Who should be the NEW Sheriff?

Everyone keeps suggesting an "outsider ", but to run for Sheriff, you have to be a resident of the county for 2 years, right? And, it has to be your actual home, not just a summer home or vafcation home. Or do you mean someone who wasn't born in TC? If so, are there any such people that live there now? (i.e. retired GBI/FBI, law enforcement, etc)  (Aug 24, 2007 | post #89)

Towns County is in the dark ages

A good commissioner could do a lot for TC. A recreational park for the kids (and the moms and dads too) would be a great asset. Meeks Park in Blairsville has ballfields (baseball, soccer, & football), a skateboard park, basketball court, batting cages, walking trail, covered pavilions, picnic tables, swings, and an outdoor playground. It would be nice to see something like that added to TC. It could be a progression. Meeks Park didn't start out with all that. Things were added as needed and afforded.  (Aug 22, 2007 | post #10)

Roach 4 Sheriff!

So you're saying "Vote for him. He wasn't great, or even that good, but he wasn't as bad as the last guy"? That's your logic? One of your selling points is that he hired deputies who were "mostly stand up guys"? (And, uh, I'd have to disagree with that statement anyway.) Why can't Towns County have a sheriff with integrity, backbone, and dedication? Doesn't Towns County deserve it?  (Aug 22, 2007 | post #5)

Two NE Ga lawmen are behind bars

Thanks for the correction. It seems the Dept. of Corrections needs to correct their site. But, it's still irrelevant to the discussion of the corruption in Towns County and how to solve it. What's troubling is that you have RE saying, "I must confess to my friends and neighbors, the citizens of Towns County who have given me the high honor of electing me as their Sheriff, that I have failed them _ and for that I sincerely apologize and ask for their forgiveness," and "My actions in entering this plea are meant to let the people of Towns County know that, as their sheriff, I do now _ and always have _ respected the rule of law. ... The law does not play favorites and is to be obeyed by all." But, the report by the governor's panel says, ""His comments on doing it again and his lack of remorse are reflective of disdain and contempt for the law and those who seek to enforce it." http://www.accessn orthga.com/news/ap _newfullstory.asp? ID=96623 It would be interesting to read the whole report by the panel. Does anyone know where that could be found?  (Aug 22, 2007 | post #1057)

Ummm... not that it's really important, but the prison in Alto is an all-male facility: http://www.dcor.st ate.ga.us/GDC/Faci lityMap/html/arren dale_state_prison. html Check your facts next time before you try to discredit OT. ;)  (Aug 20, 2007 | post #982)

Warrants Issued for Towns Co. Sheriff

I think we need to focus on how to change Towns County for the better, not who belongs to which political party. It's going to take people voting for the best person regardless of political party to get someone in there that will make a difference.  (Aug 19, 2007 | post #353)

Deer Season September 8th

I know lots of people that are looking forward to deer season. Not just for sport, but to fill up their freezer with meat for the winter. In fact, I don't know anyone who hunts and doesn't use the meat. If someone's freezer is full, there's always another family that can use free meat.  (Aug 19, 2007 | post #6)

If she is truly sorry and repents, then why hasn't she offered a REFUND to those that bought her fake designer merchandise? Store credit is not what people want or deserve. Why have charges not been pressed against her for selling counterfeit merchandise?  (Aug 19, 2007 | post #399)

Living in Union County/Blairsville

I grew up in Towns County and moved to Union County when I got married. I have never lived outside the Towns/Union area. Is that "Native" enough? Yes, I've had "Outsiders " snigger and laugh at how quaint we are. I've heard comments about the way I talk. But, I've also heard and seen nice things done by "Transplants ". The lady who volunteers for the neighborhood recycling duty in our neighborhood is from away, and is the nicest person you will meet. She gives every Wednesday morning for her new home. I'm sure that's not all she does. On the other hand, I see examples of rudeness from other "Locals" every day! There are good ones and bad ones in both groups. Where you were born does not dictate what kind of person you will be. A lot of people will gripe because of the change the "Outsiders " want. Well, locals want change too. We want positive change, just like the "Transplants " who have moved their families here. The change that I've seen that is so negative (in my eyes) is the construction on the mountains and the hundreds (or so it seems) of new sub-divisions. Primariliy, that seems to be being done by locals. Don't judge a person by where they come from. Judge a person by their deeds, not someone else's.  (Aug 19, 2007 | post #36)

Sheriff cracks down on dope

Sheriff cracks down on dope Tip leads to search warrant, drug arrests at Piney Road residence. By Frank Bradley Acting on tips from Clay County residents who are fed up with illegal drug activity and want to see the law come down hard on drug dealers and users, the sheriff's deputies and officers from the multi-county drug task force made five arrests last week. On Friday, acting on a neighborhood tip, they conducted a search of a residence on Piney Road, where they found 7 grams of Methamphetamine, 3 1/2 pounds of Marijuana, an indoor grow room containing approximately ten growing Marijuana plants, and a quantity of unknown pills believed to be Ecstasy. Time for some changes

If you are a resident of Towns County, how can you be an outsider? It's going to take "locals" and "outsiders " working together to make a change.  (Aug 18, 2007 | post #12)

I agree, ILuvCincy! I wish people could stop looking at each other as "Local" or "Outsiders " and start looking at each other as neighbors.  (Aug 18, 2007 | post #33)

Union Co Sheriff's Dept?

Well, the deputies get paid more than the firefighters, despite county governances that state they must be paid the same. So...  (Aug 18, 2007 | post #11)

Eddie Osborne is a grown man. He --and he alone-- is responsible for his actions. He chose to break the law, which he promised to uphold. His wife didn't hold a gun to his head and make him go do it. Do you think he will go to court and say, "Well, yeah I shot up that house and could have killed some people, but my wife was cheating on me, again." and it will be alright? Yes, she broke her marriage vows, but he broke the vows he made to the public he promised to serve *and* he broke the law. Worse yet, this is apparently not the first time he's broken the law.  (Aug 16, 2007 | post #257)
