Insurance companies usually only will pay 7-28 days of treatment. If more treatment is required then the patient would have to utilize a half way or three quarter house, which is an entirely different process and assessments take time. One would have to know what resources are availabe in order to move through the system smoothly and seamleesly. Unfortunately, to be involved in the system and to have access to services, one usually has to end up in jail or a psychiatric facility, then a social worker or a forensics worker would move the person through the system. Yes, it's a shame that the detox program is no longer. However, Pennsylvania (in particular, Pittsburgh) has more inpatient detox programs and intensive outpatient programs than many states. That's good news. There are places for addicts to go, they just have to be aware of what programs exist.  (Oct 27, 2009 | post #5)
