Boy's recovery 'a miracle' after April rescue from Lake Michigan
God Bless this little guy. Someone should put this family in touch with the kid from back in the 80's who also fell in and miraculously recovered. I remember seeing a feature on him in the recent past. (Wednesday Aug 13 | post #8)

Boy, 3, missing from home in Oswego Township
Back off of his parents, please. He was mobile, and he walked out a door. It's summer-time, the weather is good, and he's seen his older siblings do the very same thing, time and again, during the course of his 3 & 1/2 years. Give the folks some breathing room here--they didn't take him somewhere and not supervise his whereabouts, HE WAS AT HOME. I was thrilled when I heard on WGN radio that they'd found him @ 8:30 this morning. God knows, the kid was just as freaked as his family must have been. Thankfully, this was a happy ending in the face of fright. Again, ease up on the parents. They've been through he## and back over the last 24 hours. I think they deserve some latitude. Consider all the abuse so many children take at the hands of "parents ", intentionally. This was an unforeseeable accidental occurrence. And yes, I am a mother of two who lives on a pond and neither of my girls was allowed in the back yard without me or my husband right there beside them. I completely understand how kids operate, however. We are all only human. (Jul 8, 2008 | post #204)
Beleaguered Chicago labor leader retires
Excuse me, but at the very least, allow me to rip your post apart--as you attempted to do to mine. My children's well care costs me ZERO (labor & delivery, too), their dental costs me ZERO, our (mine & hubby's) medical care costs me ZERO, all prescriptions, ZERO. As of 1-08, smoking cessation programs are paid up to $1000.00/lifetime benefit for each adult on the plan. Oh, and there are nearly a million Americans in this union, I'm hardly one of thousands. WHEN my husband retires, he will have had 30 years in the industry, the previous ten were in a different field, covered by another union. 40 years, by age 60; it's easy math. We live a comfortable life, I make sacrifices to stay home and raise my children. There is nothing that the Unions promote MORE than wage and benefit programs, allowing work to REMAIN in the USA. I DON'T shop at Wal-Mart, and I am conscious of purchasing USA made products over those imported for corporate gains. It's a simple equation, work stays here, money stays here. And unions help the working families do just that, without the worries & frustrations of insurance and retirement costs that rely on a select few to destroy from an ivory tower. Another thing I can do? Compose an entire post without typos and misuse of the English Language. Now, what are you going to throw at me next? (Jun 29, 2008 | post #25)
Beleaguered Chicago labor leader retires
Talk about misinformedAs for your complaint that it doesn't cost $12.00/hour for "crappy" benefits: I haven't paid a dime for my two childrens--or our--medical or dental care since birth, my own well-care is 100% covered, all procedures included. Dermatologists, eye glasses & vision care, nope, not a penny. Try paying for those benefits in the private sector--or even individually. And as for our retirement, after nearly 40 years in the industry, we are on track to retire comfortably. Of course, our retirement comfort will be soley dependent on the price of gas, food, the market in general. But that isn't the unions fault--it's our government's responsibility. George Bush will have no trouble affording retirement-then again, I wish he'd jump into retirement TODAY. (Jun 29, 2008 | post #16)
Iraq veteran discharged for acknowledging he's gay
Insane...the Marines (and all our Military Branches) really have to work though this gay thing and find a common ground to accomodate a modern world. Insane...that our leaders can't acknowledge and honor the service anyone provides on our behalf based on what was done for our nation, rather than what is done in privacy. Insane...that this is even being discussed. Wake up everybody--we're in the real world now. Treat everyone based on their merits. Period. Mr. Obama, your red carpet is being rolled out. Step forward, please. (Jun 27, 2008 | post #42)

Wounded boy's mom wants Weis to apologize
When you play with fire, you'll get burned. As a mother, I agonize for her pain--as a law abiding citizen, I feel for her plight. But to sue the CPD for making a statement toward the responsibility of the child's welfare, unfounded. Lady, I hope your attorney sees fit to educate you on the matters of parenting... United to lay off nearly 1,000 pilots this summer
Well said, Homer, well said!! The Pilots, the Flight Attendants, the Ramp Crew, none of them--or their respective unions--are to blame for the debacle Glenn Tilton has made of this once thriving company. Unfortunately, he is apparently incapable of reading since the posts to his inadequacies on the job have gone unnoticed by he himself. No amount of effort and training, to do the jobs these people have given so much for, is worth being treated like this. If someone sneezes in his Big Mac, I will only hope it is one whose pension has been lost, er stolen. Then the reality of one "honker" to another would truly be poetic justice (Jun 23, 2008 | post #59)
Cigarettes: 1.7 billion pounds of trash
Here's a twist--of the 1.7 million pounds of trash that are made up by these cigarette "butts", now much does that equate to in the tax dollars spent to purchase them. Now, let's work on balancing the damned budgets, from Cook County to the State of Illinois. THEN cry to me about the smokers. Basically, smokers provide more than enough tax money to offset the National Debt. Yet the clowns in office still can't find a way to eliminate the shortfalls and provide the services which have been paid for. THERE'S your 1.7 million pounds of garbage. (Jun 17, 2008 | post #158)
United to charge $15 for first bag
