I have lived in Silver City since April of 2003, but first visited back in 1997. I feel lucky that I had an opportunity-- I could have lived anywhere, but this is where I chose to be.
Chamber recall group against amendment
I wouldn't worry too much about the Chamber folding because of people canceling their membership. In the sixteen months or so that Nicole was director, the membership increased by 40%-- which, to my way of thinking, should have been one good reason to retain her. And if you're that concerned about the future of the Chamber, I hope that you'll become a member. (10 hrs ago | post #7)
Chamber recall group against amendment
I'll answer you the same way I answered the last person in these forums who blamed it all on the former director: "Why is it that people are fixated on Nicole? If you actually talk to any Ad Hoc Committee member, they will tell you that the situation has gone far, far beyond Nicole and what she did or didn't do, or what she said or didn't say. What the Committee is about is that the Chamber Board has simply forgotten or ignored their obligation to the membership that elected (some of) them. (Now might be a good time to mention that several Chamber Board members were appointed to their posts rather than elected... including one who was appointed after having failed to get elected after several tries at it.) When Chamber members tried to discuss Nicole's departure with the Board, they were given a total of fifteen minutes to speak... at which point they were told that the Board had already made up their mind and had no intention of changing it for anybody. Here's a question for you, one you don't even need to be a Chamber member or even an area resident to think about: why is the new interim director of the Chamber of Commerce the SEVENTH person to hold that post in the past 5 years????? Obviously the Chamber Board has been problematic since well before Nicole moved to the area." (Friday Oct 3 | post #5)
Silver City banks still doing business as usual
At least I can do arithmetic. You, on the other hand, probably have to take your shoes off if you want to count to 20. (Friday Oct 3 | post #4)
Silver City banks still doing business as usual
If you're going to make idiotic statements, at least do some elementary-school arithmetic first. 700 billion dollars divided by 305 million people in the US works out to $2295.08 per person; 1 million dollars to each person in the US works out to 305 TRILLION dollars. I'd probably respect your opinion a whole lot more if you actually knew what you were talking about. (Wednesday Oct 1 | post #2)
Chamber of Commerce Director Nicole Robbins resigns
The vicious rumor you are trying to spread that the Ad Hoc Committee is trying to change the name of the Visitor Center is simply untrue. Why is it that people are fixated on Nicole? If you actually talk to any Ad Hoc Committee member, they will tell you that the situation has gone far, far beyond Nicole and what she did or didn't do, or what she said or didn't say. Trans-Lux Reports Planned Sale of Entertainment Division
Gee, what a surprise-- two more people from Queen Creek magically appear. What I really dislike about this forum is that anybody can create multiple aliases without even the most rudimentary of system checks for valid e-mail, duplicate IP address or any validation scheme at all. As a result, the usual level of discourse is that of stoner teens who use text talk as their excuse for an inability to make themselves understood by anyone with an IQ larger than their shoe size. Gee, Whoop-de-freakin-doo, why don't you ask ler56? It's as simple as looking in the mirror. You both indicate that you're from Queen Creek, AZ and neither one of you can spell or type worth a darn, so if you are not the same person, I'll bet you're pretty close. (Aug 5, 2008 | post #6)
Denny's or Furrs Bufett moving into 'Old Golden Corral' building.
This was mentioned in the August issue of Desert Exposure in the "Table Talk" column. You can pick up a copy at many businesses in Grant County and beyond, or you can read about it online at: http://www.deserte xposure.com/200808 /200808_table_talk .php (Aug 5, 2008 | post #2)
Trans-Lux Reports Planned Sale of Entertainment Division
What it means is that Marwit Capital has six months to decide whether they will buy the property from Trans-Lux. If they don't buy it in six months, Trans-Lux can sell it to someone else. (Aug 5, 2008 | post #4)

Trans-Lux Reports Planned Sale of Entertainment Division
According to a Trans-Lux press release, the entire Entertainment division was sold to private equity firm Marwit Capital of Newport Beach, CA effective July 15th. Marwit Capital also has a six-month option to purchase the raw land from the company in Silver City, New Mexico. That's where things stand at the moment. (Aug 4, 2008 | post #2)

Chamber board accepts new director's resignation
Hey, Julie: Where did you get the idea that one of the Chamber members wants Nicole's job? Frankly, nobody in their right mind wants her job-- she's ridiculously underpaid, overworked, and is the sixth person to hold that position in the past 5 years. I would venture a guess that there isn't one person on the Chamber Board who isn't already making more money that Nicole made (and at least three of them are already retired). I support Nicole 100%, but geez-- where do you people get this stuff, anyway? (Jul 25, 2008 | post #7)
