OK here is someone who has it right to a point. As a former smoker it was important to me to not smoke where it would bother someone else. My wife is a non-smoker and I was basically limited to two Man Cave type rooms that she didn't enter when i was smoking. Put in the smoke eaters and such. But when I'm out at a club my drinking bone is connected to my smoking bone. Same for the bowling alley. Resturants, NEVER! You're right smoke makes food taste different and should never involve risking children! However, it is the business owners who should dictate what happens inside their establishment! Not the City! If there is smoking inside and you don't want smoke, don't go in! Don't let the kids in! Your saying that smokers and non-smokers are demanding their right to choose. Why don't we let the owners have the same right? (Oct 27, 2009 | post #12)
Why did JCPD Captain Dan Breci get run out of Shawnee County?
I've know Dan for over 15 years. We're not the best of friends, but I trust him alot. And having met his wife a couple of times I'm pretty sure that if there was any truth in this line of rumors, she would have kicked him out and taken him for all he is worth. There have been other instances of officers in Shawnee County and TCPD doing what was legal and right, but not being a member of the right clique, being led out the door! Please go ask that 4th Degree [or is it 5th] what he did, especially that gay question. Just let me know when your going! I want to watch. (Aug 24, 2009 | post #33)
I sent Rod an email on Friday say that I was sorry he was leaving! If they plan a farewell event for him, I do hope to be invited! (Aug 24, 2009 | post #5)
People all around town have been asking for years to get more sidewalks! But even if we do, unless the city begins enforcing their use, what difference does it make. Watch a group of teanagers today walking down 14th street, two wide, in the street. This is one of the few places that does have a sidewalk and they won't use it. Riley county has an ordanace that if a sidewalk is available, it MUST be used! I rember years ago when Mayor Parker attempted to get sidewalks in Westwood. We're still waiting. Lawrence builder pleads guilty to conspiracy charge
Hold on, did we say the golf manager as a long time employee shouldn't have been fired? Wasn't that where the after hour sex parties were being held when the sheriff's dept caught several people in various stages of, well you know, a couple of years ago? (Aug 12, 2009 | post #9)
Why I love living in Junction CIty
Not in this line of thought. Many of the other topics are just mean spirited. Who did what to the city, who blocked this or that. Why can't they wear better cloths, etc. Our forum pages look like the major blame game of the century. And let's not even get into the dialog that comes on when someone disagrees with the discussion. Junction City is a wonderful city, even when it was "Junk Town" it was better than my hometown of New York City! You want to talk about sales tax! 1974 NYC was 11.5%. Don't know what it is today, but 7.5 is pretty good! Public schools were diploma mills and still are! East Rockway HS has nothing on JCHS. Sirens and car horns all night long. Gun fights everyday, gangs fighting in the streets, etc. A lot of good people here. Flood of 93. People all ages and colors working to save parts of the town that didn't effect them, just because it was their town! I don't remember any national figures looking at Junction City. Just the big cities that were getting flooded. FEMA came to town and said don't build there anymore or you have to do this if you build there, bought up a few trailers and destroyed them and left. Big whoop. Junction City kept on marching, helping it's own. I was so proud then and now to say I'm from JC. (Aug 6, 2009 | post #75)
Governor: No Gitmo detainees at Leavenworth
Sorry, but not kidding! You do realize that there is an active Mosque in Manhattan and an Islamic temple in Junction City. Fort Riley, just like Fort Leavenworth, were fully sited years ago by the enemies of the free world. Here you have a building that no one has escaped from the building itself in over 100 years. The post more than enough personnel to readily provide for both internal and external security missions. And think about it. If one of these individuals did escape, in the middle of Kansas, how long till we get him back? Just my opinion and I'll defend to the death yours as well. (Aug 6, 2009 | post #6)

I have friends who work in the same shop area and they have nothing but good things to say. This may not be the same as actually useing them, but that's all I have at the moment. (Jul 31, 2009 | post #4)
Ok, so in a nutshell, the city winds up being the land lord/Slum lord! I was looking at the JCKS web page and there is a section for the bonds and what is owed and what the city expects to get in taxes and losses. I'm sorry we figure in what we're not going to get? I want to thank everyone on these pages! I'm learning a lot. George (Jul 31, 2009 | post #66)
I've got a question now! If as a majority, we admit the city, with direction from the US Army, and obvious greed on some peoples parts, how do we correct it! There are brand new houses within walking distance of my house that I don't think will ever sell. Not enough people, too much cost! When the sale price drops below the cost to build, who's going bankrupt first! The city or the developer! Will the developers try to sue the city for lost income or what! Anyone got any ideas? Let's forward a few to Rod and see where that goes! (Jul 31, 2009 | post #61)
