Is China's Economy Speeding Off the Rails?

I agree - the Chinese companies are mostly building products to spec, and those specs come from non-Chinese companies. Food safety is another matter since food exports are generally Chinese companies, but for things like strollers, toasters, all the millions of things we westerners often say "cheap Chinese goods" about, it's actually "cheap western goods."  (Tuesday Dec 22 | post #56)

Woeser: The 2008 Transformation

(Did 2008 matter? Obviously many of us feel, "How could it not," but Woeser goes futher, suggesting 2008 was a turning point for Tibetans inside Tibet, perhaps as important as the 1959 Uprising.) “Having been through the events of 2008 that shook the world, Tibet is no longer the Tibet of the past, and the Tibetan people are no longer the Tibetan people of the past – everything has undergone a genuine transformation. If one pretends to be aloof and indifferent and thinks that blood can just be washed away and that the truth can be covered over; or that atrocities will not be condemned and suffering will not be pondered; if one acts as though nothing ever happened and thinks life goes on as before and the sun will rise as ever, this is just self-deception….. Tibetans are breaking through the silence, and there are more and more instances of these voices being bravely raised, encouraging ever more Tibetans.” ~ Woeser, "Like Gold That Fears No Fire" http://www.savetib et.org/files/docum ents/Like%20Gold.p df (Professor Tsering Shakya's compares Woeser's to that of the late Russian dissident writer, Solzhenitsyn, saying: "It is the duty of courageous writers to speak of the unspeakable and lift the veil from the dark corners where horror is hidden...The events of March 2008 created a new memory and it will be narrated from generation to generation. Today, memory is no longer hidden...but advertised in cyberspace to share with the rest of the world - and in this respect Woeser occupies a unique position as chronicler of modern Tibetan memory. Her blog [and writings] have become the voice of Tibet.")  (Monday Dec 21 | post #1)

South Tibet or Arunachal Pradesh

Everybody thinks there was only an uprising in 1987, but in fact there was a huge one in 1988 as well. The people have had enough, as you can see. The 2005 "crackdown mentality" has backfired completely, and you can see it clearly among farmers, evicted citizens, and of course in the occupied territories. Farmers and evicted will eventually stay where they are because they are Chinese; they will continue on to support China in some way. Maybe by voting for Charter 08. Tibetans and Uyghurs however are not Chinese and never will be. They will never give up until they are free; if it takes 100 years, it takes 100 years. They have already fought for 60 years. Do you really think they will stop? The Chinese occupation government is only getting worse; it's now rapidly becoming like the bad old days of 1970; soon it will be like 1960 and then everyone will rise up. This rotten Party has killed enough people; it's time for change.  (Saturday Dec 19 | post #579)

The cruelty of CCP soldiers is beyond belief. Just for trying to escape Tibet, refugees are forced to hold scalding water in their hands. Unbelievably high numbers of young women are sterilized by force. The so-called "soldiers " are corrupt as hell; as poor as the refugees are, nonetheless the "soldiers " take whatever pitiful little money or belongings the refugee has. Sick, sick, sick. I can't call these real soldiers.  (Saturday Dec 19 | post #578)

Tibet has nothing to do with China. Do you understand? Tibet and China are neighbours. That's it. Tibet doesn't want China's occupation; occupying an area of dirt doesn't make it yours. Iraq is not the USA; Tibet is not China. Tibet is not an "internal problem" of China. Tibet is a foreign occupation. Tibetans are not Chinese, and never will be. Tibetans don't force Chinese to be Tibetans; so don't be obsessed with forcing Tibetans to be Chinese. It will never happen.  (Saturday Dec 19 | post #577)

China's Military Buildup Offensive to America

Look, use it all you want. Just saying that if a subsumed region requires you to be in a semi-permanent state of war within your own borders, one might reconsider whether the money and manpower is better spent elsewhere  (Friday Dec 18 | post #130)

China's Military Buildup Offensive to America

China's High Speed Railway >350 km/h From Guangzhou To Hebei

You'd progress faster without Tibet. It costs to much in many ways, not to mention a huge portion of the military budget now has to be spent there. Plus, the war with India that will start as a result of sharing the border will be even more costly. The money would be far better used on China proper; otherwise internal rioting from Lanzhou eastward could also destablise it. Instead of using the money to try and control a vast, inhospitable Buddhist nation, use the money to keep actual Chinese happier and less likely to riot  (Friday Dec 18 | post #97)

China's Military Buildup Offensive to America

There are far more than 1 mil. Unless you don't consider Laogai to be prisons, lmao. Some Laogai regions are even listed in the commerce and industry reports, because their output (of products) is so huge. Looking at land mass, output, and energy consumption (and food bills), all that info adds up to many millions in jail  (Thursday Dec 17 | post #79)

G.M. Is Said to Agree to Sell Stakes to China Partner

So it would have been better for the USA to just let Japan rule Asia, right? Instead of throwing so much of our own blood on the ground and in the sea, we could have just stayed home and been peaceful  (Thursday Dec 17 | post #215)
