Advertiser opts not to endorse any candidate for presiden...

That's what they CHOSE to do. The real shame and crime in this country is that people (whoever they are) cannot feel free to make their own best decisions without the immediate judgment, condemnation and personal attacks of those who have nothing better to do in their meaningless lives but to tell everybody else in the world what to think and how to live their lives. "That's the disease of the mass media, and what newspaper editorializing has become -- this abuse of opinion without bothering to learn any facts. Probably the greatest handicap of Hawaii culture and indoctrination is this terrible demand for conformity to what the political/union bosses and their surrogates, the teachers, think the rest of society must do to preserve their status at the top of society -- even at the expense of everything else in society. Thus Hawaii has become a hopeless quagmire of special interests that only Democrats and trial lawyers would love. So actually, no endorsement is a huge improvement from an ill-conceived one.  (Nov 4, 2008 | post #16)

Hotel occupancy dips to lowest since 9/11 - Hawaii News

With tourism in the toilet, all that Hawaii needs now is for (President) Obama to follow through on his promise to slash the military (budget), and with a deluxe rail system the citizens can't afford, it's lights out in Hawaii, and everyone in the bike lane, grass shacks, subsistence farming. Just like the good ol' days.  (Nov 3, 2008 | post #9)

No easy sledding after mayor's race regardless of victor ...

First, you people need to get the current city administration out of there, since they're "doing all that is possible," while the problems of Honolulu grow out of control. "Rail" is not going to solve all the Island's problems -- so it's time to get administrators who will address the very real problems Honolulu faces -- and do something about it besides hiring more public relations experts at millions of dollars to convince everybody that everything is working beautifully, and this is the best of all possible worlds, heaven on earth, paradise, etc. You get enough of that crap in the media, you don't need it in your government -- especially at the highest levels of public trust. You can change that all this week -- by getting rid of these clowns that do nothing but convince you that you don't deserve any better than the garbage they're serving you, which the newspaper editors are proud to endorse and sell you out for so they can continue to live in the luxury they have grown accustomed to.  (Nov 2, 2008 | post #6)

Levinson's retirement brings conflict for replacement - E...

If the newspapers don't take the lead in making it a petty, partisan process -- then maybe all of Hawaii can rise for one brief shining moment and elect somebody beyond the political shenanigans that **** Hawaii as a mature, thoughtful and just place to be. Don't you guys ever get tired of reporting about all the abuses of power and common sensibilities. I hope they can find an honest person in Hawaii who can still rise above the petty politics that now dominate the culture and society of Hawaii. Even a non-lawyer would be preferable to crooked lawyers, and those with impaired judgment.  (Oct 18, 2008 | post #1)

In the end, UH students praise Obama's performance - News

It's becoming clearer each day, that Obama is a total fabrication by the eastern media establishment along with the party machines to convince the American public that he is a legitimately qualified candidate ready to deal with the high pressure atmosphere of DC. McCain was very cool and in command of the discusion while Obama looked like a guy deprived too long of his cigarettes and all he could think about was when he could get his next fix. He looked strangely lost last night sitting next to McCain, and seemed to be limited only to the talking points we've heard over and over again -- while McCain seemed to have unlimited new material. The same goes with the quotes from the Obama supporters -- all merely repeating the talking points put out by the eastern establishment writer of the day. And then their ultimate resort and defense is to point out that some bogus poll found Obama the clear "winner" -- which is not evident to those who think and see for themselves.  (Oct 16, 2008 | post #4)
