Police Chief should be hired from outside.

I think you're the one confused here. It appears that there are several people posting under the name of Oak Forest Watch. Unless you register a user name here, anyone can post as anyone. I could even use the name 'former cop' if I wanted to and post all kinds of drivel.  (Thursday Dec 10 | post #213)

Teachers' Strike Closes Schools In South Suburbs

Yeah, I dont know how many times Ive gotten a 'raise' only to have it wiped out by increased health insurance. We know that the district only wants to give them a 3.5% raise, but how much more are they asking them to pay in pension and health insurance and how much do they contribute to those now?  (Tuesday Dec 8 | post #6)

District 144

How are any of us who pay 20% of their health insurance, plus fund their own pensions and if lucky, get a 3% annual raise supposed to feel pity for these teachers? Someone please post the specifics of what the % of pension and health insurance these teachers currently pay and what the district is asking for.  (Tuesday Dec 8 | post #7)

Nope not a crony, never voted or worked for him. Look, your never going to get an engineer with alot of experience to come an work for a municipality. Thats just the way it is. Your going to get someone young with probably 5+ yrs under his belt. A young engineer. And what exactly will the city be asking him to do? Review site plans, design a box culvert, look at some pavement for evaluation? These are all things young engineers can handle. Something big, such as a street reconstruction or parking lot/structure design would be farmed out due to the complexity of it. The idea is to hire someone to handle the small things so everything doesn't have to be farmed out to a consultant as it is now. And please explain where I insulted the employees of oak forest. I never said a bad word about those guys/women. Oh and if the guys in this town are union, then their making scale. Its that simple.  (Sunday Dec 6 | post #201)

I was basing my salary estimate on amounts in the private market and not the bloated salaries associated with government workers. In the private market, $80k is a fair market price for a young engineer. It is a little light, if you factor in the bloat that typically is associated with government payroll amounts for comparable jobs. IN the real world, its not uncommon for tradesmen to be making more than then the engineers working besides them.  (Saturday Dec 5 | post #196)

Proper compensation for and engineer of that skill would be around $80k or slightly higher. Although this does seem high remember that this person would be doing some of the smaller things you currently pay a consultant to do.  (Thursday Dec 3 | post #179)

Nothing wrong with hiring an engineer to perform the in-house duties. Only concern is that he is licensed and is proficient in both design and construction. Because the current firm is neither.  (Thursday Dec 3 | post #176)

Ministers warn of hospital closures with...

The problem is not that the ministers do have alot of sway with their flocks, its that the influence they peddle doesn't serve the majority of the people listening. In fact about the only ones who do benefit are the ministers themselves. They're the ones in the backroom meetings with Toddler and others and get the 'rewards' for getting their flocks to vote the correct way. If the ministers truly cared about the people they preach to, they would tell them the truth. But that's hard to do when your wallet is weighing you down.  (Wednesday Dec 2 | post #4)

Ministers warn of hospital closures with...

The 'ministers' should be on board with the repeal because its their flock that gets hit hardest by the sales tax. Most of them do not have the means, that us in the burbs do, to go to a neighboring county or state to buy things cheaper. They dont care about their people and we should not care what they say.  (Wednesday Dec 2 | post #2)

What a Crock - St Damian School!

Snob? I think you need to need to brush up on your reading skills. I never bad mouthed the OF public schools or said that those who go to private schools are better. Re-read my post and please point out to me where I belittle those who go to public school.  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #10)

What a Crock - St Damian School!

The amount you pay in yearly tuition, does not equal the total amount it costs St. Damian's' to educate your child during the year. These fundraisers help offset the costs. Spending $20 is a small price to pay to ensure that a child receives a quality education. You always have the option of sending your child to public school, where you wouldn't have to be bothers with these fundraisers.  (Nov 20, 2009 | post #2)

The unions do not give a rip about the city being fiscally responsive. The only thing they are worried about is losing out on member dues (i.e. kickbacks for the union leaders).  (Nov 12, 2009 | post #149)

No, it would be the right vote, but Simon and Toland will vote against it because they are clueless and hes not a good ol' boy from the network. Simons next pet project to get a good ol' boy installed will be for the position of village engineer. He's made waves about it at past meetings and im sure he will be all in for getting one now.  (Nov 10, 2009 | post #140)
