The reason that bikes got popular was high gas prices. Fuel in Holland is pretty wxpensive. The oil companies have been making record profits while everyone else has been sliding down the tube. Petroleum providers have a right to price their product so as to produce maximum profit, too bad that calculation includes keeping competitive technologies from getting a foothold.  (May 14, 2009 | post #2)

Just like that 3 $ battery recycling fee you pay when you buy a car battery. Where did it go? It sure ain't recycling old batteries. 40 years ago I used to regularly commute via bicycle on the Aiea/Pearl Harbor portion of the bike path. It was sure nice to get separated from traffic. Especially when there is zero shoulder on the roads. We have all had the experience of standing by the curb and having a truck or bus whoosh by inches from your nose. The transportation division in this state inherited a system of donkey paths and their brains are still stuck in donkey mode. Quaint, but not very useful.  (May 12, 2009 | post #2)

My worst vice is reading. Should be doing chores , but got my nose stuck in a book. In this case a Sony reader I bought when they first came out.One consequence of not having to go out and physically get books is that I am getting pretty fat. Terrible for the family, so sudden and unexpected. The immune system that protects us against these bacterial infections is a very complex part of our bodies.
