Religious Coalition for the Freedom to Marry to Hold Interfaith...
Why can't Xians understand that marriage is a legal contract between a couple and The State? It is "...by the power vested in me by the state of [insert one of fifty]..." that the clergy is even allowed to perform a marriage. Any religious ceremony is OPTIONAL; the legal marriage being licensed and confirmed by The State! (Monday Nov 2 | post #8)
There are two St. Bernard dogs (one male and one female) that are let out by their owner to roam our neighborhood (High St./Maple St./Main St./Free St. in Lisbon Falls) almost every night. They're nice dogs -- and even get along well with the cats in the neighborhood -- but they're causing a problem for us. Whether it's because of hard economic times or because there are so many transient renters in this area, there are a lot of abandoned cats around here too. These are NOT feral cats; they're abandoned domesticated cats who have no hunting skills. So, rather than see them starve, we put food on our back steps for them in the evening. Now, the St. Bernards are eating the food that we set out for the cats -- and we can't afford to feed St. Bernards. They eat like horses! Lisbon Animal Control is notoriously cruel and inhumane (that's the word around Lisbon Falls), so I do NOT want to call them! Who else can I call for assistance in this area? I don't want to see any of these animals be taken to a pound; I want someone "in authority" to deal with the owner of the dogs (who, according to neighbors, lives in a yellow house on High St.). The dogs appear to be malnourished and it's irresponsible of their human to let them run loose around town. (Oct 16, 2009 | post #1)
What Restaurant do we neeed off m-59
"What restaurant do we need OFF M-59?" Do you mean, "What restaurant needs to be REMOVED from M-59?" BTW, your E key is sticking. (Aug 15, 2009 | post #7)
During the last few years, I've had several occasions to telephone the Lisbon Police Department to request a patrol car come through our neighborhood, to ask a general question about legality (parking, etc.), or to report something I had observed. Each time, I've been greeted with the same question, "What is your emergency?" I didn't dial an "emergency " number. I called the seven digit telephone number that's supposed to ring a Department of the Town of Lisbon! If I had a life-or-death "emergency ", I would have dialed 9-1-1. Instead of humiliating (bullying) tax-paying callers like that, the LPD would do better to ask, "Is this an emergency?" (Aug 13, 2009 | post #1)
why do the people of jeff county smell like that.
A "fowl" odor? You mean they smell like chickens? What do you have against poultry? Oh, you mean a foul odor! Why didn't you say so? (Jul 17, 2009 | post #7)

That was Mauss School on Sutterville Hill; right? I remember going with her before the sun came up so she could light a fire in the pot-belly stove to warm the school before her "pupils" arrived (May 28, 2009 | post #5)
More than once, I'm told, my grandma tipped over her Model T taking that uphill turn across the tracks too fast on her way to teach at Canniff School! She walked back to my grandfather's tavern and got some men to set the car back up on its wheels -- and she was on her way again. (She drove with a lead foot to the end (May 14, 2009 | post #4)
My great-grandfather, George Limestall, founded the town of Fults on land from the Fults farm. He named it Brownsburg but there was already another town by that name in Illinois and the mail got mixed up, so the name was changed to Fults after 1899. He owned the Limestall & Bradshaw General Store (next to Jost's Saloon) on Front Street (before it was "Main Street"). Yes, I knew Fults when Fults was Fults! Maybe my grandmother was your teacher, Fred? (Grant, Sutterville, Canniff, and Cedar Bluff (May 14, 2009 | post #3)
