Schools should teach other "origin" theories

The only problem with this is Intelligent Design is a 'theory' in name only. It is not a scientific theory, it does not deserve to be taught as one in any science class. If the proponents of ID want it to be taught as science they should quit marketing and get back in the lab and prove it is actually science. Right now it is, at best, a philosophy. But it is not a scientific theory addressing life on this planet. Ted Herrlich tedhohio@gmail.com http://sciencestan dards.blogspot.com  (Aug 17, 2009 | post #127)

I liked it too, and I was surprised the Twilight Zone theme didn't come to mind because last weekend was the Twilight Zone Marathon and between the time the TV was actually on and my DVR, I have quit a few episodes to watch :-)  (Jul 13, 2009 | post #11)

So what tune comes to mind when you read this? Twilight Zone theme? The Outer Limits? For me, for some reason, it's the Gilligan's Island theme music.  (Jul 13, 2009 | post #9)

Mummified Dinosaur Skin Yields Up New Secrets

Oh please don't call his idiotic concepts 'theories' that gives them way to much credence. Oh boy, Birds manipulate Gravity . . .he's still digging that one. Has Once_More tried to support him on that one?  (Jul 9, 2009 | post #4)

Theory of evolution IS inherently atheistic

I read Wade's post more as Religion is one of the societal mechanisms we use for cooperation. I didn't read it as the only one. Sure chimps cooperate, as do many other organisms. The point being is there there is scientific evidence, genetic evidence, that an inclination to cooperate is a genetically driven 'impulse' for lack of a better word. It certainly is a survival mechanism. The impulse to cooperate is manifested in many forms. Religion, locality and nationality groups, ethnic groupings, schools and even sport fans are a few examples.  (Jul 8, 2009 | post #159)

McElroy- Ousted in Texas!!

And being dead was no excuse! I did love it when the total votes once exceeded the population by something like 30% and the 'official' turnout percentage was something like 48%. Back in the Daley days, the first Mayor Daley I believe.  (Jul 6, 2009 | post #21)

McElroy- Ousted in Texas!!

Yea, I heard her name in May as Donnie-boy was getting canned. Obviously Perry hasn't learned his lesson, or else he is more in-debted to the conservative right than his constituents had thought. Check out an interesting post on being 'Right'. http://exploringou rmatrix.blogspot.c om/2009/07/from-ar chives-whats-wrong -with-being.html See, I don't only post links to my own blog (http://sciencesta ndards.blogspot.co m). I usually do that when my comments exceed the 4000 characters of Topix.  (Jul 6, 2009 | post #18)

Paleontologists brought to tears, laughter by Creation Museum

Ken Ham's Folly meets Paleontologists (http://sciencesta ndards.blogspot.co m/2009/07/ken-hams -folly-meets-paleo ntologists.html) There is a link on that post to Kennie's own log about the NY Times story . . .it's . . . 'special'. Bottom line, according to little kennie, the science we all discuss and support is called 'observational science', you know the science that works! The 'science' that little kennie is espousing is called 'origin science', you know, the 'science' that doesn't work. I guess he couldn't use the term 'Creation Science' and he had to come up with a new moniker. Part of the problem, Levitican, is kennie might spell the words right, but he certainly doesn't understand them, or he wouldn't use the word 'science' when discussing his narrow-minded belief system.  (Jul 6, 2009 | post #19)

Editor Statement

I volunteered to Edit the Evolution Debate forum simply because the only stories were being posted by the Roboeditor and frequently the stories had nothing to with the topic at hand, and I frequently came across stories that should be on Topix. Yes, I am a supporter of Evolution in science classrooms, and being an editor will not stop me from making my opinions clear, but I have no authority, or do I have an interest, to edit or remove other people's posts. That would be unethical of me and an action I will not be part of!

I Believe In:

Science and Spirituality are not mutually exclusive. However that doesn't mean I believe anything other than science should be taught in science class. Creationism is not science, it is a religious belief. Intelligent Design is also not science for all its attempt to appear based on actual science. I have no issue teaching either one in a Philosophy, Sociology, or even Comparative Religion classes, but not science!
