Who do you support for U.S. House in Kentucky (District 2...

I certainly concur with putting a muzzle on lobbyists, although I'm not sure that I can support term limits. If a politician meets the needs of their constituents, it doesn't seem right to tell them that they can't keep them if they want. But we do need more moderates, or more accurately, the right kind of moderates. The centrists we have in congress at the moment are largely principleless cowards, with no ideas, who only take a position that is politically expedient. Generally, the best moderates are the ones who pay the biggest political price. Lincoln Chafee was a Republican senator from RI, who had views that spread across the political spectrum, but he had the courage to vote against the Iraq war from the very get go, and took some positions that were more liberal than the Democrats at that time. He bravely went to the voters and said that he had always voted his convictions and did what he felt was best for the country, and was immediately voted out. And while I strongly disagree with Joseph Lieberman on some issues, his refusal to back down or flip flop was definitely admirable. But now all we have as "moderates " are scum like Susan Collins, Mark Pryor, and that scoundrel from West Virginia.  (Mar 14, 2014 | post #204)

who's selling or abusing drugs in bullitt county

We are absolutely not talking about people who are really in pain who need pills, or who suffer from anxiety disorders that are relieved by xanax or other prescriptions. The issue is about people who are ABUSING drugs, and they aren't really being the ones named, unless they are also selling them.  (Mar 12, 2014 | post #48)

I agree, but I would also like to add that it shouldn't necessarily be a crime to use drugs. It is a horrible vice, and I personally oppose it, but it is still their own bodies. Maybe moving the manufacture and distribution of drugs to a slightly less evil group of people will help. Many European countries let hospitals distribute small amounts of heroin to addicts, to prevent overdoses, and it appears to work. With that said, the dealers in our town (and others) are complete scum and there needs to be a bigger backlash. I'm not calling for vigilante justice in any way shape or form! But that's not to say that these people shouldn't be shunned. After all, everyone knows who they are, and they should feel embarrassed by the harm that they are doing to their customers, and everyone else in the community.  (Mar 12, 2014 | post #42)

want a wet nurse? (breastmilk)

Far more likely, since she is 18, she is simply a young mother who is trying to find a way to afford paying for her child. She is refusing to have sex with a client, so it is in a very hazy part of the law. It may be classified as prostitution, but it may be a loophole. I don't know the laws well enough to be sure.  (Feb 13, 2014 | post #21)

It was another poster that mentioned blood tests to let someone drink breast milk. She never mentioned it.  (Feb 13, 2014 | post #20)

I'm not gonna judge , I don't see anything necessarily wrong with this fetish (don't understand it, and personally think it sounds kinda gross, but to each his/her own) but you might want to check the laws about this. It might be classified as a type of prostitution.  (Feb 13, 2014 | post #16)

Actually mothers with HIV can spread it to their children through breast milk.  (Feb 13, 2014 | post #15)

Catholics?

Heck, we even have a large number of atheist pastors as well. Our churches often have social groups for people to practice witchcraft together. We have Jews and Buddhists and Hindus. We are trying to get more Muslims to join our churches as well.  (Feb 1, 2014 | post #156)

Catholics?

Well, I don't see Baptists, Pentecostals, Mormons (or at least the main one. The church started by his wife after her feud with Young may be cooler), or the majority of the small conservative churches that are mostly independent, giving women any real power either. That's why I'm proud that my pastor is a women (and as an added bonus, an agnostic). But the Methodists, Lutherans, and Episcopalians are all on the right side of history on this issue (ironically, all the churches labeled Catholic lite). And the Quakers, who sadly don't have the large numbers they used to, had female clergy from the get go.  (Feb 1, 2014 | post #135)

Catholics?

On that note, are there actual nuns left nowadays? If my understanding is correct, nuns are the female equivalent of monks (people who live a someewhat secluded life in a monastery), while religious sisters are similar to friars (those who focus more on charity work).  (Feb 1, 2014 | post #123)

Catholics?

As I said, much of their theology is definitely evil, and I would slam the door in the face of any missionaries who came to my house, after pointing out that I have some Native American ancestors. And baptizing Anne Frank and other people who have nothing to do with their church , is beyond disgusting.  (Jan 31, 2014 | post #121)

Catholics?

While I detest many elements of that faith, most Mormon churches are not cults. There are a few fringe groups, generally polygamous groups, that do transform into cults though (that's not to say all polygamous groups are),  (Jan 31, 2014 | post #115)

Catholics?

It's fine to disagree with Catholic theology (I do myself), but the word cult has been thrown around so much that it has lost all meaning. Any time some religious fanatic wants to condemn another person's religion he uses that term so he can pretend that they are too stupid to make their own choices. How many perfectly valid faiths has that term been applied to? Women who grow up as Christians or in secular households, but choose to convert to Islam on their own, are accused of joining cults. New Age religions are constantly being branded with the label. Wiccans are called a cult, despite the complete and utter lack of organization or leadership in the faith. Unitarian Universalists are called a cult for daring to let people think for themselves (people on this forum have even compared them to Jonsestown). The Church of Satan, while morally questionable, is given the label without cause. Jewish sects are labeled cults just because celebrities convert to them. And Pentecostals are given the label, with more justice than the other examples, just because they tell people to fear the outside world.  (Jan 31, 2014 | post #107)

Catholics?

This isn't the Middle Ages. Virtually no one, certainly not someone here in the US, is sent off to be a nun, monk, or friar in the Catholic Church against their will. I feel sad when I see really young guys, even younger than me, who come in groups wearing brown robes (not sure whether they are monks or friars, or exactly what catholic group they are in) but it is their right, and I have to trust that they know what is best for themselves more than I do.  (Jan 31, 2014 | post #88)
