Agreed, most of us would probably like to see an end to threads that begin with someone's name and ask for dirt--or location, whereabouts, what's she doing these days, is she still doing every man in town, that kind of garbage. Yes, that is trash we could do without. Also with replies that are rude, obscene and otherwise uncalled for, like calling people idiots, retards, welfare cheats and the like. It is perfectly OK to disagree civilly, but there is no need to label people or dismiss them in that manner. Unfortunately there is no admission test for participation in Topix and no way for Topix to remove offenders. Low-lifes like that tend to change their posting names every few minutes too in an effort to create the illusion of strength in numbers. Short of having Topix create an effective user ID system and expel abusers, I don't know what can be done to solve the problem. We have tried truces, but the same bad actors are back at it again 15 minutes later. You are right that bad manners and sabotage have been a continual problem in this forum.  (21 hrs ago | post #26)

One of the first things our FDA did in the "pandemic " was to get Congress to absolve all vaccine manufacturers of liability for any consequences of the flu vaccines. If you made a mistake using "to" instead of "too," it slipped right on by me too. Happens with folks all the time nowadays. Yes, some trash gets posted, but by and large people try to express worthwhile thoughts as best they can. A few do deliberately try to be stupid I'll grant you, and some can't help it. Most people are serious in an informal sort of way. We also attempt to have a little fun once in a while as well. You need to learn the difference and not be easily confused.  (Wednesday | post #10)

Okay makes a couple of good points, Slim Jim. People's manners are not always high class, but we have had some good discussions. If you do not find anything that is not "trash" as you put it, maybe Topix is not for you. I for one do not consider myself trash. I am well educated, experienced in science and engineering, own my own nice home and am a reasonably good citizen. I've paid my dues to society several times over and have much more than earned my right to use my retirement time as I see fit.  (Wednesday | post #4)

Don't forget, they werent even testing to see which cases were swine flu, which regular type A flu and which not flu at all. Available test data shows most cases of "swine flu" were not even flu at all. That means all their pronouncements about extent and severity are meaningless.
