Boy attacked possibly because of color of hair

It's sadly ironic, the "Ginger Kids" episode satirically highlighted the ridiculousness of hating people for their appearance by choosing the most unlikely demographic as the target of Eric Cartman's hate (red heads). Instead kids who may never have even seen the episode took a literal interpretation and this is the result. Speaking as both a parent and a fan of South Park I'd advise any parent to not let your kids watch this show.  (Monday Nov 23 | post #54)

Teachers, LAUSD at odds over cutbacks

Too bad between prep work and grading many (good ones anyways) work more than 10 hours in a day.  (Monday Nov 23 | post #103)

Teachers, LAUSD at odds over cutbacks

It doesn't matter whether they are passed by voters the net effect is higher property taxes (or property taxes by another name) the bureaucrats and the corrupt union bosses that pull the strings have a loophole to get around Prop 13. To say that property taxes are "fixed" because of Prop 13 is misleading at best.  (Tuesday Nov 17 | post #36)

Teachers, LAUSD at odds over cutbacks

Except for the numerous bonds that have been passed over the years which in effect add to property taxes ($2 in taxes for every $1 raised)  (Tuesday Nov 17 | post #31)

Teachers, LAUSD at odds over cutbacks

Better to let the the district be taken over by the state, maybe it will eventually be broken up. The district is far to big to run efficiently, the administrative and maintenance staff have already bore almost all of the burden of the recent cuts. It could not make additional cuts outside the classroom and still (dys)function at all with it's current size. Cortines means well but as David Brewer found out the district is broken beyond repair, to even try to fix it you get thrown out on your behind. The union bosses only care about maintaining their own power and influence, it doesn't matter how many students (or teachers) are harmed as long as AJ Duffy and his cronies are not impacted.  (Tuesday Nov 17 | post #25)

Charters, teachers union among those bidding for control of cam...

Can't think of a worse idea than handing over control of schools to the UTLA, they have shown time and again that they will step all over the best interests of students, not to mention the teachers they supposedly represent to maintain their own power and influence.  (Tuesday Nov 17 | post #4)

Regulators: no proof of grave desecrations at cemetery

This one seemed baseless from the start. It would be nice if things likes this didn't make the news based solely on the allegations of someone looking for money.  (Thursday Nov 12 | post #3)

No peace in war over trailer billboards

The trailer signs don't bother me, you see higher concentrations of them as more and more "no unhitched trailers" signs go up (at taxpayer expense) reducing the areas they can be parked legally. What bothers me is the "bandit signs" posted on telephone poles or roadside, of course the city doesn't do anything about these because it's much easier to go after the trailer signs and unlike the bandit signs where most of the time the "advertiser " is a shady web site registered anonymously it's easy to get money out of the trailer sign operators.  (Monday Nov 9 | post #15)

Carly Fiorina expected to run for Republican Senate nomination

Good luck to her but her chances are slim, running as a moderate she will be (and is being) branded a "RINO" and will lose in the primary. If she runs as a conservative nutjob to secure the nomination she will alienate the general electorate who want a moderate but will chose a liberal over a conservative when forces to chose between these two extremes. Boxer has little to fear.  (Wednesday Nov 4 | post #6)

Motorcyclist killed in collision with pickup truck in Northridge

The shop my parents own is right there, they said that the paramedics were on the scene in less than two minutes, indeed there is a fire station less than 1/4 mile away from where this accident occurred.  (Tuesday Nov 3 | post #11)

Costco and Westfield in discussions about Woodland Hills location

Costco and Westfield in discussions about Woodland Hills location

Hiring more people would increase their cost and would result in higher prices, no thanks I'll find things on my own.  (Monday Nov 2 | post #19)

Area code overlay still hasn't produced a single 747 telephone ...

There was no "need" for people with 818 numbers to dial 1-818 when calling another 818 number, this is an arbitrary inconvenience introduced presumably to head off potential complaining by future 747 users; "Why do I have to dial 1-818 for every call when my neighbor doesn't". This daily inconvenience was subjected to almost 2 million people to head off possible future complaints from 747 users who don't even exist yet.  (Monday Nov 2 | post #9)
