School district unveils wish list

I'm assuming the list includes "Thank you voters" signs, just like that massive waste of money Measure Y. I will be voting no on measure TT.  (Friday | post #2)

Supports PUSD measure

Will the "Thank you voters for measure TT" cost twice as much because there are two letters? After seeing the fiasco of Measure Y, which was supposed to fix ALL of this stuff, I can't bring myself to vote for a measure that costs three times as much for over 10% fewer students. The pro-TT people keep saying, "but no, THIS time it will be different!" As it has been said, fool me once...etc.  (Monday Oct 6 | post #1)

Frank Girardot: Litter bug finds lots of company

Take care of yourself Frank, and stop worrying about others. What a terrible lesson you are teaching if that's what you preach to your kids (if you have any) and other young kids you may know. I teach my kids to throw away and pick up their own stuff. They don't need to think about other buffoons who don't care about the world around them. They learn by example. Talking about other people's litter problem is a terrible example. Clean up after your own.  (Thursday Oct 2 | post #4)

Measure TT will spur repairs at schools

I would love to see some stats. The only stat I've seen is that enrollment has dropped 12.73%. Does anyone have any figures on employment in PUSD, preferably broken down by type? I would fully expect that teachers and support staff have been cut, while administrators have not. I may be wrong, I just haven't seen any other numbers.  (Wednesday Oct 1 | post #10)

Measure TT will spur repairs at schools

So enrollment is down more than 10% in the past 8 years, and they still need portable classrooms in places? With fewer people trusting their kids to this terrible district, shouldn't they look at consolidating to the best-maintained schools and keeping those schools properly maintained? I suspect nothing else got cut 10% in that 8 year period, especially administrators and consultants. I, for one, will be voting no.  (Wednesday Oct 1 | post #7)

Oil in Alaska

I wish Mr. Gray had named the city or agency that pulled him over. Nothing like a little bit of local outrage to shake things up!  (Friday Sep 12 | post #2)

Bumpy Crossing

Speaking from the bottom of Casitas, and the fact that I don't think school is currently in session, I can testify to the fact that the stop sign at Ventura is treated as optional by those Southbound on Casitas. Granted, that's true for much of Los Angeles, but I know that Casitas is used as just another section of freeway by people from the North.  (Aug 7, 2008 | post #18)

Invest in preschool

Wow! A CEO for preschool is in favor of preschool! This is a shock! So preschool prepares kids for the factory of public education. Excellent. They will make perfect worker drones as they get older.  (Aug 5, 2008 | post #2)

Bumpy Crossing

I live blocks away from this development, and I still don't see the point of it. Actually I would see the point, if there were decent stores there, but as it is, I drive to La Caņada to do my grocery shopping. Farm Fresh is an overpriced joke, and I've only gone there a couple times in emergencies. Paying a buck more for an item is OK for a single thing, but I'd never do my regular shopping there. I thought with the rich folk moving into La Viņa ("We speed down Casitas"), that NW Altadena would get some better services, but apparently not.  (Aug 5, 2008 | post #5)

Commitment to PUSD

I will be voting AGAINST the bond measure for PUSD, since the district seems incapable of getting its act together. I voted for measure Y, and almost immediately regretted it, when each school hoisted those huge "Thank you voters for passing measure Y" signs in front. I voted for school improvement, not signs. There was a letter-writer a few weeks ago, a student as a matter of fact, who wrote about his experience. A lot of money can be thrown at making things look nice or having slick teaching "tools," but having a good teacher will always trump that. There are a reason so many teachers become home-schoolers; they see a public education system that doesn't work.  (Aug 1, 2008 | post #2)

Frank Girardot: ATM 'skimmers' making inroads

My thoughts exactly. This was just a scare article without helpful advice or details. I live in Altadena; did I use a skimming ATM? Here's a good site with basic skimming information: http://banking.abo ut.com/od/security andsafety/a/skimme rs.htm  (Jul 29, 2008 | post #2)
