New mercado to aid workers, revitalize El Paso neighborhood
I'm all for the mercado idea especially since we might be shot at in the real mexico, but let me ask you, are there some ideas that we can bounce around that take other cultures into consideration? The chinese lived here and helped build el paso along with the black buffalo soldier. The German immigrants, etc. To embrace all cultures is great , to celebrate your own is another and to self-narcissistica lly dwell in your own culture to the exclusion of others indicates fear, ignorance, and false pride.!!!!! And that's the truth (Tuesday Aug 19 | post #24)
Cell tower reconsidered - Ruidoso News
Hey Ray Reeves could you be one of those cigar chompin businessmen that stand to profit from the cell tower? Could you conceive in your mind that maybe someone does not want a cell tower right next to them Now, its possible that they have emergencies up there that need a cell phone call but for 2700 dollars that is not enough profit for anyone not even the cell phone Co. There are other forces at work. I HATE business people telling whats good for us. Usually its only good for them in their pink cadillacs. Also, If a fair percentage of business people left this earth we would lead healthier , better, more moral and definitely more productive lives. I think animals take better care of this earth than many business people. Not all. (Tuesday Aug 19 | post #24)
This is a takeoff on the Cafe Central thread. They're many great eateries in town, terrific chefs. But why can't we get one that has it all. Pro chefs that offer a diverse menu in a great setting with pleasant background music. Oh, you say there are a few. Yes maybe two,or four. Since all food critics are subjective, I do have to say that the cooks and help are great here and will not name names at some establishments but only after Pat Devlin did his Surf Club did places start offering outdoor cafe dining ? And he ran into major problems with the city. Also Sojourns;\'s coffeehouse ran into big problems, the owner moved away. They offered eclectic music. I'll bet most El Pasoans do not even know what that is.Anyway, lets concentrate on the good.............. . (Friday Aug 15 | post #1)
Downtown's Cafe Central on alcohol commission's delinquent list
Not to be critical but, they have an entire floor of a building to manage a resteraunt, they had the t.v, blaring on a Saturday night, very amateurish and there food was only passable to good. I'm sure they mean well. but it certainly is not a five star big city restaraunt. No offense. They are in a nice spot and the waiters were cordial and efficient. I wish El paso would move into the big leagues with something!!!!!!!!! (Friday Aug 15 | post #7)
We do it again. Money, money ,money. The bigwigs are at it again they want it zoned commercial for an upscale mall. That would not be so bad if they considered other ideas, but nyeeeeechh. No wonder quality people leave!!!!!!!! (Friday Aug 15 | post #1)
Sadly, computers are more important in our society than beauty and culture. People would rather sit crouched around a glowing microsoft windows screen that has defective software than engage in learning an instrument or painting or drawing that can help them develop throughout their life. And worse yet, some administrators do not even recognize this fact. they keep pouring millions of dollars into questionable software that MAY , I repeat MAY help children later in life.As we pour millions into microsoft's defective software, China , S. Korea, India Germany are pouring out engineers, Artists, etc. that are surpassing our video engaged culture. It's not the kids. Its the adults, who wants to play Guitar Hero 3 when you can learn the real instrument.Well, many children from foreign nations do and some here. But Bill gates has dumbed down America by making defective software and promoting technology even breaking antitrust laws. (Wednesday Aug 13 | post #12)
Those commenters that are knuckle dragging and have no use for the arts are more than likely the same people that believe that the ultimate goal of family life is to get a 42 inch big screen t.v. and have beers in the fridge.Considering that football is only a game they probably bet on it and and consider white trash their intellectual equals and moral superiors.Having said that, that kind of attitude is what keeps our city behind others and the local "orgullo " is just a machismo coverup, even if a woman has it, scratch that. Worse if a woman has it.Nuogh said on this post, not even a contest. (Tuesday Aug 12 | post #7)
We have a son on the Eastside that his school cannot find a drama or orchestra teacher. What's up? Principal of the school says they are looking but also says when they find one they get transferred to other duties. HHHHmmmmmm. Sounds like foul play here. Or is it that UTEP is not graduating them. remember the late Juan Munoz SISDboard member. He got thousands of dollars allocated to the fine arts but they mysteriously got transferred to literacy requirements. Sounds a little fishy. I think this is happening all over. When will administrators realize that the fine arts make school inspirational to attend. 3o kids sitting in a class for 1 and 1/2 block hour math equations does not sound like a fun time EXCEPT for very few students. Call your local school and see whats up. (Monday Aug 11 | post #1)
Correction on the above Sam's mailed it on the 21st of Dec. then required it back on the 26th sorry but the extortion charge holds true. (Friday Aug 8 | post #2)
I supect that Sam's and J.C. Penney mail there credit card bills with only a few days turnaround time for you to mail back and then charge you a late fee. Is'nt that called extortion in mafia circles? Several years ago Sam,s mailed a bill to me on Dec. 25th and when I did not mail back on the 26th after Christmas I was socked with a charge. That is why I try to avoid shopping there and at J.C. penneys. It may be the credit company's fault. Either way, they hold the sheep American public hostage. Get on the phone and call your state Senator and call the companies credit department. Chew them out if this has happened (Friday Aug 8 | post #1)
Keep the thread going then. I'm outta here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Friday Aug 8 | post #11)
Other added plusses for El Paso that a skatepark/bistro area and walking path / would have: 1. Added high level jobs because a better quality of life. 2. A slowdown as shoppers digest the gobs of money spent at the mall 3. Memories to be made for both out of towners and locals to reminicse(sic) about as they travel through 4. A meeting relax area like the inner harbor in Baltimore, Fishermans wharf in S.F. , Riverwalk in S.A. 5. A place to put food vendors that could give a lively food flair and give the local eatery custom. 6. Regulated traffic flow as people relax to the park instead of rushing to the mall. 6a. Good arcing capabilities for howitzers if things really get tough down south. (scratch that)!!!!! 7. We have enough outdoor concerts now but a place for mimes and magicians to ply their trade. (I spoke with a seasoned magician and all he said were requests for Mariachi here, I can vouch for that) 8. Several new companies have moved into town to make this a real reality, get on the phone I am calling cooks office right now since I do not have time to go to City Council meetings and put it on the agenda. P.S. whowever is able to keep this thread alive please do so, I gotta work and El Paso reeeeeeeelly needs this! (Friday Aug 8 | post #9)
