Letter to the Editor: Borough council is most to blame

Because there was no grounds to "stand up" to him! Also: this argument really has nothing to do with veterans. The council needs to uphold the law, which was being broken by allowing the creche to be placed there in the first place! They did the right thing. Be happy the creche was there (illegally) for so many years. Now you can enjoy the creche in front of a church, or the apparent storefronts that will have one now.  (3 hrs ago | post #3)

Chambersburg hunter takes 600-pound bear in Fulton County

Side note: I've watched hunting shows on TV. It's actually pretty interesting, how they follow the animals around and krap. Very nice scenery, very cool getting to see animals in their habitat. Very nice, relaxing, and quiet shows. This is of course until they finally shoot whatever it is they're looking for, then they run up to the dead animal, fighting the urge to hoot and holler like a redneck, then comment on how beautiful the recently dead animal is, aaaaaaand commercial break.  (4 hrs ago | post #48)

Chambersburg hunter takes 600-pound bear in Fulton County

Let's see...get up at 4 a.m., put on your camo, head out to the woods, stalk vewwy vewwy quietwy through the woods to an area where you know deer (or whatever your quarry may be), find a good place to hide for 4 or 5 hours (preferably from a high vantage point, like a tree), put some deer **** in the vicinity (or on your clothes...yea!), and....wait. Wait for an unsuspecting animal to walk by, and...shoot it. Man, lotta skill involved there. Quite the exercise in patience. I politely excluded any mention of Busch. Did you notice that?  (4 hrs ago | post #47)

Apparently sarcasm isn't your strong suit (I'll also give you the benefit of the doubt and assume the way you spelled "majority " was a typo), as my mentioning of factory farms was just that. Killing an animal is killing an animal, whether you torture it first in a factory or shoot it in the woods with a high-powered rifle. It's all well and good that you teach hunter safety classes, and I get the mention of the insurance and all...but I'm not ignorant. The population control argument is weak. Maybe if we didn't feel the need to build new shopping centers when we have empty ones rotting already, or new sprawling subdivisions, etc. that encroach on wildlife habitats, there wouldn't be such a problem with animal populations. It's also highly doubtful that the "magority " of hunters you mention have anything altruistic in mind when they're doing it. It's a "sport." I will never understand how one can apparently "enjoy nature" while killing it. Hiking is great. Why can't you just...go for a hike and enjoy nature? It's so antithetical; "Ah man, it's so beautiful out in the woods today. I feel so in touch with nature and my surroundings...hey , look at that bear over there! It's so majestic and beautiful! What a creature! shh shh shh! *BANG!!!* Sweet, now I get to take home my own little piece of nature and spread its fur out on the floor of my new mcmansion that sits where this bear used to live."  (4 hrs ago | post #46)

Letter to the Editor: Nativity symbolic of what's inside us

Right, because if there isn't a God to believe in, there's NOTHING to believe in! You might want to look up the definition of atheism. You can't have convictions without GOD, can you?! Simple-minded buffoon...  (5 hrs ago | post #16)

Letter to the Editor: Boro undermines Christianity

Actually, in this case, Christiana undermined the law, and the Council properly rectified the situation. Move on. Don't let the removal of a hunk of plastic ruin the holiday you're so apparently devoutly dedicated to. No one is saying you're not allowed to practice your faith...you're just not allowed to demonstrate that faith on government property. It's a really, really simple concept that most Americans embrace, and it's the concept the religion not be mixed in with government. It's sorta one of the tenets this nation was founded on...  (5 hrs ago | post #1)

Chambersburg's downtown receives boycott threats over creche

"We had nothing to do with the nativity being moved ... so I don't see why anyone would blame us." I've got your answer: ignorance and stupidity.  (5 hrs ago | post #1)

You were "almost" in shock? Must not have been very shocking, then. Nice revisionist history too, saying "they fought for our freedom AND faith." No they didn't. They fought for our freedom (debatably). Not our faith. America has not fought a war in defense of Christianity. No one's, NO ONE'S, freedom was infringed upon here. You can enjoy the creche as it sits in front of the church, fifty feet away from the government owned property it was illegally placed up on before. There's practically a church on every corner in Chambersburg...Chr istianity is obviously alive and well. Just take a drive around town and it's obvious...we get it...there are a lot of Christians. Christians just WISH they were persecuted. Sorry, but you're not.  (5 hrs ago | post #1)

EXTREMELY well said! I think Mr. Silverman is coming off like a huge jerk, but I respect him immensely for sticking his neck out there for what he believes in.  (13 hrs ago | post #10)

Just the facts," eh? Do you know for a fact that every Council member is a Christian? Did you also know, for a fact, that it was illegal for the creche to be there in the first place? Here's a couple more facts: there's a church 50 feet away. Put the creche there. If your faith can be so severely shaken by the removal of a plastic buddy Christ, then how strong was it to begin with? I drove through the square a few minutes ago, and it looked very pleasant with the lights and wreaths. Quit complaining, what's done is done, and the council made the absolute right decision. All or nothing, and they chose nothing, the way it should have been in the first place.  (14 hrs ago | post #142)

Hey, 34 year USMC vet, for spending so much time in the military you seem to know very little about those freedoms you were supposedly protecting for so long.  (14 hrs ago | post #141)

So the Taliban and Al Qaeda AREN'T religious fanatics who have corrupted the government in those countries? The government in Iran that just killed it's citizens for rebelling ISN'T dictated by Muslim clerics? The Israelis and Palestinians AREN'T fighting over differences in religion (technically they're fighting over territory...but it's territory each side's religion proclaims ownership of)? Is that what you mean to tell me?  (19 hrs ago | post #127)

It's also so very ironic the people on here that are saying "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, MOVE TO ANOTHER COUNTRY!" Guess what, there are other countries where religious dogma rules everything (like some of you are suggesting it should be here!), and the people aren't very happy! Why do you think there's a revolution in Iran every 20 years! Why are we fighting the FRIGGING TALIBAN?! Why are Israel and Palestine always fighting! Because religion rules everything in that part of the world!  (20 hrs ago | post #116)
