Rush hour traffic in Alameda

Yes, it's an issue. There are currently no plans to add additional access points from Alameda to Oakland, yet there are plans for as many as 2000 or more new homes going up on Alameda Point at the old Naval Air Station. The local papers, Alameda Journal and Alameda Sun, tend to minimize the problem in their reporting. Public Displays of Nooses are Racially Insensitive and Do Not Belong in Alameda Dear Alameda City Council, With the recent events at the University of Maryland (http://www.abcnew s.go.com/US/story? id=3580350&pag e=1) and Alexandria, Louisiana (http://www.cnn.co m/2007/US/09/21/ca r.nooses/index.htm l?iref=newssearch) the "Noose" in the local parody web site "Alameda Daily Noose" is no longer funny. Why, the operators of this blog have gone so far as to display their own nooses and gallows here http://alamedadail ynoose.blogspot.co m/2007/09/janice-l ighter-merv-knows- how-to-handle.html in this story which is making fun of Measure A supporters. I know that I can take the heat parody of my positions on local issues, and I'm sure Don Roberts of the Alameda Daily News can as well, but enough already with the gallows (literally) so-called humor. Even if the intention were not malicious, it certainly shows a lack of taste and sensitivity to current issues and issues of race in general, and the perpetrators should certainly NOT be leading public opinion online, or anywhere else. As a Measure A supporter, and a man married to a woman of color, with a child the product of that union, shall I expect the operators of the "Alameda Daily Noose" to show up at my door at midnight with a pick-up truck trailing three nooses made of electrical cord to drag me to some gallows out at Alameda Point? Ah, but who indeed, are the operators of this blog. There is plenty of evidence on other area blogs to suggest that any or all of the following people could be behind this parody web site: City of Alameda Transportation Commissioner Chair, John Knox White, who lists the "Alameda Daily Noose" on his blog, City of Alameda Transportation Commissioner Michael Krueger, who recently spoke disparagingly of "the Don Roberts" crowd in an Alameda Journal article or their friends and cohorts, the husband and wife team of Lauren Do and Ben Kruger who list it on their "Blogging Bayport" blogroll. To cap it off, all of these people know full well from my blog during last year's election cycle that I am part of a mixed-race family. City Council needs to investigate this, and if indeed anyone on the Transportation Commission is behind what has now become a sick-joke, they need to be called before City Council to account for their actions. Perhaps the police even need to investigate this as a hate crime. At the very least, they need to stop with the nooses and change the name of their blog, and remove this article on "Measure Acorn." P.S. Not to mention that the pairing of the gallows and nooses with this phrase "Sure, they SAY they are only looking at removing moldy old language from the city charter, like the provision for the "Secret Police Fund," established by an enthusiastic and very snappily dressed group of German immigrants in 1937. Well, first of all, I'm not entirely sure we should get rid of the Secret Police." referencing Hitler's Germany leading up to the extermination of 6 million Jews is insensitive to people of Jewish descent and possibly anti-semetic.  (Sep 24, 2007 | post #1)
