Harley welder dies while riding

I used to ride but gave that and skydiving up over 20 yrs ago. Why ? because I had more than just me ...I had a family. I enjoyed riding and rode ONE time without a helmet and never did it again. Sure it's legal to ride without but that doesn't mean it is a good idea. I have the remains of road rash on my arm from June 30 , 1980. Condolences to the family of this man though , they dont need any criticism.  (Jul 11, 2009 | post #56)

Two die in motorcycle crash

When helmets were required , I was told at a bike shop that " if you have a $10 head , wear a $10 helmet". I guess those that choose to not wear a helmet ( and I dont know if these two did or didn't ) , have a worthless head. The helmet law should either come back as mandatory OR the helmetless rider should be required to carry significant insurance to cover his/her potnetial demise. The intersection of Hess Farm and Ironstone Hill Rd is not a bad intesection. I travel that way a good bit and like any other intersection when you actually stop and look, you are fine. There is no sight distance problem from any position. ( Unless the person at the stop sign doesn't stop)  (Jul 6, 2009 | post #79)

York City fills gap with three new police officers

100% agree. First, we dont know if any candidates of color applied or scored well enough to make it into the top 3. Second...do we want the BEST QUALIFIED officers or the most different color of officers ( even if they aren't the best qualified) handling 911 calls ??  (Jul 5, 2009 | post #22)

DUI patrol nets three

People are convicted based on their driving, appearance, lack of motor skills and level of intoxication. The SENTENCE is based on the BAC level. .08-.099 .10- .159 .16 and up. The higher the BAC the stiffer the penalty.  (Jun 27, 2009 | post #63)

Residency requirement is not a good idea

Cops are one of the few " government employees" that should be exepmt from any residency requirement. Can you imagine having to arrest a neighbor and than live their ?  (May 18, 2009 | post #3)

Police log: Police smash doors, arrest 17 people in drug sweep

Must be quite the lifestyle....you never know if a rival dealer is coming to rip you off or it's the police coming to arrest you.  (May 18, 2009 | post #4)

Very FEW dept's use a breathylizer anymore. The handheld devices that the police use are not useable for charging purposes , they are only to confirm the presence of alcohol. Every PD around here uses the blood test. Doesn't matter what or how one metabolizes booze, the BAC wins.  (May 18, 2009 | post #61)

9-year-old's slaying prompts unity march

Is the march going to go anywhere near where the shooters LIVE ???  (May 15, 2009 | post #21)

Family spokeswoman: Slain 9-year-old 'was an amazing light'

The tragic loss of this little INNOCENT 9 year old girl is the result of punks with guns who wanted to " settle a score". I cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering that this family is going through. They need to be held to the highest criminal charges possible. Anyone who fails or refuses to cooperate with the Police in this investigation is less than human. To the poster who stated ( shown above) that they should have enough sense to not go shooting in broad daylight is as guilty as the one who pulled the trigger. THAT is the mentality of those who WILL keep the cycle of violence and death ALIVE and WELL in York.  (May 15, 2009 | post #116)

Since we cant have different levels of alcohol for different drivers ( just like there isn't a different speed limit for " better " drivers) , you'll have to be subjected to an average level and that number is .08. If you feel you are a better driver at a .15 than some other people are sober, go have another drink cause you are buzzing now.  (May 15, 2009 | post #59)

Ex-cop wants to be found guilty at trial

Because that is a great dramatic effect. Think of putting in 19 years and than being told you lost everything ? ! Sounds good to reinforce the drama that they are presenting. WHen is the last time you factually heard of this happening ?? In the real world it is quite difficult for this to happen.  (May 6, 2009 | post #17)

If you are over the legal limit of .08 , than you have no business on the road. PERIOD. If you must drink, dont drive. Is that too hard for people to understand ? Alcohol is a DEPRESSANT , it slows you down. It takes longer for you to react. Do we need people who have slowed responses it not outright impaired repsonses on the road ? If you think it is perfectly fine to drink beyond a .08 and drive than you are becoming one or are an ALCOHOLIC.  (May 6, 2009 | post #56)

Sounds to me like you were properly and respectfully challenged to defend / state your views. If you choose not to or cannot reply in kind....  (May 4, 2009 | post #18)

Ex-cop wants to be found guilty at trial

No , it was not a " Crime of Violence". He didn't use a weapon against another person to commit the crime. Being armed in and of itself is not a crime unless one is carrying concealed without a permit or is a convicted felon/ underage person not allowed to possess a gun.  (May 4, 2009 | post #14)
