Shawn Gray for Mayor

After a long vacation down in the Islands I'm back....and you're my first prey. So the Bushes are the evils of the world. Well let's look at Overton County for the past 22 years and two months. Overton County's average unemployment rate for the last 22 years and 2 months has averaged 8.0%. Now let's look at that time span under each Presidential Adminstration: G.H.W. Bush 9.4% (remember this is just 3 years of his term) Bill Clinton 7.5% (8 years) G.W. Bush 6.8% (8 Years Obama 11.2% ( 3years and 4 months) Looks Like Obama is sucking hind tit here. Look at what I see....Overton County's unemployemnt rate was the lowest under G.W. Bush.....how can that be he's the worst President we've ever had if you listen to the Democrats here in the county. Where is Obama...I can't hear you!!!!! I think if you look at the year of 1989, and add the 12 months of GHW Bush's unemplyment rates for the county, it would come down to about 8.5%. So I would say GW Bush wasn't so bad.....6.8% compared to 11.25. OBTW, Didn't Curtis fly to Washington to hop-nob with Obama???????? So who would one vote for????  (May 3, 2012 | post #66)

Perhaps this candidate has a networking system which extends outside the borders of Overton County.  (Mar 28, 2010 | post #4)

Taxpayer, your writings, theme and word selection looks and reads just like another poster on here....as a matter of fact several posters on here....which leads me to believe you are the same person. No one uses the word "noone" like our favorite Overton County Democrat. That said...... 1. Do you know for sure and can you prove WB is drawing his Social Security? Let's say that he is...and that he draws his State Retirement, his SS, his National Guard retirement and his salary. WB hasn’t reached his "full retirement age" therefore according to federal law any amount of income above the established limit of $37,680 then for every $3 over that limit, $1 is withheld from benefits until the month he reaches full retirement age. So now let’s do the math: Let’s just take his salary, as sheriff, which you say, is $70,000. 70,000 – 37, 680 = 32,320/3 = $10,777 So by working as sheriff he forfeits $10,777 per year in SS. If you wish we can make some assumptions here on his State Retirement and in NG Retirement and that number will go up…let’s say his State Retirement is $30,000 per year and his NG is $12,000 per year…..$70,000 + 30,000 +12,000 = 112,000 – 37,680 = 74,320 / 3 = 24,773 thus if you take into account state retirement, NG retirement and his salary WB is losing $24,773 in SS benefits until he reaches his full retirement age. I think WB's full retirement age is 66 and some months. Here’s the link to the SS Administration that proves my position on this issue: http://www.socials ecurity.gov/pubs/1 0003.html 2. You said you were at the jail 5 days straight here a while back. Did it ever occur to you that as sheriff he might have worked nights to either monitor or supervise employees. As sheriff he is responsible for the actions or in-actions of his department. You might want to do a little research there. I don’t believe the state or county sets specific office ours for the sheriff of a county. 3. You said the government paid for Ron Cyrus’ education. I won’t deny that. Have you ever heard of the GI Bill? It’s a program that the Federal Government started after WWII to help veterans get training and education to fit back into the work force. We still have a version of it in effect today. It has help millions of veterans get better paying jobs…including me. 4. Have you personally heard Ron Cyrus state that he and his wife can’t live on $60,000 year or are you spreading hearsay? I ask Ron that question point blank and he told me he had never said that. Ron’s been retired since 2002 from the Army…..it appears to me that if he couldn’t make it on his home would have been foreclosed on by now. 5. All of the free medical and dental you speak about yes that is correct when you are own Active Duty. After retirement, there is an insurance premium and co-pays. Users of the VA system get some free treatment. Officers get a one-time $300 dollar clothing allowance upon commissioning; the service member pays all other clothing expenses during their careers. All of these benefits have been in law for some years now. Why is it you have such an issue with military retirees receiving the benefits they are entitled to receive? Sounds like you want us all to have the same thing when it comes to income, healthcare, a way of life...sounds like old fashion socialism or worse communism. So which are you a socialist or a communist? As for me and my family, we live in a Republic and are good old fashion Capitalist systems that our Founding Fathers established over 230 years ago.  (Mar 20, 2010 | post #59)

Education Spending in Overton County

Does any one know what the true per pupil cost per year is for OC students? What is Overton County School Board's method for reporting? Are they reporting all the costs to us the tax payer or are they hiding costs? Some good questions. This links describes how some of the large school district understate the cost of Public Education cost to the taxpayer. I think we need to ask the questions. http://biggovernme nt.com/mholt/2010/ 03/13/new-cato-stu dy-shows-educators -lie/  (Mar 15, 2010 | post #1)

To be an officer in the US Army on active duty one must have a minimum of a Bachelors’ Degree. Then to be promoted beyond the rank of Major an officer must have completed Command and General Staff College. Command and General Staff College is the Army’s version of advanced management training, there are two versions one is a 10-month course conducted at Fort Leavenworth, KS. The other is a 24-month course that is conducted at various locations worldwide. Now let’s look at some of his assignments: Plans Chief for 18th Airborne Corps: Responsible for developing plans to deploy and employ up to 150,000 US Soldiers any where in the world. Practical experience: Operation Just Cause and Desert Shield/Storm. Director of the 9th Regional Training Schools:: Responsible for projecting, securing and executing all school programs in an eight state area for Active Army, National Guard and Army Reserve Soldiers. These are a couple of his positions that I personally worked with Ron Cyrus while he was on active duty. So now please remind me to what Kenneth Copeland or Mike Speck has done.  (Feb 22, 2010 | post #80)

Bronnie, Mary Jane, Detroit 19 or what ever you are calling yourself today. You are always trying to start crap on Ron Cyrus. You’ve said he has gone to Congress asking for money and you’ve said he’s no manager. Well I’m ready for you to put up or shut up. Last time you started it, I told you to request a FOIA proving that Cyrus has asked for money from Congress. How is that going for you? I would love to see the report. About your claim of lack of management or leadership experience, it seems to me that the senior leaders of the United State Army recommended Cyrus no less than six times for promotion. If you knew how military promotions worked then you would know from the grade of Major (O-4) through Colonel (O-6) that the service recommends the promotion, the US Senate confirms the nomination and the President signs the promotion, thus making it effective. By the way, Cyrus was promoted to Major through Colonel during the Clinton Administration. So if Ron Cyrus is not a manager or leader then your old buddy Bill Clinton screwed up three times on Cyrus when he signed the promotion certificate. It appears to me that Cyrus got three endorsements on his leadership and management skills by the President of the United States. I suggest you call your old buddy Clinton and see why he signed Cyrus’ promotions. It may be that he was getting favors from Monica or some other intern when Cyrus’ promotions came across his desk  (Feb 18, 2010 | post #61)

Wanna Bet on the Mass. Race?

Wheelin, don't want to bet with you. However, if the Democrats lose that seat tonight, their house of cards will begin its fall. Just to let you know, Dave Evans will be at the Overton Motel Restaurant this afternoon at 5pm. Also, I think Ron Cyrus will be there too. Would like to see/meet you there. We need your help!  (Jan 19, 2010 | post #4)

Detroit 19, Mary Jane, aka Bronnie; I see you want to start slamming Ron Cyrus again. Just so I’ve got it right here’s what you wrote; “Cryus also went to the war dept to get more money, once he ran out or over spent our taxdollars. He is no manager or is no other Army person who has retired ,because they would go back to the Senate to get more Tax Dollars money for what was wasted in wars.” Let me address your first sentence about Mr. Cyrus. First of all, Ron Cyrus wasn’t born when the “War Department” was in effect in the US Government. The US Department of War was a Cabinet post from 1789 until Sept 18, 1947. In 1947 it was named the “National Military Establishment” then in 1949 it was renamed the Department of Defense. Ron Cyrus was born in the 50’s. Secondly one doesn’t just go to the “War department and get more dollars. There is a procedure for acquiring those dollars. There is also an audit trail. Since you state Cyrus went back and got more, perhaps you could produce the audit trail. If you know the procedure for asking for funds, then you would know that the audit trail for those request are maintained for a minimum of 15 year. Prove to us that Ron Cyrus asked for additional funds. All you have to do is file a FOIA (Freedom of information act ) request for a copy of his request. Produce the correct Department of Defense form with Ron Cyrus’ signature asking for additional funds and have it published in one of the Overton County Papers then we will believe you. If I read your second sentence correctly (which is poorly constructed), you say no Army person that retires is a manager. Well, I know of at least seven businesses here in the Upper Cumberland that employs 20-150 employees each that are owned by retired Army officers and or NCOs. So, Detroit, Mary Jane or whatever you wish call yourself tonight, show us the proof. Show us the DD form that Cyrus signed requesting additional funds. Also, ask the 300-400 people that work for retired Army types in the upper Cumberland if their bosses are managers? Ask them to put it in writing for us, so we can publish it too. If you are going to slam someone, please provide irrefutable evidence that your comments are factual. You know facts are pesky little things that will bit you in the a$$ if you don’t have them straight. Normally, a FOIA takes about 60 days; I look forward to seeing the DD form.  (Dec 20, 2009 | post #8)

Congressional health care

Gordon is now trying to show how he's conservative. He voted against last night's Healthcare Bill. http://gordon.hous e.gov/apps/list/pr ess/tn06_gordon/11 0709_HealthCare.sh tml I guess the editorial that aired a few nights ago identifying Gordon as being very vulnerable in the next election has gotten his and the house speaker's attention. I’m sure she counted her votes and told Bart that he could vote against the bill so he could look conservative to us for re-election purposes.  (Nov 8, 2009 | post #20)
