Do Ethiopian Women Feel Forced to Date Within Their Own Race?
The second part of this post is ok, but the first part is just using racism to define all black people. By that I mean you assume that ethiopians should have common cause with the decendents of west africa who were kidnapped soley because they look the same. You imply that they are the same but they are not. Ethiopia has it's cultures, and west africans have their cultures, just as different as Italians are from Greeks are from Spaniards are from Germans (etc.). Blacks in the US have their cultures too, and they aren't related to ethiopians at all. It would make more sence, culturally, for AAs to intermarry with whites, latinos and other americans before they married Ethiopians, and it would make more sense culturally for an ethiopian to marry a Sudanese, Egyptian or Yemeni than it would to marry an AA. Culture and language are so much more important than superficial traits like skin colour and hair texture. Afterall, if we made judgement on marital fitness based on outward appearance only, we would be sitting here arguing that Indians and Ethiopians don't marry enough, nevermind AAs and Ethiopians. As for the second part of your post, you're right to point out that all cultures produce their fair share of terrible people. However, you have to appreciate the lense that diasporra communities look at AAs through. Ethiopians, like any group of more recent immigrants, tend to be insular, and negatives within a community would stand out in their eyes. So when they see the abomination that is contemporary rap/hip-hop culture (and i say this as someone who owns plenty of said culture), and the hypersexualized and hyperviolent aspects of it, they recoil. They recoil in much the same manner as more conservative people do, and they notice the same things. Afterall, violence and sexuality are scary things for most people to deal with (though I think people should just relax with the latter). Another thing you need to consider is that Ethiopians, again like other recent groups of immigrants, are much more upwardly mobile than AAs. There are a myriad of sociological factors that explain why this is so, but the fact is that it is true. What this means is the guy you see driving a cab has 3 kids in line for scholarships at decent post-secondary schools, and this happens much more often for guys like him than it does for AAs. Therefore, a lot of Ethios look at AAs with the attitude of "look we can come up with nothing, why can't you" and they answer that with "its because of your behaviour that you're going to stay down. Again, complex things contribute the plight of the black man/woman in north america, but most of us aren't sociologists, and therefore most of us see symptoms of problems as the real problem rather than possible underlying causes. Do Ethiopian Women Feel Forced to Date Within Their Own Race?
The more liberalized a culture, the less of an issue interracial or inter-cultural dating is. I agree though that the enslaved angle is kind of bogus. what's really being asked is "why won't they date me" (Thursday Dec 17 | post #15)
Do Ethiopian Women Feel Forced to Date Within Their Own Race?
People from all cultures face this pressure to some extent. All cultures explore it too which is why jewish comedians will talk about pressure from their mothers to date within their culture, or why i got accosted on the streets of the bronx for standing with a female black friend of mine. Man shackles girl with dogs for 18 years
There is nothing congruent about their lives. The analogy may be well intended, but there are no points of contact. Meskerem is being cared for by a mother who gave her up for adoption 2 decades ago, and now has her back in much worse condition than when she left. Helen Keller was someone who was born with handicaps, and taught one on one to communicate. Nothing about the other is the same. Maybe she can become independant but its going to take help, and she's not living in the land of plenty. (Monday Dec 14 | post #72)

thats not the same thing. Helen Keller had disabilities and needed someone to find a way to teach her to communicate. the ability to learn language is after all deeply rooted in our minds. Her teacher brought to life what was part of Helen as a Human. Meskerem's case is different. She very likely knows how to talk, though i doubt she can read very well. Her problem is that she likely can trust no-one she meets, and also would suffer constant flashbacks and other after affects of PTSD from her torture. through care and kindness she may be able to make some progress on some of these issues, though who's to say how much (PTSD is very persistant). I would imagine though that she would never be able to trust a man enough to ever enter into an interpersonal relationship. Also, I think that it would be difficult for her to learn some of the skills necessary to function on her own, i.e. finishing school, getting a job. Her formative years, and nearly her entire existence has been an experience of helplessness in the face of constant physical psychological and sexual torture. No one here can relate to her in anyway. We may choose to help but her condition is beyond empathy. (Thursday Dec 10 | post #68)
Worthless Ethiopian Maid Set Free From Her Arab Masters.
The pakistanis accepted it, as per your own statement from earlier on. I don't think the laws in Dubai are like that as much matters are just dropped to save face when possible. Im sure the statutes prescribe the death penalty for such crimes. (Wednesday Dec 9 | post #53)

That's terrible. Especially in this instance where blood money essentially financed another victim (Wednesday Dec 9 | post #51)

I think the fact that you can pay yoru way out of such crimes is more a comment on how shitty Emritees can be to their servants than how their servants are. (Tuesday Dec 8 | post #39)
Man shackles girl with dogs for 18 years
the pictures were taken by my friends brother and emailed to me, so i have no link. What can be seen is that her back is hunched over like someone much older than she is. her hair is short in an an afro (like 2 inches long). her face is heavily scarred and very uneven looking if you know what i mean (it looks like one side is swollen, but i think thats just how she looks). Apparently, her hands are quite damaged too, but I can't see that in the pictures I have. Im trying to get some newspaper articles about her so that I can share them, although they would be PDFs and I'm sure they would be in Amharic, so someone on here who can read it can translate. No, and I doubt she will ever get the counselling she needs. I think turning her into a semi-functioning adult will be an issue. I've been told she's been profiled in local news (which we don't get). My contact sent me photographs of her, which were pretty sad. (Monday Dec 7 | post #57)

I think I've found the woman (she's not a girl at this point). I put my significant other on the case. She works at a USAID station in Addis, and I asked her to see if she could find out something about the location of the girl. Her name is Meskerem, and from what i can see from her photos, she looks like someone who is both physically scarred and aged from the ordeal as well as being a not too trusting soul. I think I'll keep you all abreast of what her situation is as i hear more. Right now all I know is that she's 25 and doesn't speak too much. (Friday Dec 4 | post #55)
what the difference between occupation and colonization ?
The italians couldn't stay because they collapsed with the other Axis powers. Those that tried to stay would have been murdered. that doesn't tell us what happened economically in the occupation period. (Friday Dec 4 | post #43)
