Should truck driving be classified as skilled
The Canadian senate has said that truck drivers should be classified as skilled, something that I thought should have happened years ago, especially as we need to have a special licsence to operate on the highway system in the US and Can (Jun 16, 2008 | post #1)
I do agree that both borders do need to be better patroled and I am a Canadian who is working on immigrating to the USA legally. Alot of the people who cross from the north are failed refugee claimants. I think that the USA and Canada should work on closer harmonization of immigration laws and that Canada should be alot tougher on immigrants than it is. As a long haul, over the road truck driver I see the US CBP at work every week and more than once have watched someone detained for false ID and illegal use of documentation. I myself have been hasseled for being married to a US citizen but retaining my Canadian citizenship and residence. (Dec 5, 2007 | post #21)

Truckers Protest Mexican Competition
I just del. to Laredo, Tx. and seen something that scared me. A truck from Mexica had his fuel tank held on with a piece of nylon rope. I tried to get a couple of pictures but my camera died on me. The truck looked like an old schneider cab-over. and these trucks are supposed to be as safe as US and Canadian trucks. from the looks of the front bumper the driver or company didnt take very good care of its equipment. the lettering was faded and pretty well scratched off so you couldn't read the company name or the numbers, which are supposed to be visible at all times and legible up to 50 feet away (Oct 30, 2007 | post #59)

18-wheeler hell could be averted by voicing anger -- themorning...
why no more retreads? I have run caps on my drives for a few years and have not had near as many problems as I have had with virgin(new) tires? The biggest thing is I keep track of my tire pressures and try to catch if I have a nail or bolt in my tread. As for the 10pm to 6 am thing I am not the type of person who likes to drive all night I have a wife I like to talk to during the day. If we are all restricted to those times the traffic would be worse because there wouldnt be enough parking (Oct 25, 2007 | post #9)
State to Hundreds of Truck Drivers: Licenses Are No Good
As a graduate of a commercial driver training school in Canada, my instructor gave me a road test in a loaded tractor trailer before the provincial inspector gave me an official road test. I think that there should be minimums set for schools wether they are at state/provincial community colleges or outside schools. I had to have at least 35 hours driving time to take the road test, and we had 2 people who failed because they thought they could get by with less. (Oct 24, 2007 | post #7)
