Twin Palms restaurant to close Nov. 25

I've never been to Gloria's restaurant, but like you said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Some people simply don't like a certain type of food, then say it's terrible when in fact, it's wonderful. Not liking something doesn't make it bad, it just doesn't make it your taste. Madres was never intended to be a fancy restaurant regardless of the linen and crystal. It was based on Cuban and Puerto Rican home cooking. Good food in a hoity atmosphere.  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #33)

Russ, I'm not concerned about your condemnation. You have no power. Perhaps if you'd spend more time improving your lot in life, you'd have less anger towards people who have more than you. Get a life.  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #32)

Perhaps some negative media attention will force this gym to do the right thing. TV stations, where are you?  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #1)

Twin Palms restaurant to close Nov. 25

Actually, the food at Madres was quite good. It was based on old family recipes and the preparation and presentation were wonderful. Anyone who had the arroz con pollo will tell you they miss that dish most of all. The problem with Madres was the staff. Although several of her family members manned the restaurant, the staff was obviously "servers " just itching to drop off a headshot at the most opportune table. With the exception of Ojani (Jennifer's first husband, who managed the place when it opened) the staff was a rotating band of wannabe actors and actresses who performed their best "look down the nose scene" when they greeted you. Ojani on the other hand, had the incredible talent of making everyone feel welcomed and warm. Too bad he turned out to be such a d*uch with the honeymoon tape. One of the most incredibly stupid comments I ever heard from someone when they came out of that restaurant was "that didn't even come close to authentic Mexican food." It made me want to take the hard bound menu and slap them across the face and say "what part of Cuban / Puerto Rican cuisine did you not understand from reading the first page?" I was sorry to see Madres close because regardless of the shortcomings, the food was fantastic.  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #29)

Pasadena to get five-story development on Colorado and El Molino

The problem is, the "new" they keep bringing in is tacky, poorly designed and rarely fits esthetically with the city. We have people in office who have absolutely no background, education or knowledge of history, architecture or preservation. This down is becomming El Monte.  (Wednesday Nov 18 | post #21)
