive away and then say he was from Mexico, visiting? Can you tell me how that is possible? Another thing, how many cars were involved b/c there is a dented car that was left at Happy Dough nuts. Is that the vehicle that was involved? (Mar 4, 2008 | post #4)
