Does a bio at end of column mean the organizations listed endorse the content?

If the content of a guest editorial mentions nothing about the author but the bio at the end says "X is president of the xx bar association and a school board member" Does this mean or even imply that the school board or bar ( on non legal or educational issues) is taking a stand on this? Please note in your comment if you have journalism background or your opinion is just that of an average or lay person. Thanks!  (Sunday Nov 22 | post #1)

It should capitalize on its architecture - better than any other US city and way better than anything in the Sunbelt. Geez first he hires the mistress with public funds and uses her for sex - then he pays her and hubby off to be quiet and has the audacity on National News to have his atty say its not out of the ordinary "Ensign is a generous person". I don't mind Nevada being the sin state -meaning consenting swingers and what ever adults can go and do what they want- but when it comes to sleaziness like this and Ensign talking about going back to work after he demanded Craig and Clinton resign for much less ( and no payoffs or public funds), it looks bad for the entire state. Time to resign and time for Nevadans to demand it! I hope Nevada elects a GOP or Dem ( actually both parties are nasty but independents have electoral issues) who just gets down to the business of fixing the economy and not telling us about morals ( and then violating them).  (Jul 9, 2009 | post #1)

A visit to Lake Las Vegas

I was in LV earlier this week and found Lake Las Vegas fascinating. Its a great model of boom to bust. Except for a few real estate speculators- bottom feeders, the area was desolate. Some nice buildings - parts of the lake looked good and there were even a few rabbits were there should have been people. Right now an investment here would be foolish. HOA fees are $800 + and could be more as so many units are vacant and in foreclosure. Prices should continue to decline for the next couple of years, but one day it could be viable. Much of this is true for any LV condo investment. Any thoughts-experienc es?  (Jun 12, 2009 | post #1)

I Want to Know: Why is it trashy?

Rockport as a tourist town - will get a bit more trash. Many who visit don't care as much about what they leave outside. My neighborhood Bahia Bay - Palm Harbor is immaculate - even the lawns - except ours is the worst. Its mostly retired people. There are other dog shelters in our county aside from the DOG POUND NEW you really are NEW. Go to Petfinders.com "looking for love" is one of them.  (May 29, 2009 | post #5)

Yes let me donate this duck to the waterpark! Actually I gave it back to its original owner because she had two other ducks the same age, and ducks are social animals. The park can probably have all three. I then got my little girl a rescue dog from the pound- sort of a sad abused little doggie but we have high hopes for her.  (May 19, 2009 | post #22)

You do not make up the procedures - nor do I. You can not decide on your own that you follow procedures when in fact you did not take the step necessary to bring this to the board. That's why we all volunteer our time - to make our schools better. I'm sorry but procedures unfortunately are important- people deserve a fair trial ( or why not just shoot anyone we think is a criminal?). Had you taken it to the board -we would have listened to BOTH sides and made a fair decision. We could then use that decision to affect future policy. We have changed policy just based on people coming to the board- the last time was the "food fight" issue. you say I ignore the issue but you A, Didn't follow the procedures to get hear B Never attended a meeting yet you claim we wouldn't do anything C Didn't vote in the board election- if you believe this board wouldn't do nothing even though you have never been at a meeting - you could have helped 3 challengers get elected - maybe they would do something. Or perhaps you believe that no one will ever do anything... just like yourself. Why does this upset me? Because I volunteer hours every week to help the schools I myself have changed policies allowing people to ask financial and budget questions- changing contract policy. And what do we get for it ? Most people don't seem too keen on North or even downtown. What about the following: A. The area where Boulder meets Charleston? B Oakey right east of the Strip C Oakey west D. If you spoke to the school and including Kim and nothing was done - then the next step after the SUPT is to get it on the school board agenda- a simple letter would do. WE CAN NOT ACT ON OUR OWN - we have have to go through the process. In fact if you were to talk to me and tell me the facts of the case I would NOT be allowed to hear it at the board meeting. Its exactly the same as if someone sees a judge and says MAPARE is selling drugs and she needs to be arrested and jailed right now. There are procedures that need to happen. I did pass the info on to Kim James- but YOU DROPPED THE BALL. At the next meeting we have a hearing about someone whose child was thrown off a team and they did the right thing - they followed the procedures and they will get a full hearing with witnesses. This is something you could have done instead of made it an internet issue. Its just as easy to fill out a one page grievance form as it is to go online and complain. Its exactly because I am an elected official that I expect things done openly and according to procedure and not behind closed doors .. or on the internet under anonymous screen names. You might add to that UNPAID elected official- I do this cause I like our kids and schools. Have you EVER been to a meeting to see what happens? Did you vote in last week's school board election? After they traded back and forth - he decided he would get even by ranting like an idiot. Mapare -My son and daughter go to Rockport Schools. Huey was named US Senate Page from Texas, won the state bar journalism award and this week May 18, 2009 he has the featured letter in TIME MAGAZINE, My little girl just won 1st place in regional writing. Both creamed Gregory Portland when they compeated against them. I was at 3 of the schools today as our educational foundation gave out thousands of dollars in grants for all sorts of projects and a bunch of scholarships for college. Some of the kids have collected over $50k a piece. Our district has been rated "Recognized " by the State ( 2 students short of Exemplary") and one of the top 5 districts in Texas by the HEB Foundation. MAPARE sorry you had a bad experience but you obviously didn't go through the necessary channels to get it fixed as we would have heard about it on the school board. Instead you bitched about it - while being totally vague - on some internet site.  (May 12, 2009 | post #66)
