Texas Bird Profile
This is fantastic! Colin Powell is a man of such stature that people on the far, far right have tried to discredit Powell's endorsement based on race. They say "Don't play the race card!" while they turn around and use it. Many Republicans have announced their support for Barack Obama. (Oct 20, 2008 | post #53)
Take away the campaign handlers, Sarah Palin and the crazies at the rallies and we find an interesting human being. I do not like McCain's issue stances. I do not like the nasty people running his campaign. I do not like what we have come to see is true about Sarah Palin and her right wing positions. But there is something good in this man. And here is a must see video. I just loved it. Heroes' star's ringing endorsement of McCain (well, tongue-in-cheek): http://www.huffing tonpost.com/2008/1 0/15/hayden-panett iere-psa-vid_n_134 807.html ... (Oct 15, 2008 | post #17)
More Republicans for Obama: Wife of Senator Chuck Hagel (R-Neb). Chuck himself has avoided the McCain campaign. Dennis Hopper, formerly staunch supporter of G.W. Bush. Visit www.republicansfor obama.com to see which Republican congressmen/women are supporting Obama. (Oct 15, 2008 | post #15)
For kids in most high school & basic college biology classes it is unnecessary. They can learn the same thing by other means. (Oct 14, 2008 | post #14)
Jennifer ... I would not go that far but I applaud your devotion to this. This is an unnecessary activity. (Oct 14, 2008 | post #6)
In my senior year of high school (1966-67) I sought to set myself apart from my father. I embraced Conservatism and its then heroes, such as William F. Buckley and Barry Goldwater. I later left that kind of position, but I saw a good degree of intellectual integrity & honesty in those men--far more than in those now who claim them as models. I admire and respect Christopher Buckley. He goes beyond holding firm to some inflexible position. Good for him! (Oct 13, 2008 | post #6)
I teach my children to drive defensively to watch out for people like that and you. When I was a young man, people were far more civil as drivers. (Oct 8, 2008 | post #31)
My heart goes out to them, especially the girl. She was thoughtful & brave to step out and flag down help. Guns, rage and automobiles are a recipe for tragedy. (Oct 8, 2008 | post #30)
Uh ... I grew up Catholic ergo I still am under the influence of church doctrine and dogma? Hardly! Heck, not even all people still in the Catholic Church embrace all the teachings of the church. (Oct 6, 2008 | post #48)
I am not going to generalize about soccer moms. I am sure they come in all political persuasions. That is beside the point. I do think that Sarah Palin being in the White House is one of the scariest things since, well, uh, **** Cheney. I want to see their time come to an end. (Oct 6, 2008 | post #43)
This is so typical of the Karl Rove right wing extremists. "If you are not with us, you must be a (fill in the blank with one of the following: communist, socialist, godless, liberal, Democrat, feminazi, some oblique racial or ethnic epithet, and so on.)" (Oct 6, 2008 | post #10)
Barely. He is not a mentor, part of the Obama campaign ... really nothing more than the most frail connection can be made. Obama was 8 y.o. when the Weather Underground was active. Obama has strongly denounced the violence of the most radical people of the 1960s. More tangible is McCain's involvement in the Keating Five Scandal. One of his spokesmen today said that McCain was "completely exonerated." By whom? His colleagues. That scandal fits neatly into the crisis what worries us all today. (Oct 6, 2008 | post #29)
"Texas Bird wrote: And some people claim that racism and lynching are things of the pastWell, I do not see that. Obviously, rudeness & incivility are also quite alive too. (Oct 1, 2008 | post #65)
