Marijuana Cafe Opens In Portland, Ore. - WJW
Exactly! In California, we fortunately have a way around our corrupt politicians with our Proposition system, where we passed Proposition 215 - the country's first medical marijuana initiative. Now a dozen other states have followed suit. I grew up in Cleveland's western suburbs, and know that you guys aren't as fortunate! Where did we go wrong as a country? It didn't start out that way - as this famous quote from Abraham Lincoln shows! "Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded." Abraham Lincoln (1809-65), U.S. President. Marin bus route changes summarized
Since we can't afford to maintain current bus service - it sounds like the only answer is to build a Billion dollar plus train line that runs 8 times a day during commute hours from Larkspur Landing to Sonoma county! :) LOL (Monday Nov 16 | post #1)
Changes to Marin Transit bus service approved
"I'm really sad to do this ... it's kind of tragic that we're faced with cutting service instead of expanding it," said Marin County Supervisor Charles McGlashan. Now that is a sentance that the Marin IJ will be able to cut and paste many times in the future. So-called-SMART Train 2014 - "I'm really sad to do this ... it's kind of tragic that we're faced with cutting service instead of expanding it," said Marin County Supervisor Charles McGlashan. Marin Energy Authority - 2013 - "I'm really sad to do this ... it's kind of tragic that we're faced with cutting service instead of expanding it," said Marin County Supervisor Charles McGlashan. Marin General Hospital - 2012 - "I'm really sad to do this ... it's kind of tragic that we're faced with cutting service instead of expanding it," said Marin County Supervisor Charles McGlashan. The only thing that McGlashan will greatly expand for Marin taxpayers is their taxes and financial liability! (Monday Nov 16 | post #1)
Canal concept a blueprint to revitalize waterfront
Why the snarky question? I think that Kitty's suggestion is a good one - and I asked the question of what it would take to make it happen. If it can be done at a profit - then it may well be a great new idea for one of those very local marine businesses that already have a presence there. If it can't - if it costs 1/1,000th of what is being proposed - Maybe it is still a good idea! I was offering support to exploring what seems like a good idea - Not offering charity or the capital to build it! (Saturday Nov 14 | post #31)

I think that's a great idea! What would it take to get it done? (Saturday Nov 14 | post #27)

Northgate celebrates grand 'reopening' Thursday
A hit and miss remake, in my opinion. I do remember this shopping center before it became an enclosed Mall - which brought to into the 1980's. It had grown dated - and was struggling - and so the remake is welcome. I do like the glass ceiling (how many times can they mention "clerestory windows"?) and many of the details, like the lights, against the rather austere industrial look. However - and this is a Big However - the Fake second story balcony in front of the Fake, white plastic, backlit windows looks ridiculous! It is totally incongrueous with the gritty reality of the exposed girder, ventilation ducts, concrete etc. look. Also, the western side that has the Chipolte Grill, wireless stores etc. - has the afternoon sun beating directly on their windows - making it difficult to even see through them. I hope they have a UV coating and insulation, otherwise the sun damage to the interior will be substantial. Also, there are no awnings, let alone a covered sidewalk - and so they will get no walk byes in rainy weather. Again, I thought that there would be at least a covered walkway between the main Mall and Kohls - but in rainy weather (like Christmas shopping season) -you'll just have to bundle up! I hope it works out for them! There are some nice new shopping and dining options there. (Thursday Nov 12 | post #3)
Marin Energy Authority considers working with San Francisco cou...
Officials with the Marin Energy Authority have begun exploratory talks with their counterparts in San Francisco about possible collaboration. Marin County Supervisor Charles McGlashan said he called San Francisco Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi last week. ( Hey IJ, Charley McGlashen in not a plural "officials ". He IS a power mad megalomaniac who, according to a previous IJ story, has already pledged $60 million of Marin taxpayer money on his insane project with an "end game" far beyond its original intention! Mirkarimi said, "... We've been very impressed with the direction that Marin has been going." (If San Francisco's politobureau - aka the board of Stupidvisors loves the Marin Energy Authority - that pretty much tells you all that you need to know!) Mirkarimi said, "Strictly brainstorming. " (I think he means brainWASHING). But Mirkarimi added, "I'm sure we'll stay in close contact because our programs are being similarly birthed..." (Think Rosemary's baby! - or does he just mean through political backroom dealing by unelected appointees?) McGlashan said, "We'll probably try to get the experts together at some point in the next couple months." (Sorry, Charlie - the only "experts " on this Boondoggle are expert Con-men!) Another day - another story - and another reason to Stop this Boondoggle Now! (Wednesday Nov 11 | post #1)

Suspect jailed after Mill Valley woman foils break-in
The short answer is - Yes! I took a day long course in handgun use through a local gun club, and the trainer was a well qualified instructor who also trains police SWAT police officers. He brought up this subject in the class, and said that you DO have this right. HOWEVER - these caveats apply! The perp must have broken into your premises. This is to say, if you open the door to - say - a solicitor - and they then force their way into your home - your case is dramatically diminished - because you opened the door to them! There really must be evidence of forced entry - a broken door or window. Also - you only have a right to stop - not to kill or to wound. The most effective way to do this is to place a shot in the center of mass - the center of the chest. (which most likely will kill them - effectively stopping them) You have NO right to shoot to wound! If they are not enough of a threat to stop completely - they are not enough of a threat to shoot at all - do not aim for a leg or arm. DO NOT fire a "warning " shot - legally that means that you fired first - and missed! If they have forcibly entered your home - you have every right to expect that they will turn and injure you at any moment - and so - YES - you can shoot them in the back. This advice does NOT mean that you will not have to face a trial in court. I hope that this helps! (Friday Nov 6 | post #23)
Suspect jailed after Mill Valley woman foils break-in
It certainly is less harmful than the "War on Drugs"! There is no recorded case of a death from marijuana toxicity. Evan water is more dangerous - note the jury verdict regarding the Sacramento radio station contest that lead to the woman's death from acute water intoxication" in their "Wee for a Wii" contest. I quote that notorious "Liberal " :) William F. Buckley from the 2-26-1996 issue of the National Review "So what has the war done? It has made a mockery of an anti-drug law that is simply ignored by millions; it has induced violent felonies in pursuit of drug profits; and it is self-evidently powerless to do anything about the recent increase in marijuana use by reckless adolescents. It is a pity that men and women of the moral and intellectual character of William Bennett treat drug legalization as the moral equivalent of moral acquiescence in drug abuse, when other reasons for repealing our stupid laws are so clearly articulated, primary among them to relieve NON-drug users from the heavy load they bear in the phony and ineffective war." Marin Energy Authority approves draft contract
This is a big milestone," said Marin County Supervisor Charles McGlashan. No Charley, the word is MILLSTONE! This is shaping up to be a BIG economic MILLSTONE around the neck of Marin's taxpayers! "McGlashan has estimated the savings in government penalties for the county and Marin municipalities could amount to $262 million." Sorry, Charley - that is a ridiculous assertion. What "greenhouse gas" spewing power plants located in Marin are we going to fined for? "Weisz said the dozen companies that submitted bids in July all provided "indicative prices," but that those prices change quickly, like mortgage rates." And so, we now learn that MEA is getting in bed with the world's largest foreign PetroChemical conglomerate - because they won't promise, but provide "indicative " sales pitches that they MAY be able to be competitive with PG&E. Any Marin politician who has their fingerprints on this MILLSTONE around the taxpayer's necks - will ultimately destroy their political careers in this County - because there is NO question about IF this will work - only how BIG of a financial CATASTROPHE it will become before being ended. Questions raised about Shell Energy's desirability as Marin bus...
Hi! Thanks for your kind comments. I do try and back up my opinions with facts and sources, and when I can - a little humor:) I am relatively new to the forum (although not Marin) - my first post was in early June - and I had not seen anyone else using this name before. Strange with that isp thing. Most of my posts say isp Mill Valley, although my last one said United States and I have seen San Rafael before. The e-mail address that I listed with this site is through a Berkeley company - although my current internet service is through Comcast - in San Rafael. I like your art work - is there a story behind it? (Tuesday Nov 3 | post #20)
Questions raised about Shell Energy's desirability as Marin bus...
Hitting the "sauce" a little early today, I see! Considering the historic context of the term in question - it's a little ironic to talk about "royalties ", don't you think? Considering that all we know about you is that your isp shows up as Los Angeles, and that you don't have the "cajones " to make your comments public, or to at least let the audience know where you are from or when you joined Topix - you have no claim to the moniker. I am "Off with their Heads!" - San Anselmo. So there - sue me! (I also have the cool Avatar of a sword wielding knight!):) (Tuesday Nov 3 | post #16)
Marin pioneering new 'smart' energy highway
You are repeating youself across marin Energy Authority stories. Following Lenins adage of repeat a lie enough times, and people will believe it,I guess. I grew up in NE Ohio. Ohio gets the vast majority of it's electricty from burning COAL. My great grandfather was a coal miner! I have swum in water filled abandoned strip mines! NOPEC buys electricity produced from coal fired plants in Aggregate. THAT is how they get their cost savings. In the entire country - only Portland, OR and Seattle, WA get less days of sunshine than NE Ohio. They are NOT solar powered! Trying to have an intelligent discussion on energy issues with "Greenies ", eco-extremists or anti-nuclear hysterics is like trying to discuss philosophy or religion with "Moonies " or "Hare Krishnas". All circular arguments, faith based "beliefs " and no rational analysis. (Monday Nov 2 | post #26)
