Maui realty nose-dives - Business
So , the value is going down. Too bad the property taxes can't do the same. (May 14, 2009 | post #3)
Riders lament loss as city cuts TheBoat - Hawaii News
onlyparadise made a great point about having to ride buses at both ends of the ride. Sounds exactly like the elevated canvas for graffiti artists that seems to go up in price everytime it's discussed. (May 14, 2009 | post #5)
Let's roll on bikeways - Editorials
The reason that bikes got popular was high gas prices. Fuel in Holland is pretty wxpensive. The oil companies have been making record profits while everyone else has been sliding down the tube. Petroleum providers have a right to price their product so as to produce maximum profit, too bad that calculation includes keeping competitive technologies from getting a foothold. Ex-police sergeant and wife sentenced for gaming roles - News
A tradition...not a crime. This slap on the wrist for betraying a sworn oath, THAT does not make any kine sense. This case high-lights a lot of what is wrong with our Hawai'i...stupid missionary imposed crimes breed corrupt enforcers. (May 12, 2009 | post #2)
Just like that 3 $ battery recycling fee you pay when you buy a car battery. Where did it go? It sure ain't recycling old batteries. 40 years ago I used to regularly commute via bicycle on the Aiea/Pearl Harbor portion of the bike path. It was sure nice to get separated from traffic. Especially when there is zero shoulder on the roads. We have all had the experience of standing by the curb and having a truck or bus whoosh by inches from your nose. The transportation division in this state inherited a system of donkey paths and their brains are still stuck in donkey mode. Quaint, but not very useful. (May 12, 2009 | post #2)
Kindle's latest iteration moves us closer to 'e-ink' - Features
My worst vice is reading. Should be doing chores , but got my nose stuck in a book. In this case a Sony reader I bought when they first came out.One consequence of not having to go out and physically get books is that I am getting pretty fat. Still have to stir my stumps to go get food and beer. (May 10, 2009 | post #1)
Rare infection kills Pearl City High teacher - News
Terrible for the family, so sudden and unexpected. The immune system that protects us against these bacterial infections is a very complex part of our bodies. Poorly understood but much study is going on. Maybe we will never know how a healthy young man like this can be stricken down so quickly. (May 5, 2009 | post #9)
Hotel tax increase alive, raid of county portions dead - Editor...
The Hawai'ian Monarchy sold Lanai. The money was wasted in the ordinary government way. Maybe with a little redecoration we could "re-purpose " the "big square building" for more lucrative pursuits. The current occupants don't seem to be doing anything beneficial. (May 5, 2009 | post #4)
Overhaul prostitution law - Editorials
Get the girls off the streets. What Waikiki really needs is some clean, well lighted "houses" for the gals to work. It's impossible to outlaw sex for pay, might as well have some classy joints for pleasure. Potted palms, nice rugs, whips and chains. (May 5, 2009 | post #2)
Maybe if we doubled Oshiro's 37% percent pay raise he might, maybe, show up for work. Fat Chance. (May 5, 2009 | post #5)

Lack of common sense permeates local politics - Editorials
The annual dance of the sugar plum fairies. Legislators have built such a maze of rules that they can honestly answer constituents who want to know how a particular proposal is doing : I tried , I really tried. Shibai...they were out playing golf. (May 3, 2009 | post #1)
Elevated rail plan is the right way to go - Editorials
Oh , could we please track the public funds that have been spent promoting this clunker? Maybe we can recover some of the slush funds and even uncover some other illegal activities. The whole "railroad " full ahead ramrod smells shibai. Been some wonderful sarcasm and ironic remarks here. Definately worth reading. (May 1, 2009 | post #107)
