Mussina in top form as Yankees beat Rays -- Newsday
If you think Mussina should be pitching like a #2 starter then OK, maybe its right for you to be dissapointed. But, if he can have a handful of these type of starts and 10 or 12 starts like he had his last time out, he will win 12-15 games this year. The Yanks need him to be a 4th starter (Kennedy being the 5th), they don't need him to be a stopper and they don't need him to throw 7 shutout innings with 10 K's. He needs to keep the Yankees in striking distance for 6 innings and he's done that in both games he's pitched so far. Once the offense starts to click again there will be many more games like this. The Yanks will get 18 wins out of Wang this year, they'll get 12-15 wins out of pettite, they'll get 12-15 out of hughes. Since Kennedy looks shaky right now (maybe 9 or 10 wins), another 12-15 out of mussina means your rotation is winning 64-73 games this year. (Apr 8, 2008 | post #5)
Blue Jays put a chill on Yankees, Mussina -- Baseball, Alex Rod...
Also, Beltran's great for looking at breaking balls to lose an LCS Before you can make the Beltran/A-Rod post-season comparison, Beltran has to play well enough to carry his team TO the postseason. (Apr 4, 2008 | post #15)
Blue Jays put a chill on Yankees, Mussina -- Baseball, Alex Rod...
A-Rod already hit the 400-foot home run to make it 5-2...I guess you think he should score every Yankees run? Everyone else, chill out with the whole Mussina thing. Without Giambi's error, Mussina pitched well enough to get a win for the Yankees. 4 earned runs a start over 30 starts will get Moose 15 wins this season. Burnett for some reason kills the Yanks everytime he faces them, they really need Pettite in that 2 spot against pitchers like this. Mussina should be matched up with a pitcher (on the Jays, for example) like Marcum. The 4th or 5th starter. It's all about matchups. Once Andy comes back, the rotation needs to change...Wang, Pettite, Hughes, Mussina/Kennedy (Apr 3, 2008 | post #9)
Canseco goes after A-Rod in new book -- Sports, Chicago White S...
Its an idea, but; 1. I don't think A-Rod cares 2. Canseco didn't say anything to warrant a defamation suit from A-Rod. btw...I don't know why Canseco is so torn up about A-Rod "coveting his wife..." Canseco mustve cheated on her dozens of times while they were married. But if anyone's ever seen the playboy where Canseco's ex gets naked, one can see why A-Rod found her attractive...she is unbelievable (Mar 26, 2008 | post #96)
Canseco goes after A-Rod in new book -- Sports, Chicago White S...
You're right A-Rod is as vulnerable to blame as any major league player...except the fact that HE WASN'T BLAMED! Canseco never said Rodriguez took sterroids...all he said was that he put A-Rod in contact with a dealer. Note:: Canseco doesn't say who asked for the contact info (whether it was arod or just canseco giving to him as a gesture) or whether or not Canseco identified him as a sterroids dealer (as opposed to a trainer) when giving the info to A-Rod. The fact that he was proven to be correct in some aspects in his last book begs the question; knowing he would probably be more believable now after the mitchell report, why didn't Canseco just say A-Rod took sterroids to sell more books? I mean if he's just out for money, a statement like that would sell a hell of a lot more books, I think. The only thing that sticks out in my mind is that either Canseco wants to stay out of the legal process involved with baseball's investigation, or he really doesn't know anything about A-Rod's sterroids use and only mentioned what he could about him to sell as many books as possible. **if it comes out that A-Rod himself called or contacted the trainer, I mean, then he is in trouble (Mar 26, 2008 | post #81)
Canseco goes after A-Rod in new book -- Sports, Chicago White S...
While Canseco was proven to be a somewhat reliable source on the sterroids issue this past fall, if all he says about A-Rod is that he "put him in contact" with a sterroids dealer, then that it pretty thin. Canseco could have been putting him in contact with a trainer who also dealt sterroids for the purposes of a workout session...not nessecarily sterroid use. Remember when the story came out that Tom Brady was put in contact with Greg Anderson of Balco and it was regarding a workout? If any word comes out that A-Rod came into contact with whoever the trainer is then he is in trouble...but for now, he really shouldnt be in too much hot water. Canseco's last book turned out to be true to an extent, but he did make bolder claims about players who took sterroids. If Canseco had truthful information about A-Rod's sterroid use this time, why not go into more detail? As for the whole wife thing...See Major League; i.e. when Dorn's wife goes after Vaughn to get back at her husband for cheating on her (Mar 26, 2008 | post #80)

Okposo's debut only excitementin Isles' loss
Why would you stay at Minnesota when you hated your coach, he had you playing the wrong position, your team blew and you had a professional hockey franchise waiting? Probably not. I can't blame him for leaving (Mar 19, 2008 | post #8)
Why couldn't they give him #12....they're not planning on retiring Chris Simon's number are they? (Mar 18, 2008 | post #1)
Islanders call up Kyle Okposo; debut Tuesday
My point is...no one thought tambellini would be so ineffective and no one thought Comeau would be as effective as he's been based on thier AHL numbers. I know that right now, Oak's AHL numbers are all we have coupled with the skepticism stemming from Tamby's NHL performance. Give him a break for now...I would say give him an offseason, a training camp and a preseason and he should perform. These next 9 games may be an indicator but I don't expect him to do anything. They're not bringing him up because they think he can help the team turn in the right direction...they'r e doing it because they have nothing to lose. They dont care if bridgeport wins anything and Okposo doesnt lose any contract term by playing these 9 games...hell, it doesnt even count towards his rookie year. They just want him to take in the speed of the game. (Mar 17, 2008 | post #34)
Islanders call up Kyle Okposo; debut Tuesday
Tambellini is a leading AHL scorer and has 2 NHL points Blake Comeau has more NHL points this year than he does AHL points...with more games in the AHL Playmaking skills = confidence with the puck The finishing skills will come with experience if he doesn't display them immediately. The fact that he's got the confidence to move the puck and get teammates involved says something. Esp. since he'll be one of the more physical players on the team. Every power forward on the team now has rocks for hands. (Mar 17, 2008 | post #27)
Islanders Insider: Time for Kyle Okposo era to begin
The NHL is not going to get a better opportunity to televise a game where the battle is going on on the ice AND in the stands. No where else will there be a 50/50 split with fans that hate each other and teams that hate each other playing in one of the most hallowed stadiums in the world. (Mar 14, 2008 | post #17)
