Rat: you brought back a poolhall memory. On our way to New York, my family and I lived in New Ken for about 10 months before moving to NYC in the summer of 1968. One of my New York friends, Howard, who was an attorney, was also a pool champion. Frequently, we shot pool at an establishment on Broadway. He and his wife, who managed a male singer, came to New Kensington to be with the singer for the weekend when he performed with my wife, Paul at the Bachelor Club. Paula sang there with Art Desimond's band. One afternoon Howard and I went into the poolhall on tenth street. It was on the north side of the street. It wasn't there when I was growing up - then the pool hall was on tenth with an entrance on Fifth Avenue. Anyway, we were just passing some time - I was a fair shot - but couldn't beat Howard. Three or four guys came in and two of them wanted to shoot with us. We declined (we knew they were hustlers). they insisted - $10.00 a game. Finally we let them have their way. After losing three or four games, they quit. They were hustlers who met their match. Howard did it all, I just made sure to leave the guy hanging who followed me. I had many interesting experiences during the ten months we lived there. I met a guy there who owned a bar in Verona with go-go dancers. That's another story.  (Sunday Nov 29 | post #2539)

I was checking my bogwig.com site and when i saw me in the Santa Claus suit, I realized something. The photo is from the time I took over the roll of Santa Claus in my play "Cancel Christmas" at the San Diego Children's Museum. The Santa I cast for the part was drunk opening night, so I had to take over. Anyway, I realized that in my senior year in high school and the following year, I was Santa Claus in Silverman's Department Store in New Kensington, PA. Little did I realize, at that time, how important Santa Claus would be to me.  (Wednesday Nov 25 | post #2517)

Ambrose: I just scanned that area and I see that there are newer houses on the corner of Parkview Dr and Freeport Rd., just across the street from you. I forgot about the house between the two on Freeport Rd. Monaco's is on Kimberly - Saw a black SUV on North street next to your office - is that yours? There are also new buildings on Freeport Rd. between Woodbury and Parkview. I went down Manor and it look like the first hose is newer so it would have been the second house that Sam had for a while. I also went down Parkview to my Grandmothers house - it looks the same - the yard has changed a little. That was really a stroll down memory lane.  (Wednesday Nov 11 | post #2433)

I have been in your office many times - when it was Pimm's. I think the Monaco Market was about a block or two from Freeport Road. My Mother's parents, my grandparents lived one lot up from Freeport Road on Woodbury Rd. and my dad's parents lived on Parkview Dr. Sam's House was next to Freds on Manor Road and Freeport Road. Both houses were on Freeport Road. Is that stone wall and those big trees still across Freeport Road from your place?  (Wednesday Nov 11 | post #2432)
