New steakhouse coming to Malone

Wonderful to see a new business getting ready to open, however with the prices of fuel and groceries i hope they understand what they are getting into. Not going to be easy, most food suppliers now are tacking on a fuel delivery fee, and it all adds up. I do agree that Malone needs some options for dining out though, and when i go up i will be interested in going in and seeing what it is all about.  (May 31, 2008 | post #2)

Counties take closer look at DMV staff

I think it is a good idea to do these back ground checks and fingerprints on the employees, should have been done in the first place. If it was asked on the application many years ago when some were hired then why would they have been hired if the record contained a felony conviction? Makes no sense to me, so either the question was asked and not checked into before the process of being hired. Or it wasn't asked at all on the application. So why then would it now be fair for a person or persons to be let go from the postion that they currently hold just because of the states error or errors in the past application process? I understand that we have to intrust ppl with important jobs and we want the best for that job, but it is to late to punish someone from the past after they have held the position, and especially in these hard times, ppl can not afford to be out of wk, hell we can't afford to be working either. Just sounds like this new policy has the potential to be a huge mess. We have the holgram on our DL's now, and they don't cost 85 dollars, i think the last time i went it was about 50 dollars or so, and is good for several years at a time.  (May 31, 2008 | post #2)

Doctors: FEMA Trailer Kids May Have Health Woes

Driggs are you serious?! I don't think this has anything to do with law suits, it has to do with rite and wrong and a family of say 6 should not have to live in a two bedroom trailer, and yes this is happening, Dateline. Also a lot of these children were healthy before they moved into the FEMA trailers! So what do you think should happen, let them suffer due to our lovely governments screw ups?! No body in this country deserves to live like that, with or without haveing gone through a disaster. If the United States doesn't wake up we will quickly find ourselves a third world country, and since we are busy helping everyone elses people around the world, the Americans are going to be out on the streets, unemployed, and hungry, not to mention all the other things that comes with being a thirld world country. So i would ask you to please think about your view here, even though it may just seem like FEMA issues, it in my eyes goes way beyond this issue at hand. Our country needs change and in a hurry.  (May 28, 2008 | post #68)

Meals on Wheel drivers recognized for service

Great program!I actually work at social services in NC in the Meals On Wheels program, if not for the ppl who give time to deliver the meals then we wouldn't have the program. Thanks to all in Malone who keep it running for the ppl in the North country area.7184  (May 15, 2008 | post #1)

North Country Animal Shelter Fundraiser

Wonderful idea!!! Everyone needs to get with this program and raise as much money as needed since lets face it we all know that the unwanted animal problem is not going to get any better. Nor is the problem with the pet owners not getting the pets fixed so unwanted animals are not being taken into the shelter on a daily basis.Good Luck with the fundraiser  (May 4, 2008 | post #2)

Brushton-Moira to cut cheerleading, Odyssey team

Okay i understand the need to save in everyway possible, but lets think about this for a minute. No computers for the students for another year, doesn't sound like a very good idea to hold back students learning abilities, since i have seen the test scores for the school on line, public can look this up for any school, google search. Odyssey of the minds and cheering, come on thats only cutting about 5000.00 total, what will that pay for really?! Hey i guess the students who don't have those programs to keep them busy can just roam the empty streets of Brushton and find someone to pick on, rob, beat, and or turn to drugs. Teaching jobs, mixed feelings here, if they really don't have enough student numbers to have those two positions then fine they should be eliminated, and from what i remember when i went there we didn't even have 1000 students. Now as far as the buses go, i don't think you can get used because this is the lives of the children and drivers, and you need to keep everyone safe, this falls to the school system and county, otherwise they are setting themselves up for potential problems, maybe even legal issues if an accident happened.  (May 4, 2008 | post #3)

Bush says rebates going out Monday should help economy

If my family gets a check i can assure you it will NOT support gas companies!! I would encourage people to save it, because it is going to get worse before it can even begin to get better. Maybe use it for a house payment and for some people it may cover more than one payment. I don't agree with this plan, it isn't going to help the economy in the long run, however we could all move to another country to get our jobs back!! Then they wouldn't have to worry about this economy, they could all sit on Capitol Hill and play screw each other instead of all the American taxpayers!! I have totally lost all faith in our countrys govt.  (Apr 26, 2008 | post #394)

Bicentennial parade is taking a bumpy path

LOL, well i am outspoken and am not afraid to voice my thoughts. However no jobs in Malone to bring me back to the area. I actually grew up in Brushton where my father was on the board of trustees for the village. I would love to go up and put a boot in someones butt to get the show on the road so to speak. Why is everyone afraid to do and or say anything? We live in a democracy, no one should hold back on expressing thoughts, views, emotions,etc... about the town and what goes on in it, afterall they live and pay taxes in the county.  (Apr 16, 2008 | post #8)

Polygamist sect gets millions from U.S. government

Leave them alone, unless there is harm, what the hell where have you been this past week or so? Did you not read, or hear of the 416 children who have been saved from these sick people? They have been raped, beaten and forced into marriage with cousins, stepfaters, and men three times there age!! Does this not constitute harm in your eyes?  (Apr 15, 2008 | post #324)

Polygamist sect gets millions from U.S. government

What ever happened to seperation of church and state? Let me get this right, the children in our american school system can't pray with teachers and classmates. Which may very well be the only real "family" prayer time they have in a days time. However it is okay for our tax dollars to go to these so called religious group, who thinks it is okay to mistreat women, and children? How stupid is this, does our government ever need a wake up call. All that money could have been invested in a lot of other more important things in the country in need. Perhaps they should have set it aside for all the the welfare cases that i am certain will come up with in the next year or so as more people lose jobs, and more lose homes and have no where to work or stay. So hold on taxpayers, it is going to get much worse no matter who gets elected to office this time around he or she has a big, big mess to try to clean up, and i am sure that they will carry alot of critisism for the first term they serve. Good luck to the winner, i don't envy him or her at all, would want the job for all the money in the country, oh sorry we have none, seems it is going to another country and helping to kill our people!!  (Apr 15, 2008 | post #323)

Ottawa to pay farmers $50-million to slaughter hogs

This is the worst thing i have ever heard, i hope that the farmers band together on this one and say NO!! When are people going to stand up and say we can not be bought!! It is these little things that we have all sat back and allowed to happen that has gotten all of us in the trouble we are now in. What does the govt want, for no one to be able to afford to live and eat?! So what if the price is down, just means with all the others prices high, this is one source of meat that families can feed there children! Thats right we have to think about the children in this world too, i mean if the parents cant buy food, gas, heating fuel, how the hell are these kids going to grow up healthy and become productive parts of the communities? Because lord knows, we can't afford health insurance for them!!!  (Apr 15, 2008 | post #216)

Bicentennial parade is taking a bumpy path

Leslie your location is Malone? Do you know someone that knows these people, or do you know them personally? Either way maybe you could get involved with this project, seems it would be a great event to get yourself involved in, and would maybe boost the peoples moral in the town, maybe then some pride would be taken in Malone. It only takes one to start the path to better things. I would encourage you and all your friends and family to start it, and challenge others, from friends, family, local business owners and county seat holders, to get there hands dirty it that is what it takes to pull this event together and see it be a great success.  (Apr 15, 2008 | post #6)

Malone eyesore cited for 246 code violations

For the county to take over the run down buildings sounds like an okay idea at first glance. However when thought about, does it really make good financial sense, to have to first take it and lose the tax revenue? Second, then it becomes the residential taxpayers problem to keep up this one time business use building.Maybe in any other county in any other state even this process may work, however in Franklin County i am not so sure this would benefit anyone. Even if the county obtained it and had it torn down, this to would be costly, all be it much quicker a process then dealing with the current owner it seems. He should be given a deadline as to when he can bring it up to code or have it taken down, also with a deadline.Without the deadlines he could drag this out for as long as he wants this would not be oaky. I think a year would be more than enough time to do what needs to be accomplished.  (Apr 15, 2008 | post #3)
