Charges possible in deadly Chaparral fire
I thought the same thing. Same as a gas meter reader smelling gas. But electricity a little easier to cheat on. But if the wires were buried in shallow soil or in plastic conduit maybe the electric meter dude couldn't see the hazard waiting to flame up. Maybe it looked OK. Maybe not. It also occurs to me that in poor colonias or even on rental lots where the owner only cares to collect the lot rent, that this sort of thing goes on and they do it until they get caught. Being as there was a meter that could be "read", I would not be at all surprised if the meter reader simply turns a blind eye to this in many places. He too, could be sympathatic to the problem and in his way contributes to the ends to a means. I know some Mexicans who think it is their duty to get over on "the man" (gringos) often and for as much as possible. And sadly, this hotwired house wiring is happening right not as we ponder the subject and they know or hope for one more day without a tragedy. Let alone getting caught. Just some thoughts. Reform health care. Sure. It's needed. But don't do it by bankrupting the country to get your name in the books. If someone is sick...God bless you, get help. There is a need and let's get THAT done. But please don't punish me and future generations because YOU are sick. MOST people aren't. We're the healthiest nation on the planet. And for two trillion dollars, they should buy you (them) your own friggin'doctor and clinic. It'll be tons cheaper. Some people have made a frigging career out of being sick, and don't want to stop seeing doctors. And some keep going back or they simply can't get their free money in the mail. Social work. Look what a fine job the government has done with our fine welfare housing programs. Nothing but ghettos and gang slums, taxpayer paid for. Like a lazy, homeless bum on the street with a sign. Offer him a job and watch him squirm. He's too busy looking scroungy and busy. Thanks Harry. Driving out into the more rural colonia areas, and actually in towns, it is NOT unusual to see stick built or mobile homes covered in burglar bars on every window and door. And then some yards are actually encircled in wrought iron gates and fencing all around the yards and the entire property. So, back to the prevention of these deaths, I would poke a guess, as these extension cords somehow never met a circuit breaker that could actually protect them. Or the CORRECT circuit breaker. The breakers were too big to trip. My good guess. Fried wires usually will trip a breaker. I guess it depends on exactly how they had these wires run into the trailer home. These types of accidental deaths are routine across the country, every year, trying to get warm, steal electricity, or save a buck. AMC Matador. Made a pretty good hot rod. But a butt ugly family car. That car was "designed " for trashy trailer parks. It simply fit in. "Look what I can do!" I saw an undercover camera show on TV featuring these people who were busted for insurance fraud. You know the stuff, a guy with a neck brace while driving, jumping on a trampolinne later. I pay over $400 bucks a month for real insurance and it sometimes hurts to be legit. But also very satisfying. Bust the shit out of these frauds and make them also repay the abuse of the system. A liar is a theif and a theif is a liar. There is no seperating the two.
