Obama administration says federal marriage law unfair

It’s good to see Obama moving in this direction finally. It looks like he is ready to face the tuff issues head on, health care, gay civil rights etc. I am also happy to see it finally being addressed as civil rights. We are full citizens who pay our taxes and only want to live our lives free of harassment as open honest people. A closet is a horrid place to live.  (Aug 18, 2009 | post #3)

'Kiss-ins' smack back at Mormon church as faith's image suffers...

I have a niece who is a Mormon, hard core. She has three kids and a dead husband. They live on Social Security. That church takes 10% of her income and the kids go hungry while the big wigs in the church live like kings. I'm reluctant to post this, but this story is currently making ...

My initial emotional response was shock, horror, and disbelief. A more rational thought is, yes this could well be true. Under a regime that was sanctioning torture of prisoners on a par with the Nazis this could have happened. The official behavior of the government sets the mood for the military and face it, with the degree we gays here at home face at the hands of rightwing extremists who must be in the military also. This becomes all to real. If they could crucify Matthew Shepard on a barbwire fence they could surly do that to gay Iraqis. Bush and company should be charged with war crimes. The Justice Department should be mounting a major investigation of these charges, but in will never happen. There is no power in this world with guts enough to do what is right. This will pass and be forgotten along with all the other crimes the most powerful nation in the world has committed. America truly is the best and the worst of nations. -- though LDS Church officials insist it was far more amorous than that -- Of course they said that to cover their butts. Lying is what churches do. They also said that if prop 8 did not pass churches would be forced to perform gay marriages, another lie. When gay marriage becomes legal in a state, all the churches who object to it have to do is stop the legal element involved. Tell their people to go to the courthouse and get a legal paper. Then they can return to the church and have a religious blessing if they think that is important. Churches should not be performing a legal service in the first place. If Mr. Obama had not been so up in our faces about being a “fierce advocate” when he needed our votes and money he would not be facing our wrath now. He is a politician and they have tunnel vision. It’s all about being elected. Anyone who thinks he actually cares about us and our civil rights is living in a dream world. If, as it appears, he thinks he can be reelected without us, or with just the few gay high rollers who attend his cocktail parties he will not think twice about hanging us out to dry. Fear And Loathing In The Congress - Lez Get Real

Please do not stereotype, thank you. I am an old white male and an ordained minister, and so far left I never for a moment doubt I am right in saying we are all one people from a common root We must continue our struggle until this becomes a conscious reality through out all of society, and for all people. Hate breeds hate and ALL hate is born of fear, and fear is born of ignorance. The only way to fight hate is with love. We need to be bigger people than they are, and understand this. By this I do not mean we should lie down in the gutter and let them walk over, and yes murder us. We need to understand where they are coming from and address the root of their problem, and it is their problem, and it is ignorance. In hating them we are no better than them, and justify their hate. We must be above reproach. To do this we need to set our emotions aside. Stand and fight, yes! But in a calculated non-emotional way. The emotional road can only lead to violence. In every gay protest I ever attended there were those of our people running around trying to do just that, from emotion incite violence.. Rationally, thoughtfully through nonviolent civil disobedience is the only way we can win. Most of you may not be old enough to remember the black struggle for equality, but I am. Beyond Watts it followed this strategy. The fathers of these preachers in that video, their forerunners, were using exactly the same arguments against people of color a generation ago. They did so because they had the same fear of them they now have of us. Now a black man is the leader of the world. WE CAN WIN!  (Jul 16, 2009 | post #8)
