I just wonder why he'd be sticking it to the christians here in the bible belt so much recently. Could it be a sign? :p But it sounds a lot like nature to me. In any group, there will be christians and nons. It's not as if individuals walk around with clouds over their heads or anything, so obviously if it rains in the vicinity of a group, then all get rained on. Logical, no? (Sep 12, 2008 | post #24137)
Can society survive without religious structure?
Hey Cherokee! Thanks for putting the link on the other thread. All I did was click it and somehow I got my old name back, but I can't sign in with it. Go figure. (Jun 4, 2008 | post #1966)
Can society survive without religious structure?
Society can not only survive without religious structure, it is necessary for the divisions of religion to become obsolete if society itself is to survive. One case to make this point is UK and the way the Islamic culture has imposed its religious doctrine on the people there. For example, the slaughter of sheep is allowed for one of their religious feasts so as not to breach their rights to worship. Our courts will no doubt be debating cases like this soon, if they already aren't in some places. The question, in this particular case, would be if a person's first amendment right to freedom of religion overrides state and federal laws regarding animal rights and health codes. The risks from this could potentially affect many other people; so from my own POV it is not conducive to a free society to allow religious ceremonies which violate any other laws. Sacrificial rites like this have no place in modern society. Any form of religious blood-letting has historically been a sign of cultural and societal lag. If our society is to stay on a progressive course, it must be made clear that one's rights come with the responsibility of exercising those rights while upholding the law in regards to others, animals, property, etc. If the US doesn't make it clear that we will have strictly secular rule of law, then religious freedom will be exploited by the clerics and leaders to the detriment of our society. The *TRUE* Significance of Jesus??
Hi there Darwin! Check it out. I got my old name back when I signed in with the same email addy I've been using for SE. Topix works in mysterious ways for sure. Ha! While I can agree that these revelations you've described can be deemed an expansion of consciousness, I have to wonder if you are limiting the content of that expansion by placing so much emphasis on the man Jesus, divine or not, rather than simply thinking on his teachings and their meanings. You know I don't mean to offend you; it's just that it seems you have so much Biblical imagery going on, that the visions and revelations seem to be based on it. Maybe it's partly subconscious and completely unintentional. I mean we can hardly say for sure if Jesus even existed, given the forgeries claimed to be the writing of Josephus and such, much less the astrological number of 12 disciples...not that you mentioned a number. Don't get me wrong, I believe a man existed who taught these barbaric (though more civilized after they learned to read and write a language of their own while held captive in Babylon, thank goodness) people great things. Jesus could be a name tacked on later though since the first writings of his followers came well after his death. This is one reason that calling on the name of Jesus really means nothing to me. If I were to do that, I'd have to call on Yeshua, the original Hebrew name. Seems disrespectful IMO not to, if one is truly to revere him. However, you already know I don't see Jesus as divine, but a highly intelligent, ethically inclined...yeah, enlightened....ind ividual. BTW, have you read any of the Gnostic texts at all? As I told you on the other thread, I found some little old things I had written, and I'll throw them together and give you my view on the significance of Jesus. I'll put it together and post it tomorrow.....as long as I don't get called in to work AGAIN on Saturday. BUT the phones are being unplugged before I hit the hay, so I'm not even trying to answer in the morning. Oh, it is already morning, my bad. LOL (Mar 1, 2008 | post #390)
PROOF BARACK OBAMA IS THE ANTI-CHRIST, read on
Wow! Never saw you go off on a tangent quite like that at all. Though I can't possibly condone the hate from either side, I did enjoy reading your rant a bit. Peace... (Mar 1, 2008 | post #1058)
This forum is pro Islamic, be careful what you post
Apparently, you've never been to LA to make such an estimation. Noone cares about Muhammad down here. But many would be riled if Christianity was made fun of publically. (Aug 23, 2007 | post #86)
Should Black People Forgive White People for Slavery?
yes, and the Irish had to stay in their section of town also, like The Irish Channel. Since there were also many Irish slaves, one must wonder just how slavery can be blamed for today's situation in the ghetto. (Jun 13, 2007 | post #136)
More calls for socialism from Hillary
The media in this country is lacking true journalism to say the least. Noone pays attention to the details any more; unless of course, it's what Paris Hilton said from her jail cell. As for politics, too many people just pay attention to rhetoric to make their decisions and little, if anything, else. Then again, this is just MO from my own experience. But Hitlery will never be elected anyway....I hope, at least! (Jun 12, 2007 | post #11)
Should Black People Forgive White People for Slavery?
How about: Should blacks forgive themselves and their own descendants for their ancestors' roles in selling them off to slavery? If one hates any other, then one isn't really free after all, but bound by those he hates. (Jun 12, 2007 | post #68)
Thank you for demonstrating that anti-Bible is not equal to anti-God. Your post makes it clear that although you hold beliefs against Bible doctrine, such as only some poor people deserve help, you still believe in God. (Jun 9, 2007 | post #274)
Probably because Michelangelo was ticked off at the Pope for commissioning him to paint instead of sculpt....just a thought. But seriously, us women had to be demonized as the bad ones or else the whole religion would fall apart as an oppressive measure. Lilith has been brought up; so are you getting at that the one above her would be the devil in question here? Would it be the one who sent Lilith to wreak havoc and seduce men in their sleep? The Cross originates with Barbarians
What difference does it really make which name you call it by? All religions have been used for the purposes of oppressing and killing people, just as any other organized group of barbarians under any other guise. It's not the religion itself, it's people in general. When prejudice prevails, mankind pays the price. (Jun 9, 2007 | post #48)
The Cross originates with Barbarians
In other words, you agree with changing the definition to fit your purposes then, as the original meaning of "pagan" denotes a simple, country dweller, a rustic person. In the times you speak of, the pagans who were railed against were those people who weren't in the city and partaking of the traditions there. The city people thought the country dwellers were stupid and ignorant for not believing and behaving as they did. Now we have a completely different meaning where the shoe has changed feet, and those who you call pagan, weren't pagan at all. "Pagan" has no religious connotations, except of course, for those that have been injected into the word thereby changing the meaning altogether. You would more than likely have been on the pagan side in those ancient times. Funny, huh..... (Jun 9, 2007 | post #47)
HPV - would you have your daughter be vaccinated against this?
After all the info I've seen, my daughter will not be taking this vaccine. I'll also be doing some 'lobbying' of my own against what seems to be no more than a guinea pig experiment with the potential to make a bundle of money for a few people while compromising the health of our youth. (Jun 9, 2007 | post #143)
HPV - would you have your daughter be vaccinated against this?
No they can't. There are no tests for men comparable to a Pap smear for women. Men can have HPV and carry it without ever knowing until cancer pops up. (Jun 9, 2007 | post #142)
