Who was the the worst President and Why?

Heh, it's okay, BS. I never denied being a little loony. Kind of have to be, to do what I do. I mean, how many people can say they've been repeatedly bodily thrown across rooms and had human bites for $10.25/hr, and still do the job (and have done so for more than 8 years now)? Eh, I'm the family mishuggenah.  (7 hrs ago | post #48)

On the flip side, I *had* to go on SCI, because I am one of the "lucky" uninsurables. I can't even buy insurance anymore, none of the legitimate insurers are even willing to sell to me. I am 29, and the last time I was even able to buy insurance, I was paying about $500/month for me, myself, and I, for basic coverage, due to my medical history. I know many people who are paying less than that for whole family plans. There is no easy way to fix it, everyone knows that. But we also all know that the system is extremely broken as-is.  (10 hrs ago | post #46)

Will YOU shop on Black-Friday?

We went a little later in the morning, got another blu-ray player, and a couple of new digital cameras, since I like to have a cheap one in the car for if I ever need/want to take a picture.  (17 hrs ago | post #8)

What is the most pointless, stupid, idiotic invention made by man?

Cash for Clunkers

I've got an old '89 GMC Jimmy (S-15, the small one) that the tranny went on (it's a non-world class B&W T-5, that should say why right there...) I am probably going to do a solid axle swap, using a set of Dana 44's out of an old Jeep Wagoneer (right size, front diff on the passenger side), and do a Cummins 4BT/NV4500 swap into. On 33-35" tires, most people are still getting 25MPG with that setup. The 4BT is the same as the 6BT, with two fewer pistons. It's a 3.9L 4-popper diesel that makes 130 HP and 355 lbs at stock, and works with the turbos that Dodge used. I've seen a few making more than 200 HP and in the 430 lbs range that still get 20MPG. When I have the time and money, of course.  (Thursday Nov 26 | post #11)

We use it for heavy hauling. I'd love to get the fuel economy of a diesel (the then-current diesel GM had was the 6.2L Detroit, which would have gotten about 15MPG), but real-world cost-benefit analysis show that you have to go to about 300,000 miles before you recoup the extra initial cost, and the extra maintenance costs. It's doable, since diesel engines tend to last a lot longer (the Cummins 6bt Dodge used for years, for example, is generally regarded as a million-mile engine), but for most people, it takes a lot longer than one would think. That said, swapping in a used diesel engine is always an option (and often a more cost-effective one at that), but I don't have the funds to do it at the moment.  (Thursday Nov 26 | post #9)

Heh, we do have a decom patrol Suburban from White Sands. Still has it's ID numbers in the windshield. Non-civi 454 HO, TH400 and 4.10 posi rear. It's a rocket, but all said, it's good for about 4MPG.  (Thursday Nov 26 | post #5)

Humor

CD, I'm reminded of one of my rescued cockatoos (my mid-late 50's Moluccan), and what she thinks must be my happy sound. I was sick one day several years back with a nasty stomach bug, and she heard me, err, praying before the porcelain altar. Probably because it was the loudest thing she'd heard me "say," she seems to have thought it was a happy sound. So much so, that she has decided to "say" it as one of her happy sounds. I have actually had to tell government personnel (I contract with the state) over the phone, "No, it's okay, the one vomiting is not sick. No, she's actually quite happy right now."  (Thursday Nov 26 | post #10)

The majority of us who took advantage of the program didn't get high-end models. I know plenty of people who got Kia's, Chevy Aveo's (made by Daewoo), and (what I got) Nissan Versa's. I have a payment of $164/month, which was including adding in AC and an automatic (had to do the latter, since it was all they had with AC), which added $2000 to the base $10K price.  (Thursday Nov 26 | post #3)

Event quietly protests abortion

Based on my interpretation of your posts, I'd be willing to bet I have an IQ considerably higher than yours, but that is neither here nor there. In 7th grade, I was hand-picked by Johns Hopkins, as a part of a very small group of gifted students in New York, to take the SATs. Not only did I pass, I passed with higher scores than the average senior in high school here "earns." I also have an eidetic memory, as tested by Johns Hopkins as well. All of this is easily provable, should you decide not to believe me based on the simple fact you disagree with my opinion. But again, neither here nor there. Call me ignorant to your belief system; apathetic to your causes; akin to what you feel is representative to what is wrong with the world, whatever you desire. But don't call me a fool.  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #1776)

Free Speech, Freedom Of Expression, Prayer, and God

I'm not the one who said it. If you want a different message to come out than that which you presented about admitting to inciting violence, present a different message.  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #134)

Council OKs apartments despite opposition

Just remember what Thomas McClenaghan, the retired special agent in charge of the FBI Albuquerque field office, said on New Mexico after he heard Special Agent In Charge Rob Grant of the Chicago FBI field office says this on Illinois: "If it isn't the most corrupt state in the United States, it is certainly one hell of a competitor," Here's what McClenaghan had to say: "All I can say is Special Agent In Charge Rob Grant never worked in New Mexico." He also said this: "We just felt that it may be hard to convict anyone in this state,"  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #5)
