agree with you joe, the police could have used a taser on that teenage boyu that they shot in the head here in vegas. and now there is the fight with the lawyer that the cop shot on the corner from my house, he says he didnt take the gun out of his pocket, but the cop says he did. The cops in vegas just want to shoot people and they do and they get away with it too, the one who shot the kid in the head is on paid leave but you don't hear much on the news about it anymore.  (Sunday Nov 8 | post #1325)

Why I’m no longer a Christian

Walter, before you spout senseless babble why don't you do research yourself, christians wasnt the first scientists, try google it can get you all the info you need. Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Haytham was the first person to test hypotheses with verifiable experiments, developing the scientific method more than 200 years before European scholars learned of it—by reading his books. Born in Basra in 965, Ibn al-Haytham first studied theology, trying unsuccessfully to resolve the differences between the Shi'ah and Sunnah sects. He then turned his attention to the works of the ancient Greek philosophers and mathematicians, including Euclid and Archimedes. He completed the fragmentary Conics by Apollonius of Perga. He was the first person to apply algebra to geometry, founding the branch of mathematics known as analytic geometry. A devout Muslim, Ibn al-Haitham believed that human beings are flawed and only God is perfect. To discover the truth about nature, Ibn a-Haytham reasoned, one had to eliminate human opinion and allow the universe to speak for itself through physical experiments. "The seeker after truth is not one who studies the writings of the ancients and, following his natural disposition, puts his trust in them," the first scientist wrote, "but rather the one who suspects his faith in them and questions what he gathers from them, the one who submits to argument and demonstration. " Roger Bacon, who sometimes is credited as the first scientist, wrote a summary of Kitâb al-Manâzir entitled Perspectiva (Optics) some two hundred years after Ibn al-Haytham's death. Ibn al-Haytham conducted many of his experiments investigating the properties of light during a ten-year period when he was stripped of his possessions and imprisoned as a madman in Cairo. How Ibn al-Haytham came to be in Egypt, why he was judged insane, and how his discoveries launched the scientific revolution are just some of the questions answered in Ibn al-Haytham: First Scientist, the world's first biography of the Muslim polymath known in the West as Alhazen, Alhacen, or Alhazeni. Midwest Book Review calls Ibn al-Haytham: First Scientist a "fine blend of history and science biography." Booklist concurs, praising Ibn al-Haytham: First Scientist as a "clearly written introduction to Ibn al-Haytham, his society, and his contributions. " Kirkus Reviews touts the book as "an illuminating narrative...of a devout, brilliant polymath." Children's Literature adds, "Steffens deftly weaves an overview of Muslim history into this biography." The critics are not the only ones recommending the book; buyers of the book are lauding it as well. Dr. Ertan Salik writes: "I congratulate Bradley Steffens for his beautiful work about Ibn al-Haytham and his advancement of experimental science." Abdul Jabbar Al-Shammari, the director of the Ibn al-Haitham Center for Science and Technology in Amman, Jordan, writes: "I enjoyed reading about the events in the life of the first scientist, Ibn al-Haitham. I congratulate you on writing a fantastic and accurate book.” A. Nor of Ohio adds, "I find the book interesting, for it accords and recognizes a Muslim scientist his proper place as the first scientist who is responsible for advocating experimental work in verifying conceived scientific ideas (hypotheses). The leader of christianity is alive? Where on the t.v. asking for everybodies money? I thought the so called god was never a living being and that the so called son of god died on the cross? Wouldn't that mean you just showed a contradiction in yourself and your religion? Before you type, realize what your saying.  (Oct 13, 2009 | post #169874)

what up with kids these days?!

I agree also it's the parents. I wasn't spared the rod while i was growing up, but then again the children services wasnt too worried about kids getting a firm hand on the ass, but now that's changed, they don't want you spanking your kids, but they don't want to spend money to help the kids either. I live in las vegas and there is plenty of stuff for kids to do but they would rather act like little gang bangers and tear up other peoples stuff. Now thanks to the apartments i live in, if they damage a vehicle or other property or the cops are called for any reason they go to jail, no questions asked, thanks to a contract woth the city.  (Oct 13, 2009 | post #32)

Lol? Devry isn't college? Hate to tell you that devry is a college, it's an accredited one that can give a higher education, but then again an education is way out in left field for both you and larry.  (Oct 12, 2009 | post #42)
