Let me rephrase that: They can either stand up for what their hearts tell them is good an holy, or they can submit to the dictates of another group that, frankly, isn't affected by their choice. I'm glad that the Episcopal church has the courage to implement overdue change. But the Archbishop of Canterbury cowers at the wrath of the orthodox. Nobody likes discord, and it's a shame to see the Anglican Church splinter. Yet this will be the price of change this year, next year, next decade. Notice: There are already twice as many states recognizing equality than there were at the beginning of the year. And there were twice as many at the end of 2008 as there were at the beginning. So Judge Erlbaum ignores the physical injuries inflicted on Ms Giraldo because he can't determine what happened back in their apartment? Let's see: We have a video tape of Monserrate violently dragging Giraldo through the lobby, and she shows up at the hospital with substantial injuries. And there are no other suspects in the crime--which the judge isn't quite sure actually happened. The best way to proceed is to kick a few Democrats and a lot of Republicans to the curb next election. What happened in the NY Senate is a purely Republican phenomenon. Yeah, several Democrats voted against marriage equality. But you'll never see Democrats all coming to the same conclusion on anything. But Republican party discipline overrode doing the best thing for constituents in this and many other votes. I hope a huge segment of the electorate is just as fed up with Republican intransigence as I am. We don't elect leaders to be Rush Limbaugh lemmings. We elect them to think, evaluate, and do the best thing for their constituents. Republicans have shown they're incapable of doing that.  (14 hrs ago | post #2)

Gay House members say gay-friendly bills are near

Employment non-discrimination , domestic partner benefits, and Don't Ask Don't Tell are a lot more than crumbs. They are central pieces of the fight for equality. Yeah, they've been a long time coming. That does not diminish the accomplishment when these bills do pass. Let us support our representatives and senators who are working to make that day soon.
