Lynchburg Shouldn't Name A Highway After Jerry Falwell

First of all, if you think that just because Liberty is a christian university that they do not have immoral students, you are delusional. Secondly, my point was that unless you are willing to commit a felony in order to hurt or get rid of Liberty University, you need to stop complaining about how bad Liberty is because there is nothing you can do about the university being located in Lynchburg, VA.  (Sunday Nov 8 | post #31)

It doesn't matter if you "accept" it or not. The fact is that it exist, and it is in Lynchburg. If you hate it so much, why don't you pack up and move?  (Sep 30, 2009 | post #25)

Lynchburg Shouldn't Name A Highway After Jerry Falwell

Lynchburg is named after John Lynch who founded the town. Lynchburg was chartered in October, 1786, and named after its founder (John Lynch) who not only founded the town, but also helped to make it an important commercial destination through his ferry service (which was actually older than the town itself).  (Sep 30, 2009 | post #24)

American Revolution through British eyes

They were merely wanting the colonists to pay for their half of the Seven Years War (French and Indian War as it is called in the United States) which was fought in North America for the defense of the colonies. The British subjects that resided on the island of Great Britain were being heavily taxed due to the Seven Years War (French and Indian War), and most of that tax money went to the defense of the colonies (troop payment, food for the troops, etc) in the French and Indian War. Prior to the British finally imposing some additional taxes on the colonists for their own defense, the colonists were being defended for free. How is it right that the British mainland subjects were being forced to bear the full brunt of the tax burden when the colonists weren't being taxed at all for their own defense? All the additional taxes were meant to do was to help pay the enormous debt that the British crown had racked up defending the colonist. It is not unreasonable to make the colonists help pay for their defense.  (Sep 28, 2009 | post #3)

Kentucky in the American Civil War

I disagree both with your presupposition inherent in your point, and with your primary point. I do not believe that a civil war will break out any time soon, and especially not upon the same lines that the first one did (if one even does break out again). Secondly, assuming that an exact copy of the first one occurs (which is an impossibility because of the illegality of slavery over the last 144 years in the United States due to the 13th Amendment), I would still hold to the conviction that Kentucky would remain officially Pro-Union just like in the first American Civil War. As stated earlier, an exact copy of the first American Civil War is an impossibility because of the illegality of slavery. I know a plethora of people born in the Southern half of the United States do not enjoy hearing this (honestly, it is like they are little children who cover their ears and scream, "lalalalalala lala I dont believe it" every time this is mentioned", but the primary cause of the American Civil War was slavery. It is even possible to read it in their own words, "Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery - the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product, which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin." That is a quote from the Mississippi Declaration of Causes of Secession. Since slavery no longer exist, it is difficult to foresee a singular cause that anyone could rally behind strong enough to jumpstart another bloody Civil War.  (Sep 28, 2009 | post #3)

The late push for offshore drilling

I love how both liberals and conservatives cannot seem to get over their petty differences for the good of the country. You all do realize how childish you sound with your petty arguing don't you? Why can't you all meet on some sort of middle ground so we can start moving forward? That is just to much to ask though I guess. I am going to love to see how many responses I get from this message saying, "well if the liberals would do this then there wouldn't be a problem" or " if the conservatives would do this then there wouldn't be a problem". My god, you make me want to murder all of you.  (Apr 27, 2009 | post #8)

The late push for offshore drilling

Offshore drilling should be allowed along with searching and applying cleaner forms of energy. We cannot universally apply the cleaner forms of energy overnight, so it only makes sense to keep using gas until we can substitute it for another cleaner, more efficient energy source.  (Apr 27, 2009 | post #7)
