Can you give an example of something that is conscience without being the result of something physical please? That should be a lot easier than proving a god shouldn't it? (Jul 15, 2012 | post #518915)

What I gather is when we use a bit of scripture to show a contradiction in someones behavior on these threads, or if we say something like "How can you worship a god who says you can stone your daughter" and then point to that bit of scripture that says that you guys get confused and think we are annoyed with god. But we are not! We are annoyed at the person who wrote that, annoyed at the reasons they may have written it, annoyed at the way people follow that and mostly annoyed at the way people pretend that some god actually said that. What we are saying is "How can you believe that?" , "How can you worship a god that apparently said these things?". (Jul 9, 2012 | post #517648)
That's what flat earthers said for years. (Jul 9, 2012 | post #517644)
But the bible is so open to interpretation. That's why one sect of christianity can't agree with another. (Jul 9, 2012 | post #517641)
I disagree. When you look at your new born child it's pretty overwhelming for most. It's not a choice. (Jul 9, 2012 | post #517640)
Yes that's fair enough. They key though is them being good parents aside from their religion. (Jul 9, 2012 | post #517635)
It's not my philosophy. But there are many aspects of it I can agree with. (Jul 9, 2012 | post #517632)
Yes, but I think you know what I'm saying. I don't think religion should be pushed on them. They should be able to find their beliefs for themselves. (Jul 9, 2012 | post #517630)
I do always point out to anyone that I don't believe he was a christian. (Jul 9, 2012 | post #517628)
I think it's the best way to be. At the end of the day you can follow any religion and still be the same as anyone else. What I mean by that is, be a human being first. We shouldn't dictate to others what to believe. I feel people forget to accept that religion is just a way of understanding life and the world around them. If they really looked at it hard they would see, if they can cut through the man made red tape, that it mostly eludes to the same thing. There is value in all belief structures in that respect. At the end of the day I'm an atheist but I can see a lot of value in the doctrines and ideals of christ for example. We must follow our own paths. (Jul 9, 2012 | post #517627)
