You are a die-hard Oriole fan! Win or lose, you root for The Birds. I like that. GO ORIOLES! (9 hrs ago | post #15)
I hear what you're saying, but the way things have gone with Safarte starting, I'd rather have Burres. Not long term, just for now. At least Burress had a few good starts earlier in the year, and he did tally 7 wins (with a lot of offensive help). I'm not down on Safarte, because I think he is a good relief pitcher (he's not Jimmy Johnson, but who is?). He's a pretty good reliever. I guess that just for a few starts, Burress would be the lesser of two evils. Although I know that you have a much more extensive knowledge of our farm system, so take what I suggest with a grain of salt. (12 hrs ago | post #8)
I remember in 1977 at Yankee Stadium, Ken Singleton was signing autographs for half an hour before the game. I guess there are some athletes that "get it," that they are doubly priviledged: One, because they play baseball for a living, and two because they get lots of monet to do so. (13 hrs ago | post #5)
I got his autograph last month when The Tides played at Durham. He was the only player that went out of his way to give me his signature. I got Tyke Redman's too, but I had to ask. When Mr. Mickolio saw me standing there with a pen and paper, he went right up to me and signed, without a prompt. I don't know how well he'll pitch up here, but there couldn't be a nicer guy. 50 millionth O's fan honored at Camden Yards
I think you are onto soemthing. It was hardly scientific in the picking of the EXACT 50 millionth fan. I'm sure that they made sure that it was an O's fan, and at least fairly good-looking. I can't imagine all that money, free tickets, and VIP Treatmant if it was a Red Sox fan, could you? All that press, all that recognition and hoopla, given to a person dressed in Red Sox burgundy? So was this fixed? NAAAAAHHHH! COULDN'T BE! (Yesterday | post #8)
Last week I saw The Norfolk Tides at The Durham Bulls and The Bluefield Orioles at The Burlington Royals. Tomorrow night, I see The Bluefield O's at home against Johnson City. Then, all three games against The Yanks at Oriole Park. I LOVE THIS GAME! (Yesterday | post #1)
Actually, GHOST ORIOLE is NOT a front-runner: he is a BACK-RUNNER, because he roots for The Orioles to LOSE. I guess GHOST ORIOLE likes it in the back. (Tuesday | post #51)
The Orioles lost the first game of the series with their ace on the mound. Therefore, they will win the next two games with lesser starters on the mound. So there. (Tuesday | post #48)
Melvin Mora Fan Club here. I don't have anything to say, just want you all to know that I'm here. (Monday Aug 18 | post #24)
O's bats come through in series finale
If Brewster McNYork ever made it past the sixth grade, he would know how to spel. That's a fact. (Monday Aug 18 | post #59)
O's bats come through in series finale
Am I insane? Well, I root for a team that has had ten straight losing seasons, I make the five-hour trip from Brewster to Camden yards for about six games a year, I follow the Orioles' Minor League affiliates like a puppy dog by attending LOTS of their games too, from The Rookie-League Bluefield Orioles to the AAA Norfolk Tides and everywhere in between. So yeah, I guess I am a little insane. Wouldn't you say? (Sunday Aug 17 | post #55)
O's bats come through in series finale
I think that just about everything you said was on target. Yes, no question, Mussina has had hardly any injuries, etc. But the MONEY that he was paid was WAY too much for his resume. I'm not saying Mussina is alone. Rather ALL baseball players are overpaid (except for the rookies and bench players). He signed a six-year contract with the Yanks in 2001. I have no issue with that. What I DO have an issue with is that over those six seasons (2001-2006) he was paid $85 Million Dollars. Yes, he was a PRETTY GOOD pitcher over those six seasons, but he was no Sandy Koufax. A six-year contract??? Absolutely! But $85 Million for those six seasons? A pitcher that had 12 complete games, 8 shutouts, and an ERA of slightly over 4.00 over those six seasons? NO WAY! O's bats come through in series finale
Wouldn't that be the kicker if The Mariners gave up on Bedard, and we got him back, and he went back to pitching effectively for us? Bedard was traded, he DID NOT leave via free agency like Reggie Jackson did in 1977, or like Mike Mussina did in 2001. I don't hold any ill will toward Bedard, and I wouldn't have a problem with him coming back to us. Who knows? (Sunday Aug 17 | post #47)
